Norrbotten is facing a demographic challenge.
The average age in the county is now significantly higher than the national average and more people are expected to retire in the next ten years.
An aging and simultaneously shrinking population poses major challenges in society and the labor market.
Norrbotten will miss labor!
Employment Service's projections of population figures in Norrbotten shows that if you compare the number of who can retire at age 65 with the 19-year-olds that can enter the labor market, we will have 19,000 (!) people missing by the year of 2025.
In seven of Norrbottens fourteen communes the newly added 19-year-olds will not even be enough to fill the needs of the public sector.
We need the elderly!
The elderly are a large and important resource in the regions labor market.
All human resources will be needed – for example people in the age of 60-65 who wants to work longer, perhaps on their own terms.
We need to find new models and test new methods for managing generational change in Norrbotten.

Sunderby Folkhögskola has initiated a project in 2013 for men and women over 60 years. Both retired and professionals involved in the project.
