Thirty years ago I was fresh out of college working three jobs while trying to figure out how to make a life in the arts. One of those jobs was as the part time administrative assistant for a brand new organization called StageSource. I’d gotten to know the executive director, Dona Sommers, when I was working at the Next Move Theatre -- we both had offices on the sixth floor of the building. During my time I filed headshots, got the hotline ready to be recorded by the teams of volunteers, and did some basic database entry. I also took notes at board meetings, listening to Jack Welch, Judy Braha, Richard Freeman, Michael Maso and others discuss the growth of the organization, and dream about what it could do.
How lucky am I to be the executive director of this extraordinary organization thirty years later, planning a party to celebrate? But that isn’t the only planning we’re doing. We’re scheduling workshops and classes for professional development, securing venues for the Job Fair and Auditions, brainstorming next year’s conference, and rolling out the New England Gold Club. So much to do, and to celebrate, in this theater community. I look forward to seeing you at the Greater Boston Theatre Expo on September 20, The Party on September 27, and at the theater or in the office throughout the year. Here’s to the next 30 years of StageSource being Your Theater Connection!

Only one week after the Greater Boston Theatre Expo, we’ll be hosting our 30th Anniversary Celebration on September 27, 2016 7pm at OBERON. We’ll be celebrating our founding members, enjoying performances from community members, and dancing. There will be a lot of dancing. If you’ve loved being a part of StageSource for the last 30 years (or even just the last few months) we want you to be there. Visit www.stagesource.org/30Party for more information on tickets and how to put an ad in our program!
And finally, this fall, Basic Training is back and better than ever. Basic Training is a series of workshops created for the “accidental administrator”- the artist who fell into the administrative aspects of running a business. In Basic Training we’ll cover, Budgeting, Basic Legal Advice, Marketing & Social Media, and Development & Fundraising. We’ll help you make sense of what to do to build a successful “administrative core” through our Basic Training. Dates are 10/24, 11/7, 11/21, 12/5 more information is available at www.stagesource.org/BasicTraining
We hope you’ll take the opportunity to celebrate with us at any of our fall events (but preferably all of them!) We’re happy to speak to you over the phone about any of our programs or events at 617.350.7611. As always, we look forward to seeing you at the theater!
Julie, Emma, Adele and Ari The StageSource Staff
StageSource has been serving the Greater Boston and New England Theater Community for 30 years. This year, to celebrate, we held 20 StageSource Nights, our rolling anniversary party, at various different theater companies. Now we’re looking forward to celebrate the next 30 years with you through a number of different programs.
This fall, we’ll introduce to you the New England Gold Club (in partnership with TheaterMania). The Gold Club is a discrete comp service allowing theater lovers and ambassadors to see great theater throughout Greater Boston and New England. This program will allow theater lovers to see tons of theater per year and take on the role of ambassador for the theater community. We will be giving out more information about this program at the Greater Boston Theatre Expo and will be available soon on our website. We recently hired two part-time staff to oversee the program, Adele Traub and Ariel Shvartsman and you’ll be hearing more from them soon.
In addition to the Gold Club, we’re proud to present the Fourth Annual Greater Boston Theatre Expo on September 20, 2016 from 5pm-8pm at the Cyclorama at the BCA. The GBTE is a chance for you to see what’s coming up in Boston theater and meet other theater lovers. In its 4th year now, the GBTE welcomes over 60 theater companies to the Cyclorama in an expo style event to introduce you to their next
