Developmental Vision For Maritime Shipbuilding Industry In Vung Tau
Vietnam is ranked 5th in the world for Shipbuilding. Vietnam has entered the shipbuilding stage and is ranked 5th in the world for shipbuilding. The country’s government has declared the sector one of its priorities and is investing in increasing its output capacity as well as the technology level of the sector. (Source: Clarksons/ CESA)
Vietnam’s Marine & Shipbuilding Related Investments to speed up. By 2010, Vinashin is expected to invest nearly VND 4,000 billion in shipbuilding establishments in Haiphong, raising capacity for building new ships and repairing ships with a view to earning revenue of VND 8,000 billion.
Accordingly, big shipbuilding factories in the city will be expanded and restructured to the model of
parent companies to form shipbuilding industry groups. Bach Dang Shipbuilding Corporation has invested in a modern production line to manufacture ship hulls in order to provide semifinished products to other shipbuilding factories. Pha Rung Shipbuilding Corporation’s project on expanding and raising production capacity in Minh Duc town, Thuy Nguyen district has been also approved.
NASICO is forming a new production system to build the second 70,000-tonne ship beam and a 300-metre wharf. NASICO now has 13 member companies and the number will be increased to 28 members in the coming time. NASICO has signed many new contracts that ensure jobs for more than 5,000 workers until 2016.
With the sea mouth and own over 50 seaports, VungTau has an ideal condition for the shipbuilding industry and sea transportation. Vung Tau is located in the south of Vietnam (just an hour boat ride from HoChiMinh City), situated at the tip of a small peninsula. It plays a significant role in Vietnam’s offshore oil industry. Vung Tau is the only petroleum base of Vietnam where crude oil and natural gas exploitation activities dominate the city’s economy and contribute principal income to Vietnam’s budget and export volume. In addition, Vung Tau is also strong in shipbuilding with over 50 seaports which are invested by the shipping and marine terminal operators group in the world such as PSA (Singapore); Hurchison (Hong Kong, China); Maersk (Denmark); SSA Marine (USA); CMA-CGM (France); Yang Ming (Taiwan - Chinese) ... since the government has a policy of relocating the inner harbor in Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau seaport became the center of the Southeast region, the port group No. 05 include: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The major ports focused primarily on the Thi Vai River. Saigon Port and Ba Son factory relocation and construction are major seaport in here. Thi Vai River flows ensures deep capacity ships docked on 50,000 tons. The container ship over 100,000 tons were landed BRVT can go straight to Europe, America. So far, the province has 24 / 52 ports went into operation, the remaining ports are in the process of planning and construction. Ba Ria Vung Tau Province is the gateway for the Southern region, located near the international maritime and port provinces with Vietnam.
