CONTEXT

� Incineration of bio-medical waste is the most common option for destroying substances representing a risk to Public Health. However, incineration give out quantities of metals, dioxin and other potentially hazardous substances which are a problematic for public health and environmental regulation.

CYCLE DESCRIPTION

STEP 1: bags loading (manually or automatically)

STEP 2: Grinding by rotative blades up to 1500 RPM

STEP 3: Waste is exposed to a temperature up to 110°C by a HF micro-wave generator.

STEP 4: Maintaining up to 110°C during 20 min (sterilization)

STEP 5: Automatic unloading into a intended container


SYSTEM CONTROL

1. Automated process :The entire process is controlled by a PLC.

2. The Software manages the waste treatment cycle, ensuring that the temperature parameters and the safety are under control.

UNLOADING

� At the end of the cycle, the door is openning. The rotor pushes out the waste into a specific container

The principle of the Autoclave is to heat up with

saturated steam the chamber by rising the

pressure inside the tank. The waste are heated up

from the outside to the depths by thermic

exchange. The temperature at the depths of the

waste is rising up more slowly which request a

higher tempreature degree for the waste

This chart is describing the temperature at the depths of the product (the waste actually) and not the temperature of the chamber (temperature sensors)The temperature at the depths of the product is heating up quickest with microwave than with saturated steam. The efficiency of disinfection of the STERILWAVE device (8log) is over than most part of Autoclave solutions (6log)


Adaptation of the microwave with metal wastes

Insulator description

� Static mechanical component which is not running with electricity.

� Composed of 3 similar guideline for the microwave transfer. The insulator is dimensioned for this magnetron frequency: 2450 MHz

� Installed between the Magnetron and the chamber where are disposed the waste.

Role of the Insulator

� Insulating and protecting the magnetron of any reflected power due to the reflection of microwave on metal parts.

� The insulator insure:1. The transfer of the power between the magnetron (way

N°1) and the chamber (way N°2)2. the complete deviation of any reflected wave from the

chamber (way N°2) to the evacuation way N°3 (cooling system to evacuate the power).
