Ancillary texts in actionAfter creating an designing my ancillary texts, I’ve decided to take it a step further and actually put them into to action to see whether they work sucsessfully.I’m going to gather different methods of advertsiment, some I researched earlier on, on my blog and input my digipak/magazine advert and see how they would look in action.I’ve chosen all types of different media across the board. As a modern day society who consumes media constantly, I thought it would be beneficial to gather as many social music platforms as possible that are widely used, and see how my product works on them.I’ve chosen the most popular platforms of social media to advertise my products on, the ones where its globally accessible for everyone worldwide. And the platforms that allows Web 2.0 to generate feedback and excitement for when its relaesed,as this will allow demand to be created, while at the same time creating a fan base. I've chosen:Street/Bus Stop Billboards;Bus Adverts;Global Billboards;Phone Apps;Instagram;HMV Store;Itunes;Spotify;Twitter and Youtube. Not only will this allow me to see whether they work and are conventional, it will allow me to see how other adverts would be put out, and give me an opportunity to asses whether the product itself is worthy and successful of being released.

Itunes Library

Itunes is one of the biggest platforms for music online. It stores, orangises, allows you downloads new music/pre order them in efficient way. Because of this, it's a very successful platform for music and is used by millions worldwide. Having this is mind, it gave me the idea to almost want to test out my product on their platform. It’s such a big social media platform, I've decided to advertise my digipak within it to show advertising of my product. As you can see, my digipak is circled in red, alongside all the other existing albums. I waned to see how it would look against existing products, as if it were actually to be released on Itunes itself. I really like the way it looks, I feel it instantly stands out from the rest. The bold colours and wacky pattern allow it to be seen instantly. I asked a friend to look as a second opinion and get her to tell

me which cover jumps out the most. She said mine, and she has never seen any of m products before, so this was really reassuring.Itunes was my main priority of testing my ancillary texts in action, purposely based on its global usuage.I could upload Lola next week if I wanted to and it would be accessible worldwide if it was searched, the same a celebrity artist could be. And I really liked the idea of that. Having it visually in the Itunes library was also a good opportunity for me to base my

Own criticism on it once more. As a user of Itunes myself, I wanted to look at it as if I was browsing for my music personally. And see if it grabbed my attention, which it did. The thing I liked about it most was the way it was unique to the rest of them. When looking at the other products on there they’re all quite plain or ae of full frontal shots, or some abstract idea. Where as mine shows a snapshot of the artist, leaving the album to look almost quite mysterious and intriguing. This was my plan, as I want it to draw people in visually while still being quite ambigious, and feel I achieved this.

Phone Library

My next point of action was to see how my album cover looked on personal phone library's as many people consume music from their phone and are always flicking through songs and changing them over. Having a phone myself I'm always looking through deciding what song to put on. And usually I'm draw n depending on the content of the song and how it looks. As you can see here I’ve embedded my digipak alongside others within a phone library. Against all the other front cover, I feel mine has the design that stands out most.

I wanted this to be the case in the sense if someone was playing a song or flicking through their phone library with friends, I’d want them to choose ‘Lola’ or aim for them to ask what its about due to them being so intriguing-and I feel I've achieved this. As a working product I deem it successful comparing it to the rest of the albums featured within the image. I'm really happy with how it’d look in a phone library, although the icons are small I really feel the reason why ‘Lola’ works is because of its design and the fact that although small, you can still see everything you need, which some of the other don’t allow you to do.

HMV Music Store

Here below is my digipak in action within an actual worldwide branch that is HMV.I wanted to visually place my ancillary text here because, this is the place where it would be first hand bought and where consumers would be able to pick it up, while its surrounded by many other albums. As a new artist I wanted my album to work mostly on its eye capturing capabilities to draw consumers in, here espically. This because most customers are often inclined to stay safe with artists in the charts that they have heard of before and pick there album up and go. While this still being the case I would want my album to be placed quite central and within the stacks. This isBecause I would want my ancillarytexts to have the best chance to stand out. As a physical product withIn stores packaging can be a very bigselling point and I tried to keep thisIs mind when creating them. LookingAt it in action now alongside the other albums I think it works wellIn standing out and gives good competition against leading artistsAlbums who are next to, which is really pleasing.

Twitter

Here I’ve created a twitter account for my artist to promote and advertise the upcoming album, I've created an account using the actual digipak image as the icon and tweeted a promotional tweet out to get the release date out for when its coming out generating feedback and a fan base prior to the release in the hope of generating a better selling outcome for when it is released. I created a little tag ‘#LOLaettes’ a popular way of generating fans quickly, a technique I’ve seen lots of artists do. It gives their fan base a name and makes them feel worthy, almost creating a little army of fans, very beneficial to the success of an artist, so I thought by creating a hashtag it would be a really good idea.

Bus Adverts and Large Billboards

I decided to make a little extra promotional banner that may appear on the side of buses, it continues the theme of my ancillary texts just in a manipulated way. I really like the way it looks, the simplicity and large bold use o the lips is intriguing and lets you know the album name and the release date leaving the rest up to the consumer to delve deeper and go and look for the album itself.

This is an example of my magazine advert in use on billboards in a different country. I wanted to see how it worked against global adverts and see if it was still a good advert.I’m really happy with how it looks from far away and how the main feature image stands out even from a distance. The simplistic colours contrasted against the bright pink work really well and allow my ancillary texts to function in a professional way.

Bus Stop Bill Boards

Here is my magazine advert for the release of my album posted at a bus stop billboard. I decided to test my ancillary texts here as it’s a place of advertisement that is seen very frequently, whether you have access to social media or not. Also, its an opportunity for my advert to stand alone without any competition near it.Giving me the opportunity to see how it looks, and whether id stop at read it.My contrasting colour scheme gives it that eye capturing vibe and the simplistic design leaves you wanting more. Something I really wanted to achieve. I'm really happy with the successfulness of the advert.
