I am an incredibly highly motivated CIPD-qualified HR professional with experience of working in a variety of Government Departments and GlaxoSmtihKline (GSK), undertaking a range of roles that include business partnering, talent consultancy, change management, large scale people operations and organisation design (OD). Currently I am an HR Deputy Director for OD leading the development of a target operating model for the newly formed Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), a project which is currently progressing from strategy to implementation and so I am seeking my next challenge in the private sector. I am a self-starter with the learning agility and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships quickly to deliver.

Key Achievements

1. Designing the senior structure after the merger of 2 government departments to stabilise leadership of BEIS.2. Leading a national operational team of HRBPs to partner Work Services in DWP through transformational change

(714 Jobcentres, 27000 employees across the UK). 3. Acting as a change agent through GSK’s multi-billion dollar 3-part deal with Novartis which involved an

acquisition, joint venture and a divestment. 4. Leading in the design and launch of the Civil Service High Potential Stream, a world class talent development

programme.

Work History

Promotion to HR Deputy Director for Organisation Design, BEIS (June 2016 - present) Currently leading the development of a target operating model for a newly formed department which was

announced by the Prime Minister on 14th July 2016. BEIS is responsible for ensuring our economy grows strongly based on a robust industrial strategy, that the UK has secure energy and that we deliver climate change ambitions.

I was brought in to deliver transition at pace and stabilise the leadership cadre before the new financial year. The transition project involves identifying the people, skills, and processes and technology required to deliver

Ministerial policy objectives and develop professional standards for our policy colleagues. I am leading the design of structures for BEIS to challenging timescales, ensuring the department is designed

within affordable headcount based on our Autumn Statement settlement. The resulting impact will mean a reduction in size from 4120 to 2800 over 3 years to become a smaller, leaner, more efficient department.

Promotion to Senior Operations HR Business Partner, Work Services Directorate, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Civil Service (May 2015 – June 2016)

Successfully led a team of 45 HRBPs based all over the UK partnering 714 Jobcentres (27000 employees), instilling principles of continuous improvement and setting high performance expectations. My team achieved the highest engagement score across HR in October 2015 at 74%, a 12% increase from 2014.

Led Jobcentres through significant resourcing activity over 11 months, including an internal promotion campaign to fill 2000 vacancies, an external recruitment campaign to bring in 1800 Work Coaches and a voluntary exit scheme to support 1400 colleagues to leave DWP.

Built the leadership capability of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) through a blended approach of psychometrics, individual and team coaching, face to face learning, TED-Talks and fortnightly releases of neuroscience articles.

Providing strategic direction and support to my team to embed the DWP leadership strategy and capability plan to ensure people developed into strong, capable leaders with a future focussed mindset.

Selected as talent to be a Change Consultant, Global Support Functions, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) (April 2014 – May 2015, 1 year talent secondment)

GSK is a big pharmaceutical organisation with over 95,000 employees globally.

I led the impact of change for GSK’s Global Support Functions (corporate functions including HR, Legal, Finance, IT) resulting from a multi-national $20 billion 3 part deal with another pharmaceutical giant Novartis. Worked through people implications across 25 countries including changes to legal entities, employment status and redundancies.

International HR consultancy to global functions within GSK using their Accelerated Delivery Principles (ADP) to support business areas through restructures and redundancies, facilitate organisation redesign, build capability, manage international relocations, embed policies and coach senior leaders.

Global restructure of a 700-person team that supported the integration of a new local IT system. Involved re-design of the function, expansion of groups, relocation of employees from the UK to the US and redundancies.

Set up a cross-organisation network of HR graduates from the Civil Service, GSK, Atos and BP.

Promotion to Talent Consultant, Corporate Talent Team, Civil Service HR (September 2012 – April 2014) Designed the operating model for the Civil Service High Potential Stream (CSHPS) to develop the future leaders of

the Civil Service corporately and across departmental / professional boundaries. Ensured the talent development offer links through the levels from middle manager to director with the aim of

creating a strong succession pipeline for the most senior leadership roles in the Civil Service. After consultation with stakeholders across Government and securing agreement to the design principles,

launched the CSHPS in July 2013 to 100 high potentials which tripled in size within 18 months to 300, seeing a return on investment with 20 promoted and 4 on secondment to external organisations during that period.

Led the coordination of an event targeted at 200 senior leaders with the aim of instigating culture change and commitment towards managing and developing talent corporately. I built relationships with and brought in external partners Kingfisher, Deloitte and Boston Consulting Group to facilitate engaging sessions.

Faststream placement as HR Business Partner, Strategy Group, DWP, Civil Service (April 2011 – September 2012)

Coordinated transformational activity in order to restructure 2 large policy areas into a single Strategy Group - a reduction of employees from 1015 to 790. Activity involved stakeholder engagement, managing the selection and posting process, job role design and providing quality employee relations advice and guidance.

Provided quality HRBP support to the Director for Disability and his SLT, who were responsible for supporting the development of policies to remove inequality between disabled and non-disabled people.

Equipped key clients with the appropriate tools and knowledge of performance management, attendance management, recruitment, talent management and succession planning with the ultimate aim of helping them to effectively manage their employees and improve engagement and productivity.

Faststream placement as HR Policy Manager, Home Office (Sept 2009 – April 2011) Drafted and implemented the redundancy policy, gender reassignment policy and recruitment policy for the

Home Office and its agencies including Criminal Records Bureau, Identity Passport Service and UK Border Agency (circa 35,000 employees). Involved extensive consultation with the departmental trade unions.
