Located in the genius loci of Moscow, Zaryadye Park serves as a new city icon. It links the past with the present and the future by bringing the site’s historical layers to the surface with terraced gardens. These terraced gardens also function as a natural water purification system that brings clean water to the Blue Circle pond, which is the focal point of the site. Beside the Blue Circle is the winter garden that holds year-round amenities under its ETFE roof supported by a cloud of columns with climbing vegetation. Behind the winter garden is a historic wall that is connected to the new boardwalk which weaves through the birch forest, allowing tourists and locals to reconnect with nature.

SUSPENDED IN THE TREES
Published in 325 Magazine & Presented at Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Conference 2014Suspended in the Trees is a zip line bridge located in Treetop Eco-Adventure Park in Oshawa, Ontario. At Treetop Eco-Adventure Park, zip liners are suspended along a network of zip lines that span from tree to tree. The design of this bridge is based on these zip lines, borrowing the principles of span, suspend, and network.

OFFICE2020
The office of the future will be located in an urban environment and have a strong connection to “home”-like, relaxing environments for workers to unwind during their time at work. It will also encourage collaboration between different disciplines within the workplace, and contain a variety of work spaces for different concentrated activities.

The office of the future stresses a work-life balance. This suggests that office workers live in close proximity to their workplace, which is easily accessible by transportation systems like the TTC. Toronto is the perfect location for the office of the future because the majority of the population is working age, and many residents currently go to work within the City of Toronto. Transportation systems are easily accessible, given the TTC, Go Transit, Bixi, and road network. A work-life balance also suggests that the office of the future respects the need for living conditions within the workplace.

Skylights on the ground level allow light to penetrate down to the P.A.T.H. level to provide natural lighting to the food court area, while creating a visual connection from the ground level to the P.A.T.H. level. They also generate an exciting line of movement towards the main entrance, as one meanders around the skylights from Temperance Street.
The journey from the ground level to the P.A.T.H. level is one of anticipation by a grand ramp that contains triangular apertures. These apertures allow the visitor to observe the atrium space on the P.A.T.H. level while descending from the ground level.

BLOOMIERE
Smart Cities: Interaction Design Exhibit Feature InstallationBloomiere redefines the ceiling and adds another dimension to it. Activated by people during the day and at night, Bloomiere opens and closes based on people’s movement underneath. At night, Bloomiere responds to low light levels by illuminating a variety of colors.

When someone walks underneath Bloomiere during the day, it opens up to provide shading for the user. When the user walks away, Bloomiere retreats back to its original position.
When someone walks underneath Bloomiere at night, not only does it open up, but it also increases the speed of the light color changes. This produces an exciting and stimulating environment for the user and observers nearby.

Various ink on paper sketches explore the relationship between the durability and sustainability of vernacular Chinese architecture. These sketches help draw conclusions that should be applied to architectural design today through proper use of building materials and form.
