Floodplain Program for Public Information
PPI Goals:
• Tailor outreach program for local needs
• Promote greater flood awareness
• Clearly say what people should do before, during and after a flood
• Repeat the message from different sources, and
• Evaluate and update efforts annually
Floodplain PPI Committee
• The PPI Committee consists of 10 members• 2 City staff members from Public Works and
Transportation
• 1 City staff member from the Office of Communications
• 1 insurance agent
• 6 representatives from the community• Floodplain residents, utility companies, major
employer, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, HOA representatives, etc.
Evaluate Current Outreach Efforts
• Review all floodplain education and outreach materials
• Review outreach efforts from other communities and agencies
• Discuss flood issues in Arlington
• Identify additional target audiences
• Identify additional topics
Flood Insurance Assessment
• Assessment Evaluates:
• Number and location of flood insurance policies
• Flood insurance coverage by land use
• Number of claims in each flood zone and by each land use
• Identifies areas that need coverage improvement
• Develops a Flood Insurance Coverage Improvement Plan
Flood Response Plan
• Identify pre-flood messaging and target audiences
• Identify active flood messaging
• Review and identify improvements to current post-flood response education and outreach
