WHY I CHOSE HYDROINFORMATICS:

PREVIOUS RESEARCHES AND RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Hydroinformatics part in Delft was actually one of the things which convinced me to apply for this Master.They combine Hydrology, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering and help us not only to understandwhat is happening in the hydrological system but also to asses what may happen in future differentscenarios. It is a modern science and it can be a very useful tool for involving all stakeholders and help indecision making. Nevertheless, many other different Master programs do not focus on them, and there islack of this practical learning. IHE is completely focused on water related issues, what makes themspecialists. Besides, The Netherlands, is, of course, very well known for their flood management, and wecan learn a lot from the way they have developed and introduced Hydroinformatics.

Spain is quite diverse from the geographic point of view. Frommountainous areas to extent planes; and from rainy climate to almostdesert-like areas. Flood management in Spain requires good knowledge ofsuch different surroundings, so hydroinformatic tools are essential.Economic situation is not homogeneous either, and this is a challengewhen managing the flood risk of the country.On top of that we can find climate change. Although its effects areuncertain, it seems that temperature could increase. It is more uncertainhow precipitation may be affected (a), but hydroinformatics can help onpreparing the cities, improving resilience.

Previous researches related to Environmental Sciences

I am Ana, a 24 years old girl. Concerned about environmental and societal issues, Idecided to study Environmental Sciences as a multidisplicinary degree. Currently I amstudying Flood Risk Management Erasmus Mundus Master at the Institute for WaterEducation (IHE) in Delft. I am passionate about force of nature, and this programmeprovides me the necessary tools to work preventing and reducing its risks.I come from Vitoria-Gasteiz, a medium size city in the north of Spain. It is the capital ofthe Basque Country, and in 2012 it was awarded with the privilege of being EuropeanGreen Capital. It is actually a good example of how environmental and water issuesmust be manage in an integrated way.
