Who can marry? [a scriptural right] Who cannot marry? [no scriptural right] What are “sexual immorality” and “adultery”? Does “not under bondage” mean “free to marry”?

• “Mental Divorce”, “Post-civil-divorce putting away” Can the “innocent party” remarry if “guilty” does?

• Some argue that non-Christians who get divorced and remarried for just any reason do not commit adultery because they do not know the law of Christ, and thus are not accountable to it


− Is Marriage Law Universal or “For Believers Only”?

› “Problem” situations where this might occur:- 2 non-Christians divorced and remarried, now want to serve God- Christian marries non-Christian, discovers was divorced before- 2 Christians marry; but one (both?) divorced before conversion


• Therefore, we are told that it is only AFTER becoming a Christian that Christ’s marriage laws apply

› When? Before they were washed, sanctified, justified: i.e. before they were Christians

− The “sexually immoral” and “adulterers” in 1 Cor 5-6

› These were accountable for their sins of fornication and adultery before Christ: in fact, it’s why they needed Him!
