YEAR 13 PARENTS’ EVENING ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM
The Year 13 Parents’ Evening is on Tuesday
7 October 2014 from 4.30 to 7.00pm in the
Curnock block.
The school has now introduced an intuitive
and easy to use online appointment booking
system for parents’ evenings. This
considerably improves our previous system
which relied on students making bookings
with teachers. This online system is now
being used for all parents’ evenings.
The system enables parents to choose their
own appointments with teachers, for which
parents will receive email confirmation.
Year 13 parents/carers have been sent
information about booking appointments
including the log in details, together with a
short guide on how to use the system. Parents
will be able to make bookings from 10.00am
today, 30 September. Visit https://stbartholomews.parentseveningsystem.co.uk
to book your appointments.
If parents/carers with students in Year 13 do
not have access to the internet please contact
the appropriate House office who will add
appointments on your behalf.
KEY STAGE 3 AWARDS Thank you to everyone, especially the
students and parents, who made the evening on
18 September such a success.
The evening took the form of an Oscar awards
ceremony. There were four students
nominated in every subject who each received
a certificate and book voucher. The overall
winner was announced on stage. Nominees
and winners are detailed on pages 4 to 7.

EVERS NEWS Now the autumn term is in full swing, the
Evers community spirit is gaining
momentum! Along with our House orchestra
our House music captains are busy leading our
choir in rehearsal, ready for House music. At
the same time as this, tutor groups are busily
preparing for our House Evening which will
be held on 14 November. This year’s theme is
“Evers goes to the Movies”. We are calling all
students to try to take part in any way they
can. This could include song, dance or even a
sketch. The staff are busy preparing some
extra special surprises. While the main point
of the House Evening is for students to
showcase their talents and to have fun as a
house, it is also a great opportunity for us to
raise money for our House charity – West
Berkshire Mencap.
On the point of going
the extra mile for
charity, it is fantastic
to report that Evers
students – Alexander
Harvey, Oliver Pizzey,
Matthew Van Zyl and
Robert Weekes
completed a long
distance sponsored bike ride. In doing so they
managed to raise an amazing sum of over
£400! Well done lads!
In addition to our last Evers News, we would
like to add to our celebration of Jacob
Aldridge’s achievement in Judo. He won gold
in the 60kg division of the Heart of England
(Cadet) competition. Well done, Jacob!

*******************************
DAVIS CHARITY Students, staff and parents of Davis House
have raised an incredible £3,508.77 for
Prostate Cancer UK over the last school year.
Every two years Davis students are invited to
nominate a charity and give a brief
presentation in assembly. All the students and
teachers in Davis House then vote. Prostate
Cancer UK was chosen in this way and
nominated by last year’s House Captain.
Students have raised the money by organising
cake sales, sponsored walks, runs, bike rides,
car boot sales, an Easter Fair, a chocolate
raffle, badge and bracelet selling, coffee
mornings, secret Santa, carol singing, karaoke,
a disco and House evening. In particular,
Cicely Colthurst raised £515 doing a sky dive
and Owen Miller raised £580 doing three cycle
events. Pictured presenting the cheque to Mr
Simon Lord,
representative
from Prostate
Cancer UK are

continue to raise money for Prostate Cancer
UK during the next academic year.
**************************
Sunday 21 September saw a good-sized
audience gather in Newbury Corn Exchange to
hear the final of the inaugural Newbury
Songwriter of the Year competition, organised
and sponsored by Hogan Music. St Bart's had
two finalists in the 11 who made it through the
preliminary rounds of students from West
Berkshire and further afield into the depths of
Hampshire, Sam Prentice (Y13) and Tilly
Minchin (Y11). The competition was stiff,
with all composers having to perform their
songs in front of a large audience and the
panel of judges.
The final verdict saw Tilly coming out as
winner with her song Cover Up which made a
real impact on judges and audience alike. She
won a cheque for £1000 to be spent in Hogan
Music, five days recording time in a studio
with an engineer to put together a professional
quality demo CD, and the Music Department
also received a cheque for £1000 to be spent
on musical equipment.
Congratulations to Tilly on this wonderful
achievement; we are very proud of her.

BOYS’ PE

St Bart’s v Theale Green, Football National
Cup – 1-0 to St Bart’s
St Bart’s got off to a good start controlling
most of the play. The boys dominated for the
first ten minutes resulting in a brilliant goal
scored by Archie Awford. After this the team
kept most of the possession during the
remaining first half. Theale Green had a
couple of chances, but nothing dangerous.
The second half got off to a tense start with
Theale Green when their striker chipped our
keeper, Tom Cole, but missed the post by a
whisker. Theale Green then delivered a
dangerous corner result in Tom making an
excellent save. St Bart’s then bounced back
with a succession of quick passes and were on
the counter attack, unfortunately failing to
score. The match ended with a successful win
to St Bart’s 1-0 taking the team through to the
next round.
Squad – Tom Cole, Louis Measures, Louis
Mortimer, Theo Thomas, Scott Bailey, Archie
Awford, Canberk Caner, Jordan Hobbs,
Sammy Hart, Thomas Williams, Jamie
Wardle, Henry Chandler, Joe Power and Jack
Graham.

Lacrosse Reports v Queen Anne’s
Year 10
On Saturday 20 September the Year 10 played
at Queen Anne’s. This is always a tough
match and the girls had a sparse squad of just
12 players which made things even tougher.
The team were 5-0 down at half time and the
final score was 12-3 to Queen Anne’s. Every
player gave 100% and a special mention to
goal keeper Freya Eva who had a great game
and to Annabel Mangan for the second game
running being awarded player of the match.
Squad - Freya Eva (goal keeper), Alissa
Thiel, Rebecca Shaw, Amy Q-G, Laura Kirk
(captain), Abby Graham, Georgina Sanderson,
Frankie Twyford, Annabel Mangan, Beth
Daly, Issi Sanderson, Tozin Sonubi.
Year 9
The team had a smaller squad for this fixture,
meaning each player had to work harder. It
took Queen Anne’s eight minutes to score
their first goal and it was pleasing to see how
hard the girls worked in defence. Courtney
Renouf, Millie Pope and Izzy Lainsbury all
deserve praise for working hard the entire
game. The final score was 11-1 to Queen
Anne’s and Izzy scored the St Bart’s goal.
Davina Emetulu as goal keeper was deservedly
awarded player of the match.
Squad – Davina Emetulu (goal keeper), Alice
Points, Izzy Lainsbury, Courtney Renouf
(captain), Jess Allum (captain), Emma
Greenslade, Lilia Norman, Katherine Wade-
Berrospi, Millie Pope, Hannie Makant, Finola
Mangan, Thea Manton, Niamh Watson, Tegan
Scapens.
