Close ups are used to show the characters facial expressions, moments of fear. Lighting At points where they are in the main location, an large dirty bathroom, bright lighting is used Other moments red lighting is used to connote danger, the audience knows something bad is going t happen which it does Also a lot of dim lighting is used to focus on the character and what there doing. Costume The main characters in the brightly lit bathroom where blues and whites to show that they are the victims and to feel sympathy for them. The killer wears a long black coat with a red lining this makes his identity anonymous, in horrors you don’t find out killers till the end of the movie. Another man who is holding hostage some victims is dressed in all black suggesting he’s a bad character. Locations Most locations in the film are claustrophobic. For example the bathroom which the two victims are chained to doesn’t have any windows or visible doors. They are also unable to move which adds to the claustrophobia. Another example is in the hallway, in a chase scene, it isn’t that big and lots of objects are along the sides making it seem narrower. All the locations, apart from one of the victim’s homes, are dirty and grotty. Editing There is a quick cutting rhythm at moments where there is action. For example when chasing the killer the speed of the cuts increases along with the music to build up tension and suspense. Mise-en-scene All the places shown in the film are dirty, even when they show outside in the streets it’s surrounded by old broken down warehouses. One of the victims house is decorated with a lot of different shades of red, a colour that connotes danger and blood. Sound The audience mostly hears silence or heavy breathing. During dialogue there is no background music. For the voice of the killer a very husky creepy voice is used which is do spook the audience. At moments of action load heavy metal music is played.
