ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses an analysis of millennial slang words found in the
“MEIKARTO” Whatsapp group. In this study, slang words are often encountered
in informal discussions. Therefore, this research aims to find out the following
research question; what are millennial slang words and the types of slang found in
this study.
The researcher used the qualitative descriptive method. The object of this
study was the “MEIKARTO” Whatsapp group. The data were collected using
document analysis (screenshot) on the chat conversation “MEIKARTO” Whatsapp
group which contains slang words. The data were taken from March until July 2020.
The results show that there are 23 millennial slang words found in this study
such as; Bro, shit, prank, ex, typo, u, FWB, N word, ges, fuckboi, bullshit, kepo,
dude, WTF, OTW, Awokwokwkw, Holy shit, Sadboi, Omg, Qt, The fuck, xixixi, and
True mint. The researcher also found five types of slang words based on the theory
by Allan and Burridge on the member chat they were; 8 fresh and creative, 5
flippant, 1 imitative, 5 acronyms, and 4 clipping.
