In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge Forms and conventions of real media products ?

Page 3: Analyse

Front Cover

My album cover uses conventions as it is what you would usually expect from a rock/punk band, there is an advisory warning on there which is what most rock albums have on because of language, also it is conventional because it has the artist/band name and also the album name at the top of the page like most other album covers. The album cover image could be seen as unconventional because it is not a picture of the band and is just a picture of one person next to a grave stone, which also links to the title section ‘killer’. The clothing could be seen as both conventional and unconventional because he is wearing black skinny jeans which relates to the rock/indie style, but it could be unconventional because he has a grey hoodie on which could not be related to the rock scene.

Inside cover

The inside cover could be seen as unconventional because most covers usually are plain or have a simple image and no writing but this inside cover has the bands award achievements on so that there fans and public can see the achievements of the band. The image is linked to the front cover image but the person is slightly facing the left more and looking down more.

Back Cover

The back cover is very conventional because it has the trade mark images, barcode, and trade mark information and writing like most over albums, this gives it a professional effect which will make it stand out to audiences, the album track list is placed down the left hand side of the cover and numbered 1-14, this is the usually image of track listing to be located down the left hand side.

The side insert connected to the cover is plain but effective because it have just the band name and the album name, so when placed down and the edge can just be seen, you can see the artist/band name and album name.

Poster

The poster has a rock scene background and the album cover is placed over the top to promote the album, the poster includes the release date, band name and places of purchase. The album cover release date and main writing are on a white background which make them stand out to the audience on the background. Many band use promotional posters for the album or single releases so that they can promote their album/single and get sales and let people know.

Music Video

My music video is mainly shot in the dark because it is more related to the rock/punk genre that way, because if shot in the day time or with a happy mood it wouldn’t really set the mood, the video has a mixture of hand-held shots and stills, the video also has close ups on a guitar when there is a main guitar riff. The video is speeded up at parts to show the lights moving fast and for a faster direction of the camera.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary

texts?

Page 10: Analyse

• I think that my front cover, inside cover, and back cover all link together well because each one is the same colour and also use the same font, also the grave yard on the front is linked to the back because there is fog on the back which links to a grave yard, the inside cover had a similar image to the front cover, on the poster I included the album cover so that the audience will be familiar with the cover when they see the poster.

• By using macromedia fireworks its allowed me to make my covers link to each other using the same fonts, colours and themes. Macromedia fireworks allows me to make simple and effective adjustments to the images so that they blend in.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 14: Analyse

• I have learnt that the colours and fonts work well together because of the genre and that the fonts are all similar and also the colours connect with each other. Audience feedback has allowed me to make suitable changes so that it will stand out more and so that it will be more public suited.

• When I was creating my covers, at each stage of the cover I asked for feedback from a few people so that I new if anything needed to be changed or not, I also made different changes to the covers and asked which one looked better.

How did you use media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Page 16: Analyse

• Research- In my research I analysed music videos using yahoo music video to see how they use there shots and lighting, I used yahoo music video as the main site for watching music videos, also in my research I looked up many album covers, inside inserts and back covers to see how they were layed out and the style.

• Planning- In my planning, I wrote down ideas for my music video, and wrote down 5 different songs I was going to do. I analysed a few different album covers and digi-packs of the same genre and looked how they connected.

• Construction- In the start I designed a few different covers not using my own images just to see how I could lay it out and what different designs I could use, then I took my own pictures and started to design my own covers and poster around the look of the image so that the covers blended together and were all similar. I started to do some sample filming, and then started to film different types of footage using both handheld cam and also using the tripod when filming the cars. Using the Mac computer and imovie gave me the software I needed to create and edit my video using the footage I had.

• Analysis- My analysis consisted of me using PowerPoint, slide share and doing a commentary to go with the PowerPoint
