Establishing shot + Setting

The establishing shot used in this scene is used to represent fear and creepiness as it shows the place that they are going to which is an old fashioned looking mansion. The setting also adds to this effect with the trees as they are tall and have no leaves which signifies it is autumn which can be associated with Halloween. This shot shows that is also an overcast and grim day which also suggest that the mansion is creepy.

High angle + dialogue The high angle shot used in this scene is used to signify that they are

isolated and vulnerable. The effect of this shot is also linked with the dialogue used in this scene as one of the characters says “they wrote us a note.” The way he says it suggests that there is tension in the atmosphere. The tension then builds more when he reads out the note as it says that they are not to go into a specific room.

Jump cut + Long shot In this scene, jump cuts are used to connote the mysteriousness and the

distortion of the place that he is staying in. A long shot is also used to exaggerate the point that the place is unusual as he is isolated in a mansion but their seems to be no one else around.

Shot/reverse shot + eye line match + two shot

The two shot used in this scene creates a sense of mystery as it shows the two people looking at each other and they are identical. The shot/reverse shot and eye line match also add to this distorted atmosphere as they show the difference in expression on both of their faces.

Costumes + High-key lighting

The costumes used in this scene are typical of alternative rock bands and fans as they tend to wear dark clothing. However, the lighting used in this scene is unusual for an alternative rock music video of this type. Videos that are mysterious and distorted often used low-key lighting but this scene uses high-key lighting, this is due to the event going on in the video.
