    Survey Report

    Survey Method

Originally, we planned to rely heavily on the results of the electronic survey

conducted through social media; however, we had very few responses, as there was not

enough time for the survey to circulate. Instead we switched to a focus on the paper

survey that we conducted and it gave us fairly clear results. The way the survey was

designed was to not only have people rate their perceived price level (On a scale of 1 to

10, 10 being highest) of each proposed name but we also asked respondents to choose

which name best fit the theme of Upscale Tropical (or Upscale Caribbean as another

point of reference). We included the name of the existing bar Tropix Island Tiki Bar so

we could compare its results to the proposed names and choose the one that received a

higher average rating than Tropix and had the most people choose it as fitting the theme.

We also planned to group the survey participants by age but the majority of respondents

were in the 21 25 and 26 35 age ranges, which together represent the main target

market for the bar and results were virtually identical across both groups so we focused

on analyzing the results as a whole.

    Survey Results

The survey we conducted appears to have had a clear victor as the best name for

the new bar. Interestingly, Tropix Island Tiki Bar scored quite highly in the survey with

only five of the proposed names earning a perceived price level higher than Tropix. The

mean score for the top five names is as follows: Blu 7.8, Fyre 6.8, Sol 6.68, Bluefins 6.40

and Rum Republic 6.24. Tropix was the next highest with a mean of 5.40, meaning a

perceived price level just above the average bar. Across the board most of the proposed

names had a standard deviation between 2 and 2.5, indicating a significant degree of

variation among respondents. The most consistent ratings were usually for the names that

scored on the lower end of the scale. The selection of the names that best fit the Upscale

Tropical theme was much more consistent with the majority of votes going to the top

five proposed names and Tropix. Rum Republic had the highest number of votes at

fifteen with Blu and Bluefins coming in a close second with fourteen votes each.

    Recommendation

It is our belief that each whole number is representative of a distinct price level

and that, in order to ideally meet the clients desire for a name that clearly distinguishes

the new bar from Tropix, the name chosen should be at least two price levels higher than

Tropix. Out of the five names that had an average rating higher than Tropix, the only

name to meet this requirement was Blu, which is also the name that tied for the second-

highest number of votes as best fitting the theme of Upscale Tropical. We believe Blu

is superior to the other top contenders as Fyre had relatively few votes as fitting the

Upscale Tropical theme and Sol, Bluefins, and Rum Republic all received mean scores

that were fairly close to Tropix and we had some verbal feedback from participants in the

survey that raised concerns that the names sounded more like a restaurant rather than a

bar. Therefore we recommend Blu as the best name for the new bar as it serves the

purpose of both distinguishing the new bar as being more upscale than Tropix and fits the

theme of Upscale Tropical that the client is trying to create.

Proposed Menu Given our recommendation of Blu we have put together a proposed menu that

highlights both the tropical theme and the name of the bar. Sabrina also went ahead and

designed two alternate logos as per the clients desire to see the name done with the first

letter in lowercase as well as in uppercase. The menu includes a list of fifteen cocktails

that were either recalled from memory or found through online research. Some of the

names have been altered form the cocktails traditional name to better fit with the name

Blu and the Upscale Tropical theme. We have also included the recipes for the

cocktails found online or others that were common enough to have established recipes.
