Mayor Broderick Congratulates AAMP Graduates

The Anderson Advanced Manufacturing Program (AAMP) celebrated its first graduating class this month. AAMP provides training to equip unemployed and underemployed citizens with the skills needed to join the in-demand manufacturing field. Eighteen students were recognized for their successful completion of the program and awarded certificates of completion. Manufacturing partners NTN, NTK, Sirmax and Red Gold were on hand with the anticipation to make offers to our graduating students.

Mayor Broderick addressed the crowd and praised the efforts of the students and recognized the partners who collaborated with the city to bring about this job readiness program that gives our citizens who are either unemployed or underemployed an opportunity to acquire a new job in advanced manufacturing. Mayor Broderick explained, “The city began last year in developing the program, invested $120,000 to launch the program and reached out to community members to form a partnership to make a

meaningful program geared toward providing a successful path to real job opportunities for participating students.”

Purdue Polytechnic in Anderson worked with the city in creating the AAMP curriculum with coordination from our manufacturing partner. AAMP is a 160-hour course over a four-week period and is a paid position of $1,600 for the entire program.

To participate in the next AAMP as a company or a candidate, contact Marc Slayton, Economic Development, City of Anderson – (765) 648-6097 [email protected]

Mayor Broderick and the City of Anderson, through their community Development Department, partnered with D26 and Anderson Community Schools to fund a project that funds a project that taught skilled trades in construction to our students. The students also learned how to write resumes, along with interviewing techniques. This educational opportunity is geared to lead to internships for future careers.

Major improvements have been made to 12 parks in Anderson in the past three years. At the end of April, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park renovation was completed. The statue was cleaned and waxed, new LED lights, trash cans and benches were installed. Additionally, grass and flowers were planted, trees were trimmed and bricks were replaced. The 12 parks that have seen major renovations are Belmont, Walnut, Horne, Geater, Shadyside, Edgewater, Pulaski, MLK, Jackson, Fairview, Streaty and Dickmann town Center. Additional renovations are coming to Dickmann Town Center, Streaty Park, Harmon Park, Shadyside Park and to our trail system beginning this month.
