The 2012 Conference will cover Egypt,
Greece and Rome, and China, with direct
reference to topics covered in the New
South Wales HSC Ancient History and
Extension History syllabus. The format will
differ from previous conferences in that
there will be no parallel sessions for lectures.
Concurrently with each lecture there will be
a choice of two workshops.
Dr Gae Callender will speak on Hatshepsut.
Assoc. Prof. Paul McKechnie will examine
how the Spartans achieved social cohesion.
Relations between Spartans, perioikoi and
helots will be covered.
Dr Chris Forbes, well known for his expertise
on Alexander the Great, will speak on
Alexander in the context of his time.
Emeritus Professor Edwin Judge will
present his latest evaluation of Augustus.
For Extension History, Dr Ian Plant and DrPeter Keegan will share a session exploring
the approaches of Thucydides and Tacitus to
the writing of history.
Dr Gunner Mikkelsen, our expert on Ancient
China, will speak on the Qin and Han
Dynasties.
The programme concludes with a review
and panel discussion on the National
History Curriculum to be introduced in
2013. This session will include a
presentation by Ronika Power on an aspect
ofMuseum and Heritage Issues.
Our perennially popular Teachers
Workshops, dealing with the practicalities of
the classroom, are again a feature of this
conference. Proposed topics are:

Herculaneum
Registration will take place in the foyer of
building X5B from 8.00 am. Please arrive
well before the first session at 9.00 am to
register. Coffee is available for purchase at
the Coffee Cart nearby.
The cost of the conference is $150.00 incl.
GST; full time students $55.00 incl. GST
