Abstract: Google Analytics is an enterprise-class based web analytics tool which

provides a transparent view of website traffic and marketing effectiveness.

Google Analytics has powerful and advance features that give rich insight into the websites and improve website ROI (Return on Investment).

Google analytics, however, is not just about the number of people visiting a site, but is also about the quality of the traffic and what the visitors do when they access a site.

This paper demonstrates features of Google Analytics. On the basis of the evaluation of web usage, web site owners can enhance the efficiency of marketing, and web traffics.

This paper will also present the limitations of the Google Analytics and propose better approach to overcome the issues.

Introduction:» Analytics is the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful

patterns in data.

» Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of web data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage.

» There different web analytics tools i.e., Google Analytics, yahoo web Analytics, etc..,.

» Google Analytics is developed by Google , in 14th Nov 2005 and we can install to our own website , we can analyze our website.

» By using this we can get report on our website like know the traffic of website i.e., daily , weekly , yearly.

Important Features Of G.A» 1. Setting Goals:

By defining a goal in Google Analytics it tracks and generates reports to measure business objectives. It measures analytics users’ site engagement goals against threshold levels that they define.

» 2. Flash, video, and social network application trackingGoogle allows analytics users to track Flash, video, and social networking sites. It tracks usage of Flash ,social networking, and web 2.0 applications.

» 3. Comparing Date RangeAllows comparison between two different time intervals

» 4. Deep Geographic Data:It allows viewing how a user’s site is performing in various city or country. It helps users to identify the most lucrativegeographic markets.

5.Funnel Visualization A funnel represents the route that users expect visitors to take on their way to converting to the goal . Funnel visualization page allows users to see how visitors abandon goals. By knowing the information, site owners can fix the page that result in lost opportunities and where their customers go.

6.Bounce Rate:The bounce rate presents how many people come to Google Analytics user’s site and leave without going anywhere. High bounce rate indicates that visitors find webpage irrelevant. Analytics allows users to view bounce rate over time, and its hows how it varies from page to page.

7. Mobile trackingGoogle Analytics has introduced mobile analytics tracking. It tracks mobile websites, mobile applications, and web enabled mobile devices. For mobile tracking reports, Google Analytics users need to install server side script.

You may already have a Google account (e.g. Gmail address), fill the fields in figure .

Otherwise To create a Google

Account you click on the Create an account now given below.

Go to the website www.google.com/analytics and click on the big bluebutton Access Analytics.

» Step 3 – Enter your Website Details :» Enter an account name for this account, your website address and time

zone. Also indicate if you are happy to share this information, accept the user agreement and create the account.

Step 4 — Copy the Code on to your Web Pages: Google will now display a piece of code that you have to copy onto every page of your website that you want to monitor .The code is like the following:

» Step 5 — Check that Google Analytics is Working:To ensure that everything is working ok, go www.google.ie/analytics and login to your account. If everything is working ok, the status column should have a green tick as shown.

Understanding the Default Dashboard

» 1. Visits : Over the period specified this shows a graphical representation of the number of visitors to your site. For every point graphed on this chart if you move your mouse over that area you will see a popup which will display the date and the actual number of visitors on that day.

» 2.Traffic SourcesThe traffic sources graph shows where your traffic is coming from. It can be very interesting to see how people are finding you. For example are they coming through search engines or are they coming via referring sites.

3.Site Usage:This contains a summary of usage statistics for your website but it also shows the trending graph. If you look at the image to the left hand site of the number this shows the trend of visits over the selected time period so it’s very handy to see summary trends and pick out any issues.

4. Map OverlayThe map overlay section shows where in the world your traffic is coming from. Google is able to detect which country visitors are browsing your site from. This can be very useful to determine where you can maybe target your marketing efforts.
