WALT (We Are Learning To)Understand the work of Yayoi Kusama and how to create an artwork inspired by her style of work.

WILF (What I’m Looking For)An exciting and abstract artwork inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s artworks.

Materials ● A4 piece of paper● Black texta/marker● Coloured textas/pencils

examples of Artworks that have been inspired by Yayoi Kusama

Outline of task1. First start by drawing using greylead pencil. Later you will go over it in black

pen/texta. Begin by drawing an irregular curvy line within your A4 sheet of paper (or a slightly smaller size of paper is fine). This is the border that will contain all the organic shapes and abstract pictures.

2. Then look at Yayoi Kusama’s artworks on previous slides for inspiration and start to draw organic shapes, dots, patterns and abstract pictures (e.g. heads, faces, eyes and pumpkins). Use your imagination to create fun and interesting shapes and patterns.

3. Then once you have filled in the space full of abstract shapes, pictures and patterns colour it in with bright bold colours!

4. Then once you’re happy with your artwork, write your answers to the reflection questions on a piece of paper and take a photo of it or you can type them up into the google doc. Then take a photo of your artwork and upload it to your computer. Then go back to the visual arts google classroom and insert the photos to your google doc OR you can email me your work to isabella@chelseaps.vic.edu.au.

*If you are unable to upload the photos of your work, write your answers on a piece of paper and keep it in a folder with your artwork and you can hand that into me at a later date.

Reflection1. What did you enjoy about this activity?2. What did you find challenging in this activity?3. What did you learn about Yayoi Kusama and her artwork?
