Courage -the ability to do something that frightens a person. Life/ Triathlon – The sport has taught me to face my fears and to

take on my weaknesses in order to complete a challenging multi-sport event.

Professional Life- Tackling my fears in a triathlon has given me the confidence to take on complex and challenging tasks knowing that I can see them through successfully.

Endurance- the ability or strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue stress, or other adverse conditions; stamina. Life/Triathlon- To successfully complete a race, I need to have the mental fortitude to push past

the pain and rely on my endurance and experience to see me to the end. Professional- We recently had to move our warehouse and the task was both complicated and

challenging. In order to successfully transition to the new environment, I had to rely on the mental strength I developed from triathlons to see the project to the end.

Attitude - a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior. Life/Triathlon – No matter if I am running, swimming or

cycling, I have to approach the sport with a positive spirit knowing that I can finish the race. My positive attitude and outlook means that I am in control of my mind, body and spirit.

Professional- Like triathlons, a positive attitude and a flexible mindset means that I can work with my team towards finding solutions that improve our business and support my staff.

Dedication- committed to a task or purpose. Life/Triathlon – The journey to completing a triathlon starts with the first step, stroke or revolution. To

complete a triathlon means that I have to be willing to put the time into training no matter how tired, distracted, or frustrated I am. Every triathlon I complete is a testament to my dedication and determination to make every step, stroke or revolution count.

Professional – Job success and advancement comes as a result of dedication to every aspect of my job, knowing that every positive action I make will improve the company, improve my customer’s experience, and support my team.

Perseverance - steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Life/Triathlon – Nothing has taught me more about determination and

perseverance than swimming against the tide or riding against the wind. These experiences have forced me to adapt to the challenging conditions and focus on progress in spite of the feeling like I am not moving.

Professional – Many aspects of work can not be measured, so the progress seems stagnant or slow. Triathlons have helped me focus on pushing forward knowing that there will be success around the next corner or in the next mile.

Limits- a restriction on the size or amount of something permissible or possible. Life/Triathlon – Strength of character and mental

flexibility have allowed me to adapt to the ever changing race conditions in order to successfully finish.

Professional – Triathlons have taught me to focus on developing my own strengths and to remain flexible when facing problems. By focusing on what I can control and letting go of external and uncontrollable forces, I am able see projects through to the end.
