Signs that a child may have vision concerns include:
Constant eye rubbing Extreme light sensitivity Poor focusing Poor visual tracking (following an object) Abnormal alignment or movement of the eyes
(after 6 months of age) Chronic redness of the eyes Chronic tearing of the eyes
Help your toddler become a good listener…
Talk about things that interest your child.
Use parallel talk (tell your child what he/she is doing) and self talk (tell your child what you are doing). This can help focus your child’s attention on your words.
Play games using spoken directions: “Hide the ball under the table” or “Clap along to the music.”
Talk to your child about sounds around the neighborhood. Point to things like the dog that is barking or the sounds the shopping cart makes.
Healthy Dental Habits
Model good dental habits for your toddler.
Do not share spoons or cups with your child.
Try to wean your child from bottles between 12 to 18 months.
Give fruit juice only at meals.
Brush your child’s teeth twice a day.
When the child is able to spit, usually around 2, add a pea-size amount of toothpaste to the brush.
Floss your child’s teeth daily.

Las señales de que un hijo puede tener problemas de visión son:
Frotarse los ojos constantemente Sensibilidad extrema a la luz Poca concentración Pobre seguimiento visual (al seguir un objeto) Alineación anormal o el movimiento de los ojos
(después de 6 meses de edad) Enrojecimiento crónico de los ojos Lagrimeo crónico de los ojos
Ayude a su hijo ser un buen oyente . . .
Conversen sobre cosas que le interesan a su hijo.
Use la conversación en paralelo (describa a su hijo lo que está haciendo) y el hablarse a sí mismo (describa a su hijo lo que uno está haciendo). Esto le puede ayudar a su hijo a enfocar la atención en sus palabras.
Jueguen juegos usando indicaciones de voz: “Esconde la pelota debajo de la mesa” o “Aplaude según la música.”
Hable con su hijo sobre los sonidos en la vecindad. Apunte a cosas como el perro que está ladrando o los sonidos que hace el carrito de la tienda.
