Key Partners cont.

Some of our key partners like WFP, Action Aid, FAO and OCHA, had conducted due diligence on the organization and have had favourable outcome before contracts were awarded.

OCHA recently gave KABHUDA satisfactory performance with respect to an EiE project funded 2017 standard allocation.

Performance score 78% and 80% for 1st and 2nd contracts respectively for WFP TPM activity.

Rann, shortly after 27th February, 2019 On their return, mainly from the Cameroonian far North region, the people of Rann

met huge destructions on all life facilities of theirs. KABHUDA was obliged to makethe 4-day perilous journey to meet the people and hear their story. In a FGD, theLawan of Rann said, about 27,000 people have returned (as at 7th March, 2019)and that on a daily basis no fewer than 10 families make it back home and now indare need of assistance from all humanitarian sectors. Facility need assessmentmade by KABHUDA indicates: Shelter : About 75% of shelters were destroyed Food and NFIs : WFP foods were looted and NFIs vandalized and ransacked Health: UNICEF, ICRC and MSF health facilities all destroyed Education: A non-functional learning centre with no offices, teachers or scholastic

materials. Children being out of school long before the most recent attack Logistics: All the 7 MSUs got wrecked with different degree of damages WASH: 37% of water facility was destroyed and the people were drinking untreated

water. (WASH need is elaborated in subsequent slides)

WASH facilities, how we met it Water Access to safe drinking water (quality, quantity & location)

100% of the returnees were drinking untreated water, and because 37% of the total water sources were damaged, the people did not get the 15 litresminimum requirement per capita per day. So also, many of them have to walk for more than 500m to the nearest water point.

Safe water management (collection & storage)Most of the HHs do not practice safe water management, it was observed at fetching water points, wide opened basins and iron-enamel coated containers without covers been used for fetching, and the same containers being used for storages. The reason being that their water storage containers (plastic jerrycans) were gutted by fire.

(OD), faeces were observed at immediate vicinity of shelters

The 1,835 latrine that are perceived to be functional, majority of them are faulty, (either have no doors, locks or roofs)

Rann; The way forward The Humanitarian needs are enormous and require

urgent intervention especially in the areas of:I. Food security (food distribution should commence urgently to avoid

famine).II. Health (Resumption of medical interventions to mitigate morbidity and

mortality especially of children and the elderly). III. Nutrition (Some of the <5 are already malnourished, they need

intervention to improvement their overall dietary status)IV. Education & Child protection (Children are in need of education,

protection and psycho-social support. Teachers and scholastic materials to be deployed) .

So far KABHUDA is having its boots on ground and is willing to continue doing what is required of it, until succour is dawn on the people in need provided funding or partnership is available.

Challenges and Limitations in terms of our WASH Program in Rann Challengesi. Inaccessibility: Reaching Rann by road is a herculean task and will even

become impossible when the rainy season sets in. OCHA has been supportive with UNHAS bookings for us, but we need to be able to have direct access to UNHAS ourselves.

ii. Safety on the road and in Rann- (For INSO to share with us safety related information and to also train our staff on crisis management skills.

LimitationI. KABHUDA has the manpower and will to go on with the WASH intervention in

Rann, but it is constraint by the current agreement- (WASH sector to advocate for agreement extension between KABHUDA and OCHA in order for us to continue with the WASH intervention at this critical time of emergency in Rann.
