The story is made up of two parts.

The first part is about Turtle dropping in at Anansi’s house. Turtle wanted to have dinner at Anansi’s house. The second part is about Anansi going to Turtle’s house. Anansi was invited to dinner at Turtle’s house.

Anansi’s house was situated on a hill. The weather was very hot. Turtle reached Anansi’s house feeling hot, tired and hungry. At that time, Anansi was setting his dinner table. He had prepared a delicious yam dish. Anansi did not want to share it with anybody. He was not happy to see Turtle. Turtle knocked on Anansi’s door several times. Anansi did not want to invite Turtle into his house. Finally,Turtle said he had come for dinner. Anansi had to invite Turtle in. It was Anansi’s culture to do so. At the dinner table, Anansi found ways to stop Turtle from eating the yam. Many times, Anansi made Turtle wash his hands. Quickly, Anansi ate all the yam. Turtle did not eat the yam at all. He was dissappointed. He thanked Anansi before going home. Turtle was polite.

Three days later, Turtle invited Anansi to dinner. Anansi started his journey to Turtle’s house. It was early morning. Turtle’s house was by a river. Anansi arrived at Turtle’s house. He was hot, tired and hungry. At that time,Turtle was sunning himself on a rock. He greeted Anansi. Then,Turtle dived into the river. He wanted to prepare the dinner table. Meanwhile, Anansi sat under a shady palm leaf. On the dinner table were crayfish, clams, sardines, scallop, etc. Anansi dived into the river for dinner. Each time Anansi dived, he floated. Finally, Anansi put stones in the pockets of his jacket. This made him sink. Anansi sat on a chair for dinner. Turtle told Anansi about his culture. In Turtle’s culture, Anansi had to take off his jacket for dinner. Anansi then took off his jacket. He floated to the surface. Turtle ate the fabulous dinner alone.
