Pathway Options…

Remember when thinking pathways:

• Not every student’s pathway will be the same

• One pathway is not right or wrong, but suited to the individual student

• The industry, educational and training landscapes are constantly changing

• There are multiple pathways to achieve a career goal

• Post schooling destinations are specific to the career goals of each student ie University, TAFE, employment.

Pathway Options…

Apprenticeships and Traineeships:

• School-based or Full-time options.

• Available to every student.

• Must meet a minimum academic and behaviour expectation (school-based).

• Interviewed by ILO for readiness for workforce.

Senior School Expectations

100% of students graduate at the end of Year 12 with a QCE or QCIA.

QCE = Queensland Certificate of Education

QCIA = Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement

Senior School Expectations

Study

- Several tutorials and homework club options available to attend.

- All students should complete between 10 - 15 hours of personal study a week.

Behaviour

- Student Code of Conduct 2021 must be complied with at all times.

- PB4L – positive celebrations and reinforcement.

- The full and correct uniform must be worn at all times (including going to and from school).

Attendance

- 95% minimum attendance.

- Every minute, every lesson, every day.

- Medical certificates must be provided for missed assessment.

Academic Progress

- Year Level Head of Department tracks each student’s performance.

- Student’s may be expected to follow an academic success plan to ensure they perform to the best of their ability.

Queensland’s Senior School qualification is:

Internationally recognised

Achievement based

Flexible ― letting you choose what, where

and when you study.

Assessment in the QCE system…

General Subjects:

- 3 internal assessments and 1 external assessment

Applied Subjects:

- 4 internal assessments

Essential English and Essential Mathematics:

- 3 internal assessments and 1 common internal assessment

VET Certificates and Diplomas:

- Individualised assessments to collect evidence against each unit of competency

University pathway…

Those wishing to pursue an academically rigorous university pathway must meet the following prerequisites:

Minimum of B in all Year 10 subjects;

Where this hasn’t been met, a SETP and pathway review may occur.

Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

• The ATAR is a fine grain rank order of students between 0.00 and 99.95.

• QTAC will calculate ATARs based on:• Students best 5 General subjectsOR• Student’s best results in 4 General subjects + Applied

subject or VET course.

• In addition, an English subject must be studied to be ATAR eligible.

What do you need to know for students wishing to go to university:

1. Subjects they can study to become ATAR eligible.

2. How the ATAR is calculated.

3. QTAC applications (done in September of Year 12).

4. University entry requirements and scholarships.

Diploma Courses

There are a range of Diploma Courses available for our students to study while at school.

Did you know – a Diploma course can assist a student in gaining entry in to university!

(CWC) Interviews

3 September

Parents/carers and students are only required to

attend their virtual 20 minute interview that day.

- Interview with your student’s Connect teacher.

- Discussions around strengths, opportunities

and career pathway conversations.

- Attend from the comfort of your own home via

Blackboard Collaborate (Ultra) (same platform

as students use for classes and as the subject

expo!).

Senior Education and Training Plan

(SETP) Interviews

15-18 SeptemberAll Year 10 parents/carers must book an

appointment via SOBS (information will be

emailed to you).

- Interview with a member of admin.

- Completion of the SETP.

- Completion of Year 11 & 12 Subject Selection.

- Face-to-Face (COVID-19 guidelines pending).

What is SETP?

Overview:

State Schools ensure that students develop a Senior Education and Training Plan (SETP), in partnership with their parents.

The SETP maps out a plan of action to put students on track for success in Senior Secondary, Post-School Education and Work.

Year 11 & 12 Subject Selection

- Subject Selection Handbook- Issued to student’s during CWC week.- Electronically available on website after CWC.

- All currently enrolled Year 10 students must complete a Subject Selection form by end of this Term.

- Who can help you and your student?- Guidance Officers, Year Coordinators, Heads of Department, Subject Teachers,

Connect Teachers, a wide range of our support staff, and your SETP Interviewer.
