Remembering Aspy Mistry
We are saddened to inform you of the passing away of Aspy Mistry, in California on January 4
2017.
Aspy and his wife Roda moved to Bedford in 1989 and im-
mediately got involved with the Zoroastrian community in
Dallas and ZANT. Having lived in New Jersey they were
amazed at land prices in this area and they convinced many
in the community that acquiring a permanent home for
ZANT could be a possibility. Roda served on the ZANT Board
from 1990-1992 and in June 1991 they hosted the very first
meeting for a building, in their home. Although it took twen-
ty years to achieve that dream, Roda and Aspy remained
staunch supporters for building the ZANT Center with their
encouraging words and deeds. When they moved to south-
ern California they continued similar efforts and helped to
make a Center in that area a reality.
Aspy was born in Mumbai, he had an older brother Noshir and a younger brother Jangoo. Aspy
worked as a Radio Officer on the ship during the early 60’s. Their family moved to the US and
made New Jersey home for many years. They were active members of ZAGNY.
Aspy’s loving personality made him a favorite Uncle for many kids. At Christmas he delighted in
dressing up as Santa Claus to give the little ones a thrill. At parties he made it a point to seek out
the children and play games with them. He remembered our birthdays and you could expect to
receive a hand-written card with beautiful calligraphy, reaching you by mail on exactly the right
day. He and Roda were both avid gardeners and had taken the training to become master gar-
deners. Their home was always open to all and they hosted many friends, some for many weeks
at a time. Genuinely generous and kind, Aspy was a happy and compassionate person who was
always willing to lend a helping hand.
Aspy is survived by his wife Roda, his children Percy and Khoosnam and their spouses Laura
and Cawas Commissariat and grandchildren Eric, Amy, Ava and Cyrus.
May his soul rest in peace!
We offer our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the families for their loss.

Religious Class:
At our January Religious class, our little ones went over the Zoroastrian calendar - 30 days, the name for each day and the meaning of the name and how it relates to us / our lives. We used a visual aid chart divided into 30 days and 30 flash cards with pictures/symbols to match up to the days and reinforce our learning. Wow - each day has a special name - pretty cool! Some repetition re-quired and we will be oh so smart!!
Our middle-age group had a dis-cussion on A Few Great Zoroastri-ans -
Kae Khusraw and Adar Gush-nasp
Dastur Adarbad Mahrespand
Dastur Ardaviraf
Nikbanu & Pir-E-Sabz
Zarathushtra & the Miracles he performed
Dastur Meherji Rana
We ended the class discussing about the “Nirangdin Kriya” & its efficacy challenged in the 1960s!
Mr. Eddie Edujee made a presentation on Holis-tic Health and Healing in the Zoroastrian Reli-
gion at the ZANT Center in December. In the January class, the teens got a chance to view a PowerPoint presentation based on the infor-mation presented by Mr. Eduljee. Of particular interest were his steps to holistic healing incor-porating the principles of the Amesha Spentas. This perspective led to a productive discussion on what constitutes healthy living and how im-portant our physical environment is for our mental and spiritual well being.
Thank You!
We are very grateful to our Parent Volunteers for catering lunch for our kids & adults & a monthly Birthday Cake, at each Religious Class. We’d like to thank the Buhariwalla, Godiwalla & Sidhwa families for January class lunches & Balsara family for the cake!
Children’s Religious Class:
Our next religious class will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Please be at the ZANT Cen-ter by 10:45 a.m. so we can have the Prayers & Tandarosti for kids in the Prayer Room at 11 a.m. For further details about the Reli-gious Classes, please contact Pearl P. Balsara .

WEEKEND WONDERS 4 KIDZ
Weekend Wonders 4 Kidz ... Making weekends wonderful, one kid at a time, one bag at a time, one week at a time!
WOW... WHAT A YEAR!
2016 was an amazing year for Weekend Wonders 4 Kidz.
We grew beyond our wildest dreams and our efforts have provided hundreds of bags of food to feed hungry children.
Since our inception we have encountered so many children that go hungry, so many families that are in need and so many people in general that require help and support.
Our item of the month for January is empty bags. Yes, please save your empty grocery bags for us. We use them to make up the packs. It's also a great way for you to recycle!
Please remember if your kids are in need of service hours, we are happy to award hours for food donations!
Thank you, as usual, for all your help and support.
Happy New Year!!

DESIGN A FEZANA LOGO
In 2017, the Federation of Zoroastrian Association will celebrate 30 years of its founding. To mark the occasion, FEZANA announces a competition to design a logo for the organization. The new logo will become the official logo of FEZANA and will be used on FEZANA website, social media sites, business cards, letterhead, posters, souvenir trinkets and gifts, or anywhere else FEZANA chooses.
The logo should have a Zoroastrian theme and reflect FEZANA’s Mission. It may reflect any as-pect of Zoroastrian religion, culture, architecture, iconography, social custom, tradition, philos-ophy, etc. that the artist chooses. It should be professional in appearance and appropriate for a North American charitable organization like FEZANA. It should have universal appeal, but be of relevance – stylistically and otherwise – in North American society, and particularly, in the North American Zoroastrian communities that FEZANA serves.
Notwithstanding these requirements, young artists who may not have the technological tools to create professional looking logos are encouraged to participate. If the artist’s concept and de-sign win the competition, FEZANA will assist in transforming the design into a functional logo. As such, artists of all ages are encouraged to participate in the competition.
For further details please visit the website: https://fezana.org/logodesign or contact Arzan Sam Wadia, Vice-President, FEZANA at vp@fezana.org for any inquiries, clarifications, ques-tions or comments.
