Each Panreac standard is carefully prepared and controlled under an ISO 9001:2008 quality
assurance system. Our Quality Control Department uses the most up-to-date equipment and
instrumental techniques, including fluorescence spectroscopy, AAS-GF, ICP-OES, UV-VIS and IR;
gas chromatography with FID, ECD, NPD, GC-MS and head space detectors; HPLC, automatic
titrators and other standard laboratory instruments.
All our standards come with their corresponding certificate of analysis, which contains, amongst
other data, information such as the code, batch number, date of manufacture, minimum expiry
date, the real value compared to the guaranteed value and its uncertainty.
The following pages contain detailed information for all our standards and some
auxiliary analytical reagents offered by Panreac Química. If you cannot find the
standard you need, do not hesitate to contact us.

The development and spectacular growth experienced by modern instrumental techniques such as ICP-OES and
ICP-MS, especially for environmental analysis, means that
high-performance calibration standards are required.
Panreac’s range of ICP element standards meets the very
highest purity and quality requirements demanded by these
highly sensitive techniques.
The range of ICP element standards consists of 72
elements in concentrations ranging from 1.000
to 10.000 g/L.
The concentration of each element is strictly controlled to
an accuracy of ±0.2% of the true value, with NIST traceability.
Traces of 69 elements are analysed by ICP and the result is specified
on the certificate of analysis.
Preparation is carried out using raw materials of the highest available purity: 99.999% for metals as well as
ultra-pure water and acids. ICP standards are available in pre-washed 100-mL PE bottles, all of which are supplied
with their corresponding detailed certificate of analysis. This certificate includes the composition of the standard, its
date of manufacture, minimum expiry date, the actual value with respect to guaranteed value, traceability and the
concentration of trace impurities.

We offer a full range of reagents to cover all atomic absorption spectroscopy needs.
PA products with a low Hg content are specifically recommended for assaying mercury by atomic absorption using the
cold vapour method. This range also includes the most common acids (Hg content < 0.05 ppm (mg/L)) and salts such as
sodium borohydride.
The ANALPUR range of acids, with low trace metal content, is suitable for the analysis of heavy metals such as Pb, Sn, Cr,
etc. or elements such as As, Zn, Cd, etc.
We also supply ionisation buffers for atomic absorption for use as ionisation suppressers and phosphate-, lanthanum-
and magnesium-based matrix modifiers to minimise chemical interference resulting from the presence of aluminium,
silicon or phosphorus.
We recommend that AAS standard solutions be prepared with our PA-ACS quality water, which guarantees trace metal
concentrations of less than 0.01 ppm in most cases.
Request further information regarding our PA
low-mercury range and the ANALPUR range of
low trace metal acids.

pH measurement is critical to any analytical laboratory, therefore the equipment used for this
purpose must be checked and adjusted regularly.
Panreac offers a wide range of NIST SRM-traceable pH buffer
solutions for the calibration of pH meters. This range of buffers
includes both concentrated buffer solutions, which we refer to as STc
and ready-to-use solutions referred to as ST. All these solutions are
very stable and can be stored for long time periods (up to 6 years).
An accuracy of ±0.02 pH units, at a temperature of 20°C, is
guaranteed in most cases.
The label on each container indicates its composition, batch number,
expiry date and pH variation with temperature for better control of
quality management.
All sales units of these solutions
come with their corresponding
certificate of analysis.
If you cannot find the buffer solution
that you need, we can manufacture
it for you. Please do not
hesitate to contact us.

We supply the different reagents needed to maintain the electrodes in optimum condition.
Electrode regenerating solutions, which allow certain anomalies, such as slow response, high asymmetry
potential or low sensitivity, to be resolved.
Protein Cleaning Solution: recommended for regenerating electrodes commonly used to measure
samples with a high protein content (milk, cheese, meat, blood, sera, etc.).
Electrolyte solutions for refilling the reference electrolyte when necessary. We supply three electrolyte solutions,
which we supply in both the standard 250-mL packaging and a special presentation consisting of a 100-mL bottle
with a spout to simplify the refilling of the electrode through the opening.

Iron and aluminium interfere with the detection of fluoride by ISEs. Depending on the pH at which the
measurement should be performed and the iron and/or aluminium concentration present in the sample, the use
of solutions that mask the interfering elements and buffer the pH to the required value may be needed.
Panreac Química supplies a wide range of Total Ionic Strength Adjustment Buffer (TISAB) solutions that help to
simplify these analyses.

UV/VIS spectrophotometers must be checked periodically to
ensure their correct functioning, thereby guaranteeing the
reliability of their results. The European Pharmacopoeia
recommends certain solutions for the control of UV/VIS
equipment that can be used to detect possible deviations arising
from electrical, mechanical or optical problems.
The parameters to be checked in UV/VIS spectroscopy according to the European Pharmacopoeia
are as follows:
Absorbance
Accuracy of the wavelength
Stray light limit
Spectral resolution
Panreac Química supplies four liquid standards that allow these parameters to be verified with
the following advantages:

Titration is one of the most common techniques used in analytical laboratories.
To check the factor of the solutions titrated, Panreac Química supplies Primary
Chemical Species (EQP) standards, highly chemically pure substances with a purity of 100 ±
0.05% after drying. We supply a total of 15 EQP standards, each available in boxes of 10
hermetically sealed glass tubes containing 1.5 g of the ready-to-use product as well as in
100-g glass bottles. As using the 100-g bottles exposes the product to air each time the bottle is
opened, we also provide suitable methods for drying the product. Each standard comes
with its corresponding certificate of analysis indicating its purity and tolerance, the method used
to determine this value, the NIST reference standard and the expiry date.
In the following table you will find information about the available EQP standards
and the suitable method for drying the product if necessary.
We supply a wide range of ready-to-use titrated solutions and a very wide range of
indicators. Do not hesitate to contact us.

Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a parameter used to measure the degree of water
pollution. It is the amount of oxygen (expressed in mg/L) consumed during the
oxidation of organic material present in the (natural or waste) water.
The procedure is based on oxidation of this material using potassium
dichromate as a strong oxidising agent in the presence of sulphuric acid
and silver and/or mercury ions as a catalyst.
Panreac Química supplies six potassium hydrogen phthalate standards
of different concentrations that allow the analyst to choose the most
appropriate depending on the COD concentration present in the samples.
All these standards are packaged in 25-mL glass bottles and come with their
corresponding certificate of analysis which indicates their NIST traceability.

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is the amount of carbon linked to an organic
compound and is frequently used as a non-specific indicator of water
quality or the level of cleanliness of medical manufacturing equipment.
It is measured by the amount of carbon dioxide liberated on oxidising
the organic material under special conditions.
A distinction must be made between Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC), such
as carbonates, bicarbonates and dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2), and TOC,
which arises from the decomposition of plants, bacterial growth and
the metabolic activity of living organisms or chemical compounds.
Panreac Química supplies five TOC and five TIC standards for verifying analytical equipment. All these
standards are NIST traceable and come with their own certificate of analysis.

Turbidity is the lack of transparency of a liquid due to the presence
of suspended particles. Turbidity is considered a good measure of
water quality; the higher the turbidity the lower its quality.
A liquid can be considered transparent if its turbidity does not
exceed 3 NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units).
Panreac Química supplies a turbidity standard, Solution A and
Solution B. Its composition corresponds to that described in
Pharmacopeias (Ph.Eur., BP) and international regulations (Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and
Wastewater, ASTM for Water and Environmental Technology).
With these solutions can be prepared the 4000 NTU Primary Turbidity Suspension and from it by dilution achieved
diferent degrees of turbidity.
To obtain the 4000 NTU suspension, mix 5 ml of Turbidity Standard solution A with 5 ml of Turbidity Standard
solution B and allow to stand for 24 hours at 25°C. The required standard solutions can be prepared from this
standard by dillution with water. Shake the standard suspension before use. This suspension is stable for 2 months
when stored in a glass bottle.

determination of the colour degree of liquids in the range of
brown-yellow-red colour.
Colour Standard Pt-Co according to APHA for the
determination of the colour intensity of liquids in the range from
pale yellow to reddish yellow.
Primary solutions established in Pharmacopoeias
Pharmacopoeias use these primary colour standards to provide the appropriate colour tone
for comparison with the substance described in the monograph upon mixing in the correct proportions.
Panreac Química offers three primary-colour solutions established by Pharmacopoeias (Ph. Eur, BP, USP
and Food Chemicals Codex).
We supply 10 g/L hydrochloric acid for the preparation of secondary solutions from the primary ones.

APHA Pt-Co colour standard
The colour intensity of liquids can be estimated quickly using a platinum-cobalt standard according to ASTM D1209
(ASTM, 2000). Colour samples other than pale yellow or reddish yellow cannot be evaluated using this standard (in
these cases the colour standards according to Pharmacopoeia are recommended).
Panreac Química supplies the American Public Health Association (APHA) Pt-Co 500 colour standard, which contains
500 mg/L of platinum. Lower concentration colour standards can be prepared from this standard by
dilution with water.
The absorbance values of this APHA 500 standard are controlled and specified on the certificate.

Must, or grape juice, contains variable amounts of
sugars. During alcoholic fermentation, these sugars
are converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide,
producing wine. The higher the sugar concentration
in the must, the higher the alcohol content in the
resulting wine.
The maturity index (sugar/total acidity) is used to choose the
correct moment for grape harvesting, therefore the maturity status of
the grape needs to be monitored regularly by refractometry.
Refractometry is an indirect method of determining the sugar concentration of the must by measuring its refractive
index. Panreac Química supplies sucrose standards for calibration and verification of refractometers used to
determine sugar content.
Each unit comes with its own certificate, which shows the actual value obtained from measuring 15 samples
thermostatted at 20.0 ± 0.1 °C with a refractometer. The tolerance limits are set to give a confidence interval of
95%. The specified value is guaranteed for two years from the date of issue of the certificate.

Standard for Oenology
(Methanol and higher alcohols)
The acquired alcohol content (ABV) is a very important assay in wine
analysis as wines are valued in commercial transactions on the
basis of this value.
By definition, the acquired alcohol content is the number of
litres of ethanol and its homologues (methanol, higher alcohols,
2,3-butanediol, etc.) contained in 100 L of wine, both volumes
being measured at a temperature of 20 °C.
Panreac supplies two standards:
Oenology standard (Methanol and Higher Alcohols) for methanol and higher alcohol determinations by
gas chromatography.
Hydroalcoholic solutions with different concentrations for the calibration of alcohol meters and
densitometers used to determine alcohol content.
The Oenology standard is packaged in boxes of 20 single-use heat-sealed glass ampoules. Each box comes with its
corresponding certificate of analysis, indicating the chromatography conditions used and including the
corresponding chromatogram. The value specified on the certificate is guaranteed for two years from
its date of issue.
The hydroalcoholic solutions are packaged in 250-mL glass containers. Each bottle comes with its corresponding
certificate of analysis. The value specified on the certificate is guaranteed for five years from its date of issue.
