MULTIPLEXING 101
Lets go over some basics before wemove on to cover the many advantagesof InternationalHigh Performancetrucks.
First, lets define multiplexing. After all, multiplexing, together withthe engine controller, transmissioncontroller, ABS controller, electricalsystem controller, and remote powerconnection points, is what makes thesetrucks wired for performance.
Multiplexingis the ability to sendand receive multiple messages overone pair of wires, similar to the land-linetelephone system. Multiplexing relies on
the use of several onboard computersto encode, sort, and decode multipleelectrical signals. Everything workstogether to get the job done.
Before, if we wanted to monitorengine oil pressure and watertemperature we needed two wires to
run from each sensor to the gaugecluster in the dash. A far more intelligentapproach is to use just one pair of wiresto connect all engine sensors to thegauges.
The result is a system with at least40 percent fewer wires for greater

reliability, and lower repair time andcost. In addition, a smaller harness iseasier to route and clip, making for acleaner installation.
Almost everything is multiplexed onthe Industrys First High PerformanceTrucks: the engine, transmission, anti-lock brakes, body control modules andthe major components of the instrumentpanel.
Multiplexed components includerocker switch packs, the gauge cluster, the electrical system control module, remote power modules, and airsolenoid modules. These are smartmodules developed by Internationalthat communicate and share informationwith each other, and the power train
control modules.
Now lets take a closer look atthe features and benefits of eachcomponent in the Diamond Logicelectrical system
Primary control of the chassis
electrical system takes place throughone Electronic System Controller orESC. Its the brain of the electricalsystem. The ESC communicates andshares information with other majorsystems like the engine, automatictransmission, ABS brakes, and drivercontrols in the cab.

ESC standard features includedaytime running lights, solid state turnsignal flashers, solid state lightingcontrols, intermittent wipers, and
electrical system diagnostic reporting.
Software programming allows for lowcost continuous ESC feature upgradesin the field. It provides a far easier wayto modify body control operations.
This is the revolutionary piece of the
puzzleit makes all the other benefitsof the InternationalDiamond Logicelectrical system possible.
The gauge cluster is another keypart of the Diamond Logic multiplexedelectrical system.
The gauges provide built-indiagnostics which let the driver know iftruck functions are out of range. Thereis a wide-angle gauge display, digitalodometer, and warning lights. There arealso audible alarms when gauges detectan unsafe operating range, such as lowfuel, low voltage, low oil pressure, or
high coolant temperature.
Older systems had as many as 90wires. Now, only seven wires feed theentire gauge cluster.
Stepper motors are used as thegauge mechanism for extreme accuracy

and reliability. A stepper motor is simplyan advanced technology that relieson electronics rather than mechanicalparts, so they will never jump like the old
gauges did when they lost stabilizer oil.
Bottom line, these gauges offergreater reliability. They also do a better
job detecting less than optimal vehicleconditions. They are easier to read, more accurate, and require fewerrepairs. This minimizes repair cost and
maximizes uptime.
Since the odometer now has a digitalLCD display, it serves as a numericfault code reader as well as trip andmile gauge. If you push and hold theselector switch, it even logs kilometers.
The Diamond Logic electricalsystem allows for factory installedcab switches, custom labels, andcustomized switch locations, all withintegrated ON LEDs and backlighting.Even the switch labels are designed forlong life. Labels are molded right intothe switches, so the switch name will
never rub off like some screen-printedlabels. Competitor labels can rub off in
just a few years.
Even custom label sheets are madeof durable plastic with backside printingfor scratch-proof protection. Thisprovides a customized, long-life driver

environment for better job performanceand safety.
The Diamond Logic electrical
system also includes up to threeoptional remote power modules. Eachmodule contains six switch inputs andsix power outputs, each with 20 ampsof current carrying capacity. This solid-state, weather-sealed box with heavy-duty battery feeds takes the place ofsix relays and six circuit breakers and
delivers up to 80 amps total.
In combination with the ESC,the customer realizes the benefitsof programmable fuse settings foreach remote power module output. This means the customer can customprogram fuse amperage level settings
for each output.
The Remote Power Moduleisthe body builders gateway into theInternationalelectrical system. Itslocated on the chassis, right where thebody builder needs it.
This saves the body builder time, materials, and provides greater warrantyprotection since the truck warrantyapplies from the cab up to the point ofthe power module.

added equipment with or withoutadditional software. The base packagefor integration of one remote powermodule includes six two-position latched
rocker switches in the instrument panel.Momentary-switch options can beadded for body functions as we will seelater in this program.
But first, a couple of notes onswitches to be sure these two types ofswitches arent confused.
Two-position latched rocker switchesphysically stay in the on or offposition when the switch is operated, and you can see that the switch islatched up or down. In addition, theseswitches have a memory; therefore, ifpower is lost, they will reengage after
the vehicle is restarted.
These switches are recommended forapplications that will use a remote start/stop functionality.
Momentary, center-stable, three-position switches dont physically stay
in the on or off position when theyare operated. Instead, when the switchis pressed, the software latches on.
In addition to the dash control of sixpowered output switches, each remotepower module provides six inputs.Theseinputs can be used to read body function

information, like a boom not stowedsensor, or a remote mounted switchposition.
When a power output is dependenton one or more inputs, the system issaid to be Interlocked. Interlocking is akey personnel and equipment protectionadvantage that will be discussed indetail in the next module.
In addition to providing power,
control and interlocking, remote powermodules also provide the ability touse three-way switches. Three-wayswitching is simply the placement ofdifferent switches in different locationsthat operate the same circuit, such as aswitch for a work light in the cab, and aswitch for the same light located at the
rear of the vehicle.
All of these remote-power modulebenefits make wiring a body easier, lesscostly, and more reliable. In other words,remote-power modules are designed tohelp the body builder integrate the bodywith our truck
The result is a more professionalappearance, more reliable installation, with greater warranty protection, fargreater resale value and, because itsintegrated with the Diamond Logicelectrical system, the truck bodybenefits from onboard and offboard

diagnostics. Repairs are easier andless costly because diagnostics can bedone by computer programs such asINTUNE or the Diamond Logic Builder
software.
The Air Solenoid Module is anapproach to expand system control. Iteliminates old flipper valves at the dashto operate air functions, which requiredtwo hoses coming into the dash foreach feature.
Now no air hoses are needed inthe cab for air controlled accessories. This weather-sealed module gates airthrough electronic control to variouscomponents with quality-connectfittings. These gate switches can benormally open or normally closed.
There are four and seven pack optionsavailable.
Universal air solenoid features aremapped back to dash switches to beturned on or off by the driver. Theseuniversal solenoids provide general-purpose control of air-driven body
equipment accessories.
This system enhances equipmentprotection because body operationscan be locked out in circumstancesin which vehicle components couldbecome damaged. For example, frontdrive axles cannot be shifted in or out

unless the vehicle is parked. Also, thereis less chance of air leaks with the useof quality connect fittings. Anotherbenefit is a savings on installation labor
and service time. It also allows theair system to pump up to operationalpressures in less time.
Whether its the four pack or theseven pack, there are multiple faultcodes that help diagnose the air system. For safety reasons, the ESC will shut
down the air accessory control system ifnecessary.
A fully-optioned system can have atotal of three remote power modules, upto two air solenoid packs with a total of14 air solenoids, and up to 24 rockerswitches. In other words, the body
builder or dealer can make the systemas large or as small as necessary tomatch customer needs.
Optional weather-sealed LED-lighteddoor pods provide power windows, including express down at all windowsand power locks. This means luxury-

engine start/stop. Almost all requireadditional stop, turn, tail, and bodylighting connections. Many requiretrailer connections.
Internationaloffers a variety ofelectrical code options that provide thebody builder a turn-key solution for allbody equipment control functions. Asolution that delivers more functionalityat less cost than the traditional methodsused to connect a body to a vehicle
chassis.
As we have already mentioned, connection points can be prewired andcomputer logic pre-installed from thefactory, dealer or body builder, and tailormade to the needs of the customer.Internationaloffers body builder
connection point packages or piece-by-piece integration for a completelycustomized solution.
In the past, body builders had to usea third party switch-pack module tooperate key functions. They had to pullout the dash to route wires, mount the
add-on switches and indicator lights, route wiring in and out of the caband, then, they had to splice into the chassiscircuits. In the process, if anything wentwrong, the body builder was totally ontheir own.

Well, not any more. Internationaltakes care of the in-cab wiring, switch pack installation and providesa centralized wiring connection
outside the cab. Internationalcoversthese components under warranty, and provides continuous on-boarddiagnostics for add-on equipment.
The process also saves money. Theinstalled price from Internationalisless than the cost of some third party
parts. Then consider the added valueof dramatically faster installation timefor the body builder. Also consider thereduction in problems and potentialtruck damage that customers can avoidduring the body building process. It alltranslates to faster body installation andincreased uptime for the customer.

categories: 595 codes, 08 codes, and60 codes. Features from other salescode groups, such as 12, 13 and 16,are also discussed when appropriate.
The 595 codes are software partnumbers for Internationaldesignedelectrical features. These 595 codes
contain the necessary software toimplement the control of features suchas headlights, wipers, air conditioning, fog lights, turn signals, dome lights, mirror heat, electric horn, fuel gauge, etc. 595 codes are used to manage thesoftware for both the 08 Electrical codesand the 60 Body Integration codes.

Provide other functions using thesame remote power module suchas remote engine speed control, general purpose body lighting orindicator light, and alarm systems.
As a base option, six two-positionlatched rocker switches, are includedwith each 60 series remote powermodule.
Options 60ACS, 60ACT, and60ACU, provide three-positionmomentary rocker switches with ON
indicator mounted on the dash. Theseoptions modify 60 series remote powermodule options to provide three-wayswitching functionality.
60ACS provides one switch, 60ACTprovides two switches, and 60ACUprovides three switches.
Each in-cab switch controls a remotepower module output. In addition, aremote power module input will alsocontrol that same output. For example,to turn on a cabinet or bin light frominside the cab with a dash mountedswitch, and from outside the cab with

a body mounted switch. The in-cabprovided switch is a three-positionmomentary style switch. The softwarewill latch the output on if either switch
is rocked up. Latching the software inlieu of the switch allows control frommultiple switches on the vehicle.
Power is only available in theaccessory or run position. Each switchrequires one remote power moduleinput and one output.
For example, to turn on a cabinet orbin light from inside the cab with a dashmounted switch, and from outside thecab with a body mounted switch, one ofthese switches is needed.
These features are defaulted
to vehicle road speed but may bealtered to operate from other interlockconditions, using ICAP or the DiamondLogic Builder software, once thevehicle is delivered.
Options 60ACG and 60ACH,provide two position, latched, rocker
switches. Each switch is backlit withan on indicator. Load maximum is 20amps. Output disengages when thevehicle exceeds 30 mph and additionalinterlocks are programmable.

shining lights. If the driver accidentallyleaves a light on and begins drivingdown the road, these lights will turn offwhen the vehicle speed reaches 30
mph.
Option 60ACG requires one outputand 60ACH requires two remote powermodule outputs.
Equipment Control of High
Amperage Outputs
Option 60ACE simply combines thepower of two remote power moduleoutputs to provide a maximum of 40amps of auxiliary power.
For example, this option works wellwith high amperage lights, such as
those used in recovery or snow plowoperations.

This light/alarm combination can beused to signal the driver to stop or moveor it can provide any other requiredsignal.
Code 60AJC uses two remote-powermodule inputs.
Option 60AJD for utility applicationsprovides two indicator lights in thegauge cluster, one for boom deployed, one for outriggers not stowed. It
includes an audible alarm andinterlock to the parking brake.
This feature includes twofunctionalities that are common in utility, crane or other applications that willutilize outriggers and/or a boom. Theboom-out-of-stow and outriggers-out-
of-stow indicator lights in the gaugecluster are triggered by remote powermodule inputs that can be connected toboom sensors and/or outrigger sensors. There are programmable options thatsound the in-cab audible alarm if thevehicle moves from the stationaryposition and one of these indicator
lights is illuminated signaling the driverthat the boom or outriggers are notstowed.

Remote Engine Speed Control
There are additional engine speedcontrol features in the 60 series of
body-integration features. Thesefeatures utilize the remote powermodule inputs.
These features increase the enginespeed to the first preset in the stationarymode using various activation options. There are codes available for utility,
recovery, refuse, and other applications.
Make sure that the engineprogramming feature, 12VXU for presetengine speed control, is ordered withthe vehicle if any of these 60 codes areused.
Since these codes are detailed andcomplex, refer to the CT-471 electricalcomponent book, to spec 60 codes forthrottle controls.
