ABOUT JAVA

Java, a purely object oriented language, was conceived byJames Gosling, Patrick Naughton, Chris Warth & Ed Frank atSun Microsystems in 1991.

Java is a programming language expressly designed for use inthe distributed environment of the Internet.

It is designed to have the look and feel of the C++ language,but it is simpler to use than C++.

Java can be used to create complete applications that may runon a single computer or be distributed among servers andclients in the network.

HISTORY OF JAVA

Java was developed by Sun Microsystems of USA in 1991.

Java initially called Oak after an Oak tree that stood outsideGoslings office.

The language also went by the name Green.

Then the language was renamed Java in 1995, due to somelegal snags. Java is just a name.

Sun released the first public implementation as Java 1.0 in1996.

With the advent ofJava 2, new versions had multipleconfigurations built for different types of platforms.

NETBEANS IDE

The NetBeans IDE is an open-source integrated developmentenvironment written entirely in Java using the NetBeansPlatform.

The current version is NetBeans IDE 5.5.1, which was releasedin May 2007.

All the functions of the IDE are provided by modules. Eachmodule provides a well defined function, such as support for the

Java language.
