    CERTIFIED NURSE’S AIDE TRAINING PROGRAMThe CNATP is a 100-hour course (50 hours classroom and 50 hours of clinical). It is designed to prepare indi-viduals with needed entry-level skills to become certified nurse aides. Graduates from this program will be eligible to sit for the State Registry exam.

    The program will be offered in 2020. The session lasts approximately eight weeks.

    Winter orientation will be on: Wednesday, January 22, 2020, 6:00 p.m. at Enfield Municipal Annex, Rm D204.Winter classes begin: Monday, February 3, 2020. Classes will generally meet two evenings a week from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Clinical hours vary and include some evening hours and some Saturday hours. Syllabus provided at orientation, will list exact class/clinical hours. Classes are held at Enfield Municipal Annex, 124 North Maple St. Clinical locations are Evergreen Health Care, on the campus of Johnson Memorial Hospital, and Parkway Pavilion.

    In order for a student to be awarded an Enfield Adult High School diploma, they must earn a total of 21 credits (broken down below) and 2 of these credits must have been earned in Adult Education. Enfield Adult Education accepts transfer credits from accredited schools. In addition to the traditional classroom setting, students can earn credits through on-line classes, learning labs, documented experience in the military, community service and other non-traditional learning experiences.

This exciting high school diploma program provides the mature candidate with the opportunity to demonstrate skills in reading, writing, math and problem solving competencies in a job/life skills setting. Depending on your skill level at enrollment, the program may take six to twelve months to complete requirements. The program is self-paced, flexible, and confidential. The program is web-based and can be completed online at home or school. Computer assistance is available. Students meet one-on-one with a NEDP trained advisor/assessor in all phases of the program.

    General Education Development (GED®)

    The GED® is a state and internationally recognized high school equivalency diploma for Connecticut adults. Enfield offers many opportunities for students to gain the skills necessary to pass the GED® test. Day and evening class-es are available, as well as day and evening learning labs. The class schedule is available on page 15.

    GED testing will be given in Enfield days, evenings and Saturdays. Prior to registering for the exam, students should complete practice tests in all four subject areas. The cost of each practice test is $6. This fee will be waived to students who are enrolled in Enfield Adult Education GED program. Connecticut Statute requires all students to meet with an Adult Education counselor prior to registering their GED® exam. To register for the test, go to www.GED.com.

    There are three different diploma options in Enfield Adult Education. You must be a Connecticut resident, 17 years of age and officially withdrawn from school to enroll in any program.     goals, strengths and weaknesses. The O’Net Computer sys-tem will be used to evaluate possible careers for exploration.

    Thursday, January 23, 2020Week 2: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Further career exploration and discussion will center around

    job outlook and training required for entry into careers. Popular job sites will be studied and reviewed. Companies will be analyzed for their mission and employee benefits. The concept of paying it forward through philanthropy will be analyzed.

    be presented. The admissions process and financial aid will be covered.

    Thursday, February 6, 2020Week 4: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The manufacturing program and opportunities at Asnuntuck

    will be reviewed. How careers are portrayed in the media, books, movies and advertising will be discussed.

    Thursday, February 13, 2020Week 5: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Job interviewing will be studied. Students will

    have an opportunity to be an interviewer and interviewee.

    Thursday, February 20, 2020Week 6: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Students will learn how to write a resume and

    will complete their resume and a letter of introduction. Marketing techniques will be analyzed and students will apply these to their own job search.

    Thursday, February 27, 2020Week 7: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The terminology of the world of work, benefits,

    job applications and further career work will continue.

    Thursday, March 5, 2020Week 8: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Students will present to the class their final

    resumes and letters of introduction for review. Articles related to the class topics will be shared. Final meetings will be held between the students and the facilitator.

    Thursday, March 12, 2020Week 9: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Students will discuss and role play various real life work

    place situations. Students will have the opportunity to explore possible resolutions to these issues. Asking for a raise, discussing benefits, concerns and negotiating with a supervisor will be presented.

    Thursday, March 19, 2020Week 10: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Students will visit the American Job Center to become

    familiar with the services offered. Students will also have the opportunity to take the Accuplacer placement exam. The procedures required to apply to college will also be reviewed. Final, individual meetings will take place with the instructor.

    4. Free 3 Credit Asnuntuck Community College Course • For qualified Adult Education Students • Free Course: CSA 105: Introduction to Software Application, offered 2020 Spring at Asnuntuck C.C. • Referral by teacher/counselor is required

    This is a one credit course offered for two hour sessions over eight weeks. The class is held in a computer lab at Asnuntuck. Attending all of the sessions and completing all of the assignments earns the student one full credit. Completing fewer assignments and attending fewer sessions will result in a lower amount of credit. The purpose of the course is to facilitate transition from where the student is now and where they would like to be. At any time, the students can request an individual session with the facilitator to discuss their transition. Grading will be done on in class and homework assignments. Writing prompts will be part of each class.

    The Family Resource Center (FRC) is a school-based, family sup-port program located in the Stowe Early Learning Center, 117 Post Office Road and Henry Barnard, School, 27 Shaker Road. The FRC helps strengthen the partnership between school, families and the community through a range of services and programs. Some of the programs offered by the FRC include parent and child Learning through Play groups for children ages birth to five; developmental screenings; parenting workshops; support groups for grandparents raising grandchildren, educational home visits for parents of children

    ages prenatal-five; resources on other community programs; support for home day care providers; and adult educa-tion/family literacy collaborations.
