NON-CHURCH CEMETERIES
AKER CEMETERY
The Aker family cemetery is located at the top of a hill above a pasture on the
north side of state route 643 (645 on the map) approximately 1 mile west of Mt.
Zion Church in the Piney community.
AKER CEMETERY 2
The Aker family cemetery is located on the east side of White Oak Lane
approximately .25 miles north of the intersection with state route 643.
AKERS CEMETERY
The Akers cemetery is located in a field approximately .75 miles north of the
terminus of state route 638 in the Piney Community.
To reach this cemetery take state route 94 to state route 638. At the end of the
road follow the path into the woods to a wooden gate. The cemetery is
approximately .25 miles from the gate across the field.
AKERS CEMETERY 2
The Akers cemetery is located on the edge of a field on the Richard Kidd family
farm. To reach this cemetery follow state route 608 west from state route 100 for
approximately 1 mile to a gravel road on the left. This road has been designated
as Ashbrook Lane. Follow this road to the left into the field. The cemetery is
located at the edge of the field in a separate fence next to the Kidd family
cemetery.
AKERS CEMETERY 3
The Akers cemetery is located on the north side of state route 621 between
routes 100 and 608. It adjoins the Dalton Stilwell cemetery.
ALDERMAN CEMETERY
The Alderman family cemetery is located in a field behind the home of Mrs.
India Lou Beasley. On the southeast side of state route 608, approximately 1 mile
east of the intersection with state route 100.
ALEXANDER CEMETERY
The Alexander cemetery is located in a field .5 miles off the south side of state
route 607 approximately 2.5 miles east of the intersection with U.S. route 52. This
cemetery is located next to the Rankin and Spencer cemeteries, each enclosed
in its own fence.

ALLISON CEMETERY
The Allison family cemetery is located a short distance east of Boiling Springs, on
the old John Allison home place. It is near the junction of Routes 619 and 629,
and about two hundred yards south of the large, L-shaped barn build by
George L. Carter.

The Allison cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state route 609 in
the Pine Run community.
ARCHER CEMETERY
The Archer cemetery is located on the south side of state route 698
approximately .03 miles east of the intersection with state route 627.
ARCHER CEMETERY 2
The Archer cemetery is located on the west side of state route 643 (645 on the
map) behind a large brick house, approximately .25 miles from the intersection
with state route 640. The location of this cemetery is very near Liberty Hill Church.
ARMBRISTER CEMETERY
The Armbrister family cemetery is located in a small valley on the top of Ramsay
Mountain, east of Max Meadows. It is towards the east end of the valley.
ARMBRISTER FAMILY CEMETERY 2
The Armbrister family cemetery is located in a field on the east side of State
Route 634 (Rickey Road) near the home of Mrs. Rita Armbrister.
To reach the cemetery, travel on Route 52 South, then turn right onto State
Route 94 (Ivanhoe Road). At the intersection of Route 52 and Route 634, turn left
onto Route 634 (Rickey Road). The cemetery is about 1.5 miles on the left (east)
side of Route 634 (Rickey Road).
The cemetery is located in a large clump of brush.
ARNOLD CEMETERY
The Arnold cemetery is located on the north side of state route 640, .6 of a mile
west of the intersection with state route 94. The cemetery is located up a gravel
drive and is not visible from the road.
This cemetery is located near the Coleman and Taylor cemeteries.
AUSTIN CEMETERY
The Austin cemetery is located on the north side of state route 640,
approximately 1/8 of a mile west of the intersection with state route 94.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 640 to a gravel drive between a brick
house and a beige frame house. Behind these two dwellings is a blue frame
house. The cemetery is located in the field behind the blue house.

BAILEY CEMETERY
The Bailey family cemetery is located behind a gray trailer on the west side of
state route 797, approximately .25 miles south of state route 619.
BAKER CEMETERY
The Baker cemetery is located off a dirt road approximately 1 mile northwest of
state route 608, north of the Foster Falls Community.
To reach this cemetery, take U.S. route 52 to state route 608, follow this road for
approximately 2.5 miles to a left side unnumbered dirt road. Follow this road for
approximately .75 miles. The cemetery is located in a field on the right side of
the road.
BASINGER CEMETERY
The Basinger cemetery is located off the east side of State Route 625 (Gap of
Ridge Road). To reach this cemetery, follow Route 11 West from Wytheville to
Route 625. Follow Route 625 for approximately .5 miles to a narrow driveway on
the east side of the road. Follow this road for approximately .25 miles to the
home of Henry and Mavis Basinger. The cemetery is just north of the home in a
clearing.
BERTHA CEMETERY
The Bertha cemetery is located in a wooded area at an end of Timber Road. To
reach this cemetery follow state route 608 to Bertha Farms Road. Follow Bertha
Farms Road for approximately .5 miles to Timber Road. Follow this road to the
end of the pavement. To the right you will see a trailer set off from road. The
cemetery is in the woods behind the right you will see a trailer set off from the
road. The cemetery is in the woods behind the trailer.
BEASLEY CEMETERY
The Beasley cemetery is located in Austinville on the south side of Route 619 at a
point 0.4 miles northwest of the intersection of Routes 619 and 636. It is in a large
fenced area fronting on 619, but the gravestones themselves are at the back of
the area and consequently not readily visible from the road.
BETHEL CEMETERY
The Bethel cemetery is located between Wytheville and Max Meadows, in an
open field a short distance northwest of the Bethel Methodist Church in
Stringtown.
BILLINGS CEMETERY
The Billings cemetery is located on top of a hill on the right hand side of State
Route 643 approximately ¼ mile north of State Route 642 and approximately ½
mile south of State Route 619 in the Huddle Community.

BLACK CEMETERY
The Black family cemetery is located approximately 400 yards to the east of
state route 772, approximately 1.25 miles south of the intersection with state
route 607.
BLAIR CEMETERIES
These three small cemeteries are all in the area around Walton Furnace in the
eastern end of Wythe County.
The cemetery identified as Blair 1 is in a thicket on the edge of a pasture
between Routes 634 and 631 and a short distance northwest of Walton Furnace.
It is a short distance west of the long-since abandoned Daniel Lockett house.
The cemetery identified as Blair 2 is on the rise a short distance north of the
Daniel Lockett house. A farm road comes to within about 100 yards of it.
The cemetery identified as Blair 3 is right beside Route 634 a short distance
northwest of the point at which 634 and 630 meet, about halfway between
Porter`s Crossroads and Austinville.
BLAIR CEMETERY 4
The Blair cemetery is located on a hill above the east side of state route 631
approximately .25 miles north of the intersection of state routes 631 and 630. To
reach this cemetery, follow the old road up the hill north of Blair`s Store. The
cemetery is in a clearing at the top of the hill.
BLAIR CEMETERY 5
The Blair family cemetery is located on the west side of Butterfly Lane, on the
south side of state route 694. This cemetery is located in the Slabtown
community, north of Ivanhoe.
BLANKENSHIP CEMETERY
The Blankenship family cemetery is located on the north side of state route 601
approximately two miles east of Interstate 77, in Bland County.
BOND CEMETERY
The Bond cemetery is located about 150 yards from the southwest side of state
route 607 approximately one mile east of the intersection with state route 100.
BOOTH CEMETERY
The Booth family cemetery is located in the eastern end of Wythe County,
between Fort Chiswell and Galena. From Fort Chiswell, go south on Route 52 to
the intersection (on the left only) with Route 627. The cemetery is in the field to
the left of 627 about 0.1 miles from the intersection.

BRALLEY CEMETERY
The Bralley family cemetery is located on the north side of state route 619
approximately .25 miles west of Reese`s Funeral Home. To reach this cemetery
follow state route 619 west from the funeral home. When you have passed two
houses, a trailer, and five more houses, you will see a driveway with a hedge row
on the left side. Follow this drive to into the curve. Proceed into the field. The
cemetery is located on a rise in the field.
BROWDER CEMETERY
The Browder cemetery is located on the east side of a gravel road north of
state Route 608. To reach this cemetery follow state Route 608 north from state
Route 69. At a point approximately .5 miles north of Route 69, the road will curve
eastward. At the curve, follow the gravel road north for approximately .25 miles
to a trailer on the west side of the road. The cemetery is located in a clump of
thick underbrush directly across from the trailer.
BROWNINGS MILL CEMETERY
This cemetery is located a short distance west of the point at which the South
Fork of Reed Creek flows into the main branch of Reed Creek, next to Old Stage
Road. On the South Fork a short distance west of the confluence of the two
streams is the site of an early mill, known variously as Brownings Mill, Kettering Mill
or the Old Stone Mill. The graveyard is located in a grove of trees on the hillside
to the west of the dam that marks the site of the former mill.
BUCHANAN CEMETERY 2
The Buchanan cemetery is located on the hill on the south side of state route
616 west of Rural Retreat.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 616 west from Rural Retreat for
approximately 2 miles to a point where the road bears sharply to the left. At this
point follow the path up the hill to the cemetery.
BUCHANAN CEMETERY
The Buchanan cemetery is located on a hill north of the railroad tracks and state
route 616 west of Rural Retreat.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 616 west from Rural Retreat for
approximately 2 miles to a point where the road bears sharply to the left. At this
point turn right onto a dirt road which crosses the railroad tracks. Once you have
crossed the tracks, turn left and follow an old farm road which parallels the
tracks. At the end of this road, follow the path to the right up the hill to the
cemetery.

BUNTS CEMETERY
The Bunts family cemetery is located on the west side of state route 631
approximately 1.75 miles south of state route 94.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 631 south to an old log house on the
west side of the road. At this point you will see a path which leads into the
woods. Follow the path for approximately .25 miles to a fork. At this point follow
the right fork to a clearing at the top of the hill. The cemetery is located in the
clearing.
BUNTS CEMETERY 2
The Bunts family cemetery is located on a hill on the west side of state route 631
approximately 1.6 miles south of state route 94.
This cemetery is located directly behind an abandoned white farm house.
BUNTS CEMETERY 3
The Bunts cemetery is located on the north side of Frazier Hollow Road just inside
Carroll County. To reach this cemetery, follow U.S. 52 to Pleasant View Road
(state route 743). Follow this road for approximately 1.5 miles to the intersection
with Frazier Hollow Road. Turn right onto this road. Follow this road for
approximately .75 miles. On the right hand side of the road there is a sign for the
Bunts Cemetery. Follow this road to the left side gravel road. The cemetery is
about .25 miles from the split in the road.
BURTON CEMETERY
The Burton Family cemetery is located on the old George Burton farm off the
west side of state route 603 in the Little Creek section of Bland County.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 603, south from state route 717 to the
Burton farm. Proceed up the farm road approximately .25 miles. The cemetery is
on a hill just north of the road.
CALFEE CEMETERY
This cemetery is located on the Paul Holston farm, approximately .25 miles
northwest of state route 608 very close to the Pulaski County line.
CALFEE CEMETERY 2
The Calfee cemetery is located at mile post 20.1 on the New River Trail State
Park. To reach this cemetery follow state route 621 from state route 100 to the
intersection with state route 608. Turn right on state route 608 and proceed to
the first road on the left. Follow this unnumbered road for approximately .25
miles. At this point take the first gravel road on the left. Follow this road from
approximately .75 miles to a farm gate. Go through the gate and follow the
rutted path to the intersection with the New River Trail. The cemetery is
approximately 100 yards from the old Edith Semones home, on the right hand
side of the trail.

CARMI CEMETERY
The Carmi cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state route 612 near
the Camp community in Smyth County.
CARTER CEMETERY
The Carter cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state route 622
approximately 1 mile west of state route 100.
CASSELL CEMETERY
The Cassell cemetery is located on the edge of a field which is presently owned
by Dr. Thomas Butt. To reach this cemetery exit I-81 at exit 28, take a left past
the Stuckeys Travel Store and then take your first right (state route 618), follow
this road for approximately 2 miles to a brown brick house. The cemetery is
located in the field about .5 miles northwest of the house.
CHANEY BRANCH CEMETERY
The Chaney Branch cemetery is located on the west side of state route 684
approximately .25 miles north of the intersection with state route 651.
CHAPMAN ROAD CEMETERY
This cemetery is located in the eastern end of Wytheville on Chapman Road,
adjacent to an electric substation.
CHILDERS CEMETERY
The Childers cemetery is located in the fort yard of Leon Collins, 216 Cherry
Lane, in Raketown, just south of Ivanhoe.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 601 (Raketown Road) south from
Ivanhoe into Carroll County. Take a right on Cherry Lane to the home of Leon
Collins. The cemetery is located in the yard near a storage building.
CHINAULT CEMETERY
The Chinault cemetery is located in a field above the north side service road
(which parallels I-81 south) approximately .25 miles west of state route 121. To
reach this cemetery, follow the dirt road into the field for approximately .75
miles. The single grave is in thick underbrush on the west side of the road.
CLARK CEMETERY
The Clark cemetery is located in a corn field above the east side of state route
631 approximately .25 miles from the intersection with state route 94.
COLEMAN FAMILY CEMETERY
The Coleman family cemetery is located on the north side of state route 640, .6
mile west of the intersection with state route 94. The cemetery is located up a
gravel drive and is not visible from the road.

COLLINS COVE CEMETERY
The Collins Cove cemetery is located in Collins Cove, near the point where
Wythe, Grayson, and Carroll counties meet. It can be reached by route 643,
which crosses Cripple Creek near Eagle Furnace and Route 642. The cemetery is
on the sloping hill above the point at which the main road ends inside the cove.
CONNER CEMETERY
The Conner family cemetery is located in the west end of Conner Valley a short
distance northeast of Hamilton Knob.
CORNELL CEMETERY
The Cornell cemetery is located on the south side of state route 607
approximately 2 miles from the intersection with U.S. route 52. The cemetery is
located near the Spencer cemetery in the Rackettown community.
CORVIN CEMETERY
The Corvin family cemetery is located on a small section of hillside land where
S.R. 654 crosses the railroad tracks near the old Fish Hatchery. The cemetery is
immediately adjacent to the road on the north side of the tracks.
CRAWFORD CEMETERY
The Crawford family cemetery is located in Barren Springs just off state route 621
between state route 100 and state route 608.
CRAWFORD CEMETERY 2
The Crawford cemetery is located in a field on the south side of state route 772
approximately .5 miles from the intersection with state route 607.
CREGER CEMETERY
The Creger Cemetery is located in an alfalfa field (as of 1987) on the southern
part of the Fisher farm off State Route 642, near the Huddle Community.
CREGGER CEMETERY
The Cregger family cemetery is located in a field off of the west side of Sun Ray
Lane. To reach this cemetery, follow the Old Stage road west from Wytheville to
Sun Ray Lane. Turn left and follow the road past several homes. The cemetery is
located approximately 150 yards west of the road in the field.
CROCKETT CEMETERY 1
The Crockett cemetery is located on a hill above property owned as of May
1989 by Lloyd W. “Jake” Suthers. To reach this property, take the north side
access road (which parallels I-81 south) to state route 649. Follow this road and
turn left to cross the railroad tracks to the Suther home.

CROCKETT CEMETERY 2
The Crockett cemetery is located in a field behind an abandoned Church of
God on the northwest side of state route 636, approximately one mile south of
the Wythe County line in Carroll County.
CROCKETT FAMILY CEMETERY
The Crockett family cemetery is located in Crockett`s Cove, on the right side of
S. R. 600 about 1.1 miles after it branches off to the right from S.R. 603 as one is
driving on S.R. 603 from Wytheville.
CROCKETT CEMETERY (Cripple Creek)
This cemetery is located on a ridge on the north side of State Roads 602/619 a
short distance west of the point where they diverge near Cripple Creek.
CROCKETT CEMETERY (Red Hill)
This cemetery is located on the top of the small hill east of the feature shown on
the topographic map as Red Hill and almost directly west of the confluence of
Reed Creek and New River.
DALTON CEMETERY
The Dalton cemetery is located off an unnamed dirt road off of State Route 608,
in Pulaski County, just over the Wythe County line. To reach this cemetery, follow
State Route 608 east from State Route 100. Just after you cross into Pulaski
County, you will see a dirt road on your left. Proceed on this road until you reach
a fork in the road. Follow the right hand fork for approximately .5 miles. At this
point, you will see a path on the left hand side of the road. Proceed up this path
to the cemetery.
DALTON/STILWELL CEMETERY
The Dalton/Stilwell family cemetery is located in Barren Springs along state route
621 between state route 100 and state route 608.
DANNER CEMETERIES
There are two Danner family cemeteries located a short distance west of Fort
Chiswell. To reach them from Wytheville take I-81 north to the Fort Chiswell exit
(Route 52) and then go south on 52 to the point at which Route 736 heads off to
the right. Proceed 0.3 miles on 736, then turn right onto Route 632. About 0.7
miles from the intersection of 736 and 632 an unmarked road goes off to the left
of 632. A small cemetery is located behind a house, about 500 feet south of
Route 632. This cemetery is identified as Danner 2.
The other Danner cemetery (identified as Danner 1) is located on the farm
owned in 1983 by John Danner. This cemetery is several hundred feet south of
Route 632 in an open field about 0.4 miles west of the road leading to the
Danner 2 cemetery above. It is clearly visible from 632.

DAVIS CEMETERY
The Davis cemetery is located on the Cripple Creek area, in an open field a
short distance south of Route 646 at the base of Henley Mountain.
DAVIS CEMETERY 2
The Davis cemetery is located in the Muskrat section of the county, on private
land off State Route 649 approximately ¼ mile west of the intersection with State
Route 720, turn left at the gate on the crest of the hill and follow the road to the
cemetery. The land as of November 1987 was owned by H. M. Hutton of Marion,
VA (703-783-6367) and permission must be granted for admittance.
DAVIS CEMETERY 3
The Davis family cemetery is located on a hill above the home of Ginger Rife
Davis and Justin Virgil Nester.
To reach this cemetery, follow U.S. 52 north for approximately 8 miles. The home
is located on the west side of road just before you reach Griffin Knob Lane.
Behind the gray trailer is a set of earthen steps. Follow these steps to the
cemetery.
DAVIS CEMETERY 4
The Davis family cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state route
617, approximately .5 miles from exit 54 off of I-81, in Smyth County. To reach this
cemetery, follow the exit to the right on to route 683. Follow state route 683 north
to the intersection with state route 617. Turn right on 617 (Hafley Hollow Rd.). The
cemetery is located in a field above an abandoned white house.
DEAN CEMETERY
The Dean cemetery is located in the East Piney section of Wythe County a short
distance to the right of Route 638 at a point about 0.3 miles west of the junction
of Route 638 and 94. It is situated in a group of trees.
DEAN CEMETERY 2
The Dean family cemetery is located on a small rise off the south side of state
route 69, approximately .25 miles east of the route 69-608 intersection. The
cemetery is located up a dirt road just past as an old auto garage and sits
almost on the line between Wythe and Carroll Counties.
DEAN CEMETERY 3
The Dean cemetery is located at 244 Coffey Road in the Gunton Park
community. To reach this cemetery, follow Gunton Park Road (Route 613) north
from Peppers Ferry Road. Gunton Park Road ends at Coffey Road. Follow
Coffey Road directly to the cemetery.

DOAK FAMILY CEMETERY
The Doak family cemetery is located on a hill approximately .75 miles north of
State Route 680, near Marvin Church.
To reach this cemetery, turn off Route 680, just past Marvin Church. Follow the
farm road north to a gate. Proceed through this gate to a second gate near a
bend in the road. Proceed through this gate into a field. The cemetery is
located on the crest of a hill overlooking the farm.
DRY POND COMMUNITY CEMETERY
The Dry Pond Community Cemetery is located on the north side of State Route
751, approximately 2 miles from the intersection with State Route 693. To reach
this cemetery, you will need to follow State Route 100 to State Route 693 in
Carroll County. Turn left on State Route 693 (Sylvatus, Smith Road) and proceed
for approximately three miles to the intersection with State Route 751 (Windsong
Road). Proceed on Windsong Road for approximately two miles. The cemetery is
located directly behind the Dry Pond Primitive Baptist Church.
DUDLEY CEMETERY
The Dudley family cemetery is located on the south side of state route 644,
approximately .25 miles west of the intersection with state route 601, in Ivanhoe.
DYER CEMETERY
The Dyer family cemetery is located north of the Barren Springs Community. It is
located up a hill through a pasture about 300 yards due east of the Route 618,
Route 100 intersection.
EARHART CEMETERY
The Earhart family cemetery is located on the east side of a dirt farm road north
of state route 680 between Marvin Church and state route 625.
EARLY FAMILY CEMETERY
The Early family cemetery is located in the middle of a corn field on the Watts
family farm. To reach this cemetery, take state route 94 to the corporate limits of
Ivanhoe. Take a left at the mailbox labeled Watts which is located just before
the A&C Grocery Store. Follow the gravel road to a large white house. The
cemetery is located beyond the house in the middle of the field.
FARISS CEMETERY
The Fariss cemetery is located on a hill above the terminus of State Route 750, in
Pulaski County, just across the Wythe County line. To reach this cemetery, follow
State Route 608 east from State Route 100. After you pass the old Boom Furnace,
you will see a sign for state Route 750, Kayoulah Lane. Proceed on this road to
the home of Bruce Faris. Follow the path near the left side of the home up the hill
to the cemetery.

FARRIS CEMETERY
The Farris cemetery is located on a hill on the west side of State Route 693, in
Pulaski County, very near the Wythe County line.
This cemetery is located next to several other cemeteries, each in their own
enclosure.

FISHER CEMETERY
The Fisher cemetery is located in the East Piney section of Wythe County at the
end of a driveway which goes off to the left of Route 638 at a point about 0.6
miles west of the intersection of Routes 638 and 94. This driveway is about 0.2
miles east of the East Piney Mission church.
FISHER CEMETERY 2
The Fisher family cemetery is located on a rise in a cornfield south of a home of
Dale Shaddle. To reach this cemetery, follow state route 619 east from state
route 94 for approximately one mile to a driveway on the south side of the road.
This drive leads to the Shaddle residence. Follow the farm road on the side of the
home to an orange farm gate. Turn right at this gate and follow this road south
to the second farm gate. At this point, proceed into the field for approximately
.5 miles to the cemetery.
FISHERMAN CEMETERY
The Fisherman cemetery is located in a field at the end of state route 694
approximately .75 miles from the intersection with state route 94. The cemetery is
located in an area of Ivanhoe locally known as Slabtown.
FOGLESONG CEMETERY
The Foglesong family cemetery is located approximately 1.5 miles west of Mt.
Zion Church on National Forest Service land in Crawfish Valley and
approximately two hundred feet southwest of the old Foglesong homestead.
FORT CHISWELL CEMETERY
The Fort Chiswell Cemetery (also known as the McGavock Cemetery) is located
just off Interstate 81 east of Wytheville, near the site of old Fort Chiswell. From
Wytheville, take I-81 east to the Fort Chiswell exit (Highway 52), then continue
east on Frontage Road 042 which parallels the interstate on the south side. The
cemetery is located where the frontage road comes to a dead end.

FOSTERS FALLS CEMETERY
The Fosters Falls cemetery is located on state route 608 approximately one mile
northeast of U.S. route 52.
FRAZIER CEMETERY
The Frazier family cemetery is located at the end of gravel road listed as Out of
the Way. To reach this follow U.S. 52, just inside the Carroll County line to
Pleasant View Road. Follow the road for approximately 1.5 miles to Frazier
Hollow Road. Turn right on Frazier Hollow Road. Follow this road to the
intersection with McGhee Road. Turn right on this road. Follow McGhee Road to
the second driveway on the right. This road is designated as Out of the Way.
Follow this road to a farm gate. The cemetery is just beyond the gate.
FROST CEMETERY
The Frost cemetery is located on the southeast side of state route 607
approximately .05 miles east of the intersection with state route 100.
FRY CEMETERY
The Fry cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route 680, 1.5 miles
west of the intersection with U.S. 52.
FRYE CEMETERY
The Frye family cemetery is located in a field about one mile south of the Cripple
Creek community. It is on the north side of 602, directly north of Fry Hill.

The Frye cemetery is located on the north side of state route 643 (645 on the

To reach this cemetery, follow state route 643 to a sharp curve in the road, as
you reach the top of the hill there will be a dirt drive on your right. After going
through the first farm gate you will see an abandoned house on your right.
Follow the right hand path to the second farm gate. Go through the gate and
up the hill into the field. The cemetery is located in a clump of trees in the field.
GALBREATH CEMETERY
The Galbreath cemetery is located on a hill above the intersection of state
routes 654 and 658. To reach this cemetery follow state route 654 east from state
route 100. Just before you reach the intersection with state route 658 (Delton
Road), you will see a farm gate on the north side of the road. Proceed through
the gate and into the field. The cemetery can be seen from the farm gate.
GLEAVES CEMETERY
The Gleaves family cemetery is located on the Dunkley farm, between Cripple
Creek community and Gleaves Knob.

GOAD CEMETERY
The Goad cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state route 688,
approximately 1 mile northeast of the intersection with state route 100.
GOODWIN CEMETERY
The Goodwin family cemetery is located at the end of state route 1010
approximately .25 miles from the intersection with state route 610.
GRAHAM CEMETERIES
There are three Graham cemeteries located in the eastern portion of Wythe
County.
The John Crockett Graham cemetery is situated between Max Meadows and
Gunton Park, a short distance south of the house owned (in 1983) by Clyde
Watson. It is in the midst of a small clump of trees in a field which is south of both
the railroad tracks and Pepper`s Ferry Road.
The Robert Graham cemetery is located in the middle of a field to the right of
the farm road which heads south from Carter Wayside, in the Horseshoe Bend
area of Wythe County. It is on the north side of Reed Creek.
The David Graham cemetery is located on a hilltop facing the David Graham
mansion in the Boiling Springs section of the county.
GRAHAM CEMETERY 4
The Graham cemetery is located on the south side of state route 621,
approximately .8 of a mile from the intersection with state route 100. This
cemetery is located on a rise above the Lawson cemetery.
GRAY CEMETERY
The Gray cemetery is located in a wooded area off of the north side of State
Route 636, south of Austinville. To reach this cemetery, follow Route 636 south
from State Route 69. Proceed to the Zion Hill Church sign on the right hand side
of the road. Follow the gravel road to the church. Just past the church, proceed
into the field on the left to a farm gate. Once you enter the next field, turn left
past the old barn into a partially wooded area. The cemetery is located in this
area.
GREGORY CEMETERY
The Gregory cemetery, also referred to as the Bell cemetery, is located in a field
on the east side of state route 636 on the Wythe/Carroll County line.

GRUBB CEMETERY
The Grubb cemetery is located adjacent to the railroad tracks west of the site of
Grubb siding. Specific directions for finding this graveyard are as follows: from
Grubb (shown on the USGS topographic map for Crockett and reached by
walking along the railroad tracks) walk west along the tracks for about ½ - ¾
mile. At one point Tate`s Run crosses under the tracks at the bridge known
locally as the “West Bridge”. The cemetery is situated at the top edge of the
next grade cut west of the West Bridge. The best access is simply to scramble up
the bank of the cut, which is about 10 feet high. The cemetery is very easy to
miss, as it is not marked on the topographic map, nor is it visible from the railroad
tracks.
GUNTON PARK CEMETERIES
There are two community cemeteries located in the Gunton Park section of
northeastern Wythe County. Their locations are as follows:
The cemetery herein identified as “Gunton Park” is in an open field on the north
side of Route 610 (Peppers Ferry Road) at a point 4.6 miles east of the junction of
Routes 1004 (which soon joins 610) and 121 in the center of Max Meadows. It is a
short distance northwest of an abandoned church, also on the north side of 610.
The cemetery herein identified as “Gunton Park 2” is located on the western side
of Route 613, approximately 0.3 miles north of the point at which 613 and 610
join. This junction is about 0.65 miles east of the entry gate to the “Gunton Park”
cemetery. The cemetery is set back about 200-300 feet from 613 and can be
reached by a gravel road which runs next to a house.
HAGER CEMETERY
The Hager family cemetery is located in a field a short distance east of Max
Meadows on land owned (in 1984) by Olin Armentrout. This field is situated
between Peppers Ferry Road and the Norfolk and Southern Railroad line.
HALSEY CEMETERY
The Halsey cemetery is located in a field 1 mile from the south side of state route
600, approximately 6 miles east of the intersection with state route 603.
HAMILTON CEMETERY
The Hamilton cemetery is located on the north side of state route 617
approximately .25 of a mile east of the intersection with state route 680.
HANCOCK CEMETERY
The Hancock cemetery is located on the south side of state route 601 across
from Strader`s Methodist Church and cemetery.

HARKRADER CEMETERY
The Harkrader family cemetery is located on a rise approximately 1 mile from the
home of John Wagner. To reach this cemetery, follow U.S. 52 north to West
Ridge Road. Follow West Ridge Road for approximately .25 miles to the entrance
to the Wagner farm. Follow the farm road to the Wagner home. Beyond the
house is another less traveled farm road in to the fields. Follow the road for
approximately .5 miles to a gate. Follow the next section of road which turns
west for approximately .25 miles to the cemetery. The I-81 bridge over Reed
Creek is visible from the cemetery.
HARRIS CEMETERY
The Harris cemetery is located in the Cripple Creek area on S.R. 651 near the
southwest corner of the intersection of that road and S.R. 690. It is very near to
and on the opposite side of 651 from Rosenbaum Chapel.
HART CEMETERY
The exact location of this cemetery is unknown, but the general area is south of
Cove Mountain and on the north side of Cove Creek.
HENLEY CEMETERY
The Henley cemetery is located on a hill on the west side of State Route 693, in
Pulaski County, very near the Wythe County line.
This cemetery is located next to several other cemeteries, each in their own
enclosure.
HIDDEN VALLEY CEMETERY
The Hidden Valley cemetery is located on the north side of state route 601 in the
Little Creek section of Bland County. To reach this cemetery, follow state route
601 approximately 8 miles from the intersection with state route 717.
HOLIDAY CEMETERY
The Holiday Cemetery is located in a pasture south of State Route 760 near the
Huddle Community.
HOLLANDSWORTH CEMETERY
The Hollandsworth family cemetery is located on top of a hill on the north side of
state route 94, approximately 1.25 miles south of Siloam Church.
At this point on state route 94 is located an unoccupied gray building. On the
left hand side of this structure is a gravel drive which leads to the cemetery.
HORTON CEMETERY
The Horton cemetery is located on a hill above the southwest side of state route
607 at the Wythe/Pulaski County line.

The Horton family cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route
607, approximately .5 miles south of the intersection with state route 100.
To reach this cemetery follow state route 607 to the home of Glenn W. Horton,
Jr. Follow the path behind the house which leads up the hill to the cemetery.
HOWARD CEMETERY
The Howard family cemetery is located in the woods on the edge of a field
approximately .25 miles east of the intersection of Old Cabin Road and River Hills
Drive. To reach this cemetery follow state route 619 east from U.S. Route 52 to
the old Bishop`s Garage. Turn right onto Beetle Spinner Drive. Follow this road for
approximately 1.5 miles to the above listed intersection. The cemetery is over the
first hill next to a large pine tree.
HOWARD CEMETERY 2
The Howard cemetery is located in a field off of state route 609 (pine Run Road)
approximately .5 miles from the intersection with state route 100.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 609 to the first sharp curve in the road.
At this point, follow the driveway to the house on the hill. Proceed into the field
to a barbed wire fence. The cemetery is located just beyond this fence.
HOWARD CEMETERY 3
The Howard cemetery is located on a hill overlooking Old Clark Ferry Road
(Route 653) and the New River. To reach this cemetery, follow State Route 609
east from State Route 100. Follow State Route 609 to the intersection with Old
Clark Ferry Road. Proceed on this road. As you approach the New River, the
road will eventually change from a paved road to a gravel road. Just past this
point you will see a sign for the Howard cemetery. Proceed up the dirt path to
the cemetery. This cemetery is divided by several fences, but it seems to be one
cemetery.
HUBBARD CEMETERY
The Hubbard cemetery is located in a field on the south side of state route 608,
approximately .5 miles east of the intersection with state route 100.
HUDDLE CEMETERY
This Huddle family cemetery is located on the south side of Route 619 about one
mile east of Huddle Memorial Church in Cripple Creek valley.
HUDDLE CEMETERY 2
The Huddle cemetery is located on a rise in the middle of a pasture off state
route 644 approximately 2 miles east of the intersection with state route 642.

The Huddle family cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route
619 near the intersection with state route 643 in the Huddle Community.
HUDSON CEMETERY
The Hudson cemetery is located southwest of Fort Chiswell. It is about 500 feet
east of Route 631 at a point 0.6 miles south of the intersection of Routes 631 and
94.
HUDSON CEMETERY 2
The Hudson cemetery is located on the edge of a field behind the home of
Worrell family. To reach this cemetery, follow U.S. route 52 south approximately 1
mile past Fort Chiswell High School to a large brick house on the west side of the
road. The cemetery is located in the field approximately 600 yards behind the
house.
HUMPHREY CEMETERY
The Humphrey cemetery is located on the west side of state route 631
approximately .5 mile south of state route 94.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 631 to the first hill. At this point you will
see a gravel road on the right. Follow this road for about .75 miles to the
cemetery which is in the field.
HURST CEMETERY
The Hurst cemetery is located about 150 yards from the southwest side of state
route 607 approximately one mile east of the intersection with state route 100.
JACKSON CEMETERY
The Jackson cemetery is located on the crest of a ridge on the north side of
Pepper`s Ferry Road (Route 610) behind a house at a point 6.1 miles east of the
Pepper`s Ferry Road entrance to the East End cemetery in Wytheville. It is 0.75
miles west of Route 716.
JACKSON CEMETERY 2
The Jackson cemetery is located in a field on the west side of state route 700,
approximately .75 miles east of U.S. route 52.
JACKSON CEMETERY 3
The Jackson cemetery is located on the Robert Jackson farm near Ivanhoe. To
reach this cemetery, take state route 94 to state route 639. Follow this road to
the first private road to the right. At the end of this road is the Jackson farm. The
cemetery is in the back yard near the houses.

JACKSON CEMETERY 4
The Jackson cemetery is located on the edge of a corn field on the Watts farm
in Ivanhoe. To reach this cemetery follow state route 694 to the end of the state
maintenance. Take a right into the Watts farm. Follow the westerly path through
the farm yard into the field. From this point it is approximately 1 mile to the
cemetery. This cemetery is located in an area of thick underbrush.
JACKSON CEMETERY 5
The Jackson family cemetery is located approximately 200 yards west of old
Charlotte Jackson home on the north side of state route 639 near the New River.
JACKSON CEMETERY 6
The Jackson cemetery is located in a field east of Riverview Drive near Ivanhoe.
To reach this cemetery follow state route 94 to state route 639. Follow State
Route 639 to Riverview Road. Follow Riverview Road to a cattle gate on the left
side of the road. The cemetery is located in the field overlooking the New River.
JACKSON CEMETERY 7
The Jackson cemetery is located on a hill above State Route 606 (Blair Road)
near the home of Mrs. Ellen Blair. To reach this cemetery, follow State Route 606
west from State Route 634 (Rickey Road) or east from State Route 605 (Dunford
Road) to a small automobile junkyard on the north side of the road. Follow the
path up the hill through the junkyard to the cemetery. The graves of two
children are enclosed in a fence, but the adult gravestone is lying against a tire.
JACKSON CEMETERY (Austinville)
This Jackson cemetery is located on the property of the New Jersey Zinc
Company in Austinville, on the lower section of the property near the New River.
Permission should be secured to enter the property, as there are chains across
the roads. Immediately after crossing the New River on Route 636 turn right into
the mine company property and take the road which heads west from the main
company office building. The cemetery is at the far end of the mine working at
the point where the area between the river bank on the right and the cliffs on
the left has narrowed considerably.
JACKSON CEMETERY (Sand Mountain)
This Jackson cemetery is located in the Sand Mountain community west of Fort
Chiswell. It is to the left of Route 633 about 0.4 miles west of the intersection of
Routes 633 and 634.
JACKSON MEMORIAL CEMETERY
The Jackson Memorial cemetery is located on a hill on the south side of state
route 69 approximately 2 miles west of the intersection of state route 69 and
interstate 77.

JOHNSON CEMETERY
The Johnson cemetery is located on the south side of state route 658, just west of
the intersection of state routes 654 and 658. To reach this cemetery, follow state
route 654 west from state route 100. Proceed straight through the intersection
with route 658. The cemetery is on the south side of the road on the steep
incline.
KEESLING CEMETERIES
There are two Keesling cemeteries in Wythe County: one is in the Max Meadows
area, the other near Cedar Springs.
The Max Meadows Keesling cemetery (the Conrad Keesling family) is located on
a hilltop a short distance south of the Locust Hill community. It can be reached
by a short road that runs north from Route 11 just east of where the highway
crosses Reed Creek and west of where it crosses Poletown Branch.
The Cedar Springs Keesling cemetery (the George Keesling family) is located on
a Forest Service road which leads west from S.R. 749 at a point about .15 miles
north of the junction of 749 and 614 at Cedar Springs, right on the Wythe-Smyth
county line.
KEMP CEMETERY
The Kemp cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route 100, just
past the intersection with Lindsey Lane. Once you pass Lindsey Lane take the
next gravel road up the hill to the cemetery.
KIDD CEMETERY 2
The Kidd family cemetery is located on the edge of a field on the Richard Kidd
family farm. To reach this cemetery follow state route 608 west from the state
route 100 for approximately 1 mile to a gravel road on the left. This road had
been designated as Ashbrook Lane. Follow this road to the left into the field. The
cemetery is located at the edge of the field.
KING CEMETERY
The King cemetery is located in a field on the west side of state route 625, just
south of state route 667 intersection.
KING CEMETERY 2
The King cemetery is located in the woods behind the home of Ruby Brown at
4722 Ivanhoe Road in Ivanhoe.
To reach this cemetery cross the fence line behind the Brown residence and
enter the woods. The cemetery is near the fence line south of the house.

LANDRETH CEMETERY
The Landreth family cemetery is located on a rise above Vineland Lane, near
the Barren Springs community. To reach this cemetery, follow state route 100
south from I-81 into Wythe County. Turn left on to Vineland Lane. Vineland Lane
curves to the left at the intersection with Whetstone Drive. Proceed on Vineland
Lane to the fourth trailer on the right. The cemetery is on a rise behind the trailer.
LAPHEW/LEPHEW CEMETERIES
There are two cemeteries belonging to the Laphew/Lephew family in the
eastern end of Wythe County, south of Fort Chiswell.
To reach the first one (identified as Laphew 1) go south from Fort Chiswell on
Route 52 to the intersection (on the left only) with Route 627. Proceed 0.4 miles
on 627 then turn right onto Route 698. The Laphew cemetery is on the right
about 0.3 miles past the point at which Route 731 angles off to the right of 698.
To reach the other cemetery (identified as Lephew 2) again proceed south from
Fort Chiswell on Route 52 and turn right on Route 630. (The turn is a short
distance south of the turn from 52 onto 627 described above). The cemetery is a
short distance to the left of 630 at a point 1.2 miles from Route 52.
LAWSON CEMETERY
The Lawson family cemetery is located in the Barren Springs Community. It is on
the south side of Route 621 between Routes 100 and 608.
LAWSON CEMETERY 2
The Lawson cemetery is located on the Lawson farm near the end of state route
639 in Ivanhoe.
LEWIS CEMETERY
The Lewis cemetery is located on the south side of state route 640 approximately
1 mile west of state route 94.
To reach this cemetery follow route 640 to the first steep hill. At this point there is
a gravel drive between two houses. Follow the drive into the field. The cemetery
is located in this field but is not visible from the road.
LITTLE VINE CEMETERY
The Little Vine Cemetery is located at the intersection of State Route 749 (Little
Vine Road) and State Route 769 (Peacock Drive). To reach this cemetery follow
state route 100 into Carroll County to Route 749. Turn right on the Route 749 and
follow this road for approximately 1 mile. Turn left onto Peacock Drive. The
cemetery will be on your right.

MABE CEMETERY
The Mabe cemetery is located in the Mabetown section of eastern Wythe
County on Route 716 which runs north from Pepper`s Ferry Road (Route 610) at a
point approximately 6.85 miles east of the Pepper`s Ferry Road entrance to East
End cemetery in Wytheville. The cemetery gate, which has sign reading “Mabe
Cemetery”, is on the left side of 716 about 0.1 miles north of Pepper`s Ferry
Road. The cemetery is located several hundred feet beyond the gate.
MABRY CEMETERY
The Mabry family cemetery is located in an open field approximately .75 miles
northwest of state route 608, north of the Foster Falls community.
To reach this cemetery, take U.S. route 52 south to state route 608, follow this
road for approximately 2 miles to the home of Rolla Mabry. Across the road is a
farm gate, follow the path to the second gate, just beyond this point will be the
graveyard.
MCMILLAN CEMETERY
The McMillan cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of Peppers Ferry
Road close to the Pulaski County line. To reach this cemetery, follow Peppers
Ferry Road east from Max Meadows to the home of Mike Harrell (637-4267) in the
Gunton Park community.
MAHONE CEMETERY
The Mahone family cemetery is located in a field at the end of an unnumbered
road approximately 1 mile from state route 608.
To reach this cemetery take state route 621 from state route 100 to the
intersection with state route 608. Turn right on state route 608 and proceed to
the first road on the left. Follow this road for approximately 1 mile to two
abandoned houses, one is white frame, the other is brick. The cemetery is in the
field approximately 200 yards to the east of these houses.
MANNING CEMETERY
The Manning cemetery is located on a hill on the west side of State Route 693, in
Pulaski County, very near the Wythe County line.
This cemetery is located next to several other cemeteries, each in their own
enclosure.
MARSHALL CEMETERY
The Marshal family cemetery is located in Barren Springs on the south side of
state route 621 and is immediately next to the cemetery identified as Swecker
family cemetery 1.

MARSHALL CEMETERY 2
The Marshall cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of State Route 693
very near the intersection with State Route 751, in Carroll County, very near the
Wythe County line.
MAX MEADOWS CEMETERY
The Max Meadows cemetery is located just west of Max Meadows, in an open
field northwest of the intersection of S.R. 610 (Pepper`s Ferry Road) and S.R. 1012.
MAX MEADOWS: Black Cemetery
It is located on the north slope of the hill approximately 0.1 mile south of
Pepper`s Ferry Road where the latter intersects Route 1010. It is almost due south
of the McGavock cemetery in Max Meadows.
MILLER CEMETERY
The Miller cemetery is located on the southeast side of state route 607,
approximately 1 mile from the intersection with state route 100. It is on property
next to the home of Ron Smythers.
This cemetery which contains only one grave marker is on the edge of a pasture
and is surrounded by fallen trees.
MONDAY CEMETERY
The Monday family cemetery is located at the edge of a field above state route
94, just north of the intersection with state route 619 (Porter`s Crossroads). The
cemetery is almost directly behind the new Baker`s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness
Church.
MONKS CORNER CEMETERY
The Monks Corner cemetery is located on the edge of a field approximately .5
miles south of state route 610. To reach this cemetery, take I-81 north exit 80
(Max Meadows exit). Follow state route 121 north to Max Meadows. After
crossing the railroad tracks, turn right (east) on state route 610. Follow this road
for approximately 1.75 miles to a gate on the south side of the road. Follow the
dirt road to another farm gate. At this point look southeast for a clump of oak
trees, approximately .5 miles away. The cemetery is located in this clump of
trees.
MONTGOMERY CEMETERY
The Montgomery family cemetery is located in a field approximately .75 miles
behind the Fort Chiswell Mansion. The cemetery is now property of the Stuart
Chapter of the DAR.

MORRIS CEMETERY
The Morris cemetery is located on a hill on the west side of State Route 693, in
Pulaski County, very near the Wythe County line. This cemetery is located next to
several other cemeteries, each in their own enclosure.
MURPHEYVILLE CEMETERY
The Murpheyville cemetery is located at the end of state route 695
approximately .5 miles south of the intersection with state route 616, west of
Rural Retreat.
NEFF CEMETERY
The Neff Cemetery is small, private graveyard located just east of Fairview
Church in Rural Retreat on property owned (in 1982) by Charles Roberts.
NEWLAND FAMILY CEMETERY
The Newland cemetery is a small family cemetery located in the vicinity of
Cedar Springs. From the junction of S.R. 749 and S.R. 692 (about 6 miles south of
the railroad crossing in Rural Retreat), proceed 1 mile west on 692. The cemetery
is on a hill on the right side of the road, on property owned (in 1981) by Leroy
Sloper.
OAKWOOD MEMORIAL GARDENS
Oakwood Memorial Gardens is a Black cemetery located on the north side of
Pepper`s Ferry Road a short distance east of the East End Cemetery in
Wytheville.
ODD FELLOWS CEMETERY
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) cemetery, commonly known as
the Odd Fellows cemetery is located on state route 755, approximately .5 miles
from state route 94 in Ivanhoe. To reach this cemetery take route 94 to state
route 694. Take a left on 694 and the next right on to route 755, the cemetery
which is quite large is on the left hand side of the road.
OGLE CEMETERY
The Ogle family cemetery is located on the crest of a hill on the north side of
state route 607 approximately 2.5 miles east of the intersection with U.S. route 52.
OGLESBY CEMETERY
The Oglesby family cemetery is located at the end of Route 701 south of I-81
near the house of James Crockett. The best way to reach the cemetery is to exit
I-81 at exit 28 and head north on the north-side service road. Turn onto Route
654 and go over the bridge which crosses the Interstate. Take a right onto the
south-side service road and follow it to Route 701.

OLD TOWN CEMETERY
The cemetery referred to here as the Old Town Cemetery was located in
Wytheville at the corner of North and 12th Streets where a now-empty lot (and
sometime baseball field) is.
OSBORNE CEMETERY
The Osborne cemetery is located on a hill overlooking State Route 637, near the
intersection of Routes 637 and 750 in Carroll County, very near the Wythe
County line. To reach this cemetery, follow State Route 100 to Route 750. Turn
right onto Route 750 and follow this road for one-tenth of a mile to the
intersection with Route 637. The cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the
intersection.
PAINTER CEMETERY
The Painter cemetery is located in a wooded area approximately 1 mile east of
state route 643 in the Huddle community. To reach this cemetery follow state
route 619 west for approximately 8 miles from state route 94 to state route 643.
Turn left onto 643. Follow this road approximately .2 mile to a dirt road on the left.
Follow the dirt road to a farm gate. Proceed through the gate and follow the
road as it curves to the left. Proceed into the field for approximately 500 yards.
The cemetery is in a wooded area on the opposite side of the corn field (as of
2002). This cemetery is on land owned by Ernest Groseclose (699-6554) and
permission must be obtained to visit.
PATTERSON CEMETERY
The Patterson cemetery is located in a field .5 miles off the south side of state
route 600 approximately 7 miles east of the intersection with state route 603.
PAUPER CEMETERY
The Pauper cemetery (sometimes referred to as Reed Creek or Common
cemetery) is located off state route 649 near the Wytheville town landfill.
PEIRCE FAMILY CEMETERY
The Peirce family cemetery, also known as the Chaffin cemetery is located on a
hill overlooking state route 69 at the intersection with I-77 in Poplar Camp.
PEOPLES CEMETERY
The Peoples family cemetery is located in a field on the west side of state route
94. To reach this cemetery follow state route 94 to a point just past the
intersection with state route 638. Follow the first driveway on the right hand side
to a farm gate. The cemetery is through the field on the crest of a hill
approximately .5 miles from the road.

PHILLIPS CEMETERY
The Phillips cemetery is located on the west side of State Route 637, in Carroll
County, very near the Wythe County line. To reach this cemetery, follow State
Route 100 to State Route 750. Turn right onto Route 750 and follow this road for
one-tenth of a mile to the intersection with Route 637. Turn right onto Route 637
and follow this road for approximately three-tenths of a mile.
PICKETT CEMETERY
The Pickett cemetery is located on a hill above state route 772 a short distance
from Pickett Chapel and just west of the intersection with state route 607.
POOR HOUSE CEMETERY
The Poor House cemetery is located in a field near the old Wythe County Poor
Farm. This property is presently owned by Abner and Sarah J. Graham.
To reach this cemetery, follow Peppers Ferry Road (Route 610) for approximately
2.5 miles from Wytheville to a large barn marked with a sign “Ole Wythe County
Poor Farm”. Turn left onto the gravel road. Follow this road to the overseer`s
house. The cemetery is in a field approximately .5 of a mile from the house.
POPE CEMETERY
The Pope cemetery is located on a hill off of the north side of state route 642
(Pope Road). To reach this cemetery follow state route 94 to state route 642.
Follow state route 642 for approximately 1.25 miles to an abandoned white
house on the north side of the road. To the right of the house you will see an old
barn. Go past the barn to the banks of Cripple Creek. You will need to traverse
the creek to the opposite bank. Once across the creek follow the path up the
hill to a point above the old Pope home. The cemetery is in a dense section of
trees and underbrush.
PORTER CEMETERY
The Porter family cemetery is located on the Bayne Grubb farm near Cripple
Creek. To reach this cemetery take U.S. route 21 south to state route 619. Turn
left on route 619 and follow this road for approximately 2.5 miles. At this point
look for large red barn on the left hand side of the road. Across from the barn is
the home of Mr. Bayne Grubb. Follow the path past the house which curves to
the left to a farm gate. The cemetery is located in a clump of trees in the middle
of a field.
PORTER CEMETERY 2
The Porter cemetery, also referred to as Rickey cemetery is located on a steep
hill on the west side of state route 643. To reach this cemetery follow state route
634 south from state route 94 for approximately 2 miles to a spring house on the
west side of the road. At this point follow the dirt drive up the hill past the white
farm house to the cemetery.

PORTER CEMETERY 3
The Porter family cemetery is located on the south side of state route 636 near
Sheeptown in Carroll County. To reach this cemetery follow route 636 for
approximately .5 miles after the road turns to gravel. At this point, the road turns
north near an old store. Near the left side of the store is a farm gate. Proceed
through this gate to a small stream. Cross the stream and proceed up the bank
the cemetery.
PRIMM CEMETERY
The Primm family cemetery is located at the base of a hill approximately 1.75
miles south of state route 607 on the Tommy Williams farm.
To reach this cemetery, follow the farm road to the Tommy Williams home. From
the house follow the fence line just to the east for approximately .75 miles to a
dry creek bed. The cemetery is located on the opposite bank.
QUESENBERRY CEMETERY
The Quesenberry cemetery is located at the top of a hill above property owned
as of October 1989, by Norman Goodson (699-1846), off state route 644
approximately 3 miles west of the intersection with state route 601.
RAMSAY MOUNTAIN CEMETERY
The cemetery which is here called the Ramsay Mountain cemetery (also
referred to as the Lampkins cemetery) is located on a terrace cut on the
western slope of Ramsay Mountain about 0.3 miles east of the Max Meadows
post office on Route 614.
RANKIN CEMETERY
The Rankin cemetery, also referred to as the Primm cemetery is located in a
field, .5 miles off the south side of state route 607, approximately 2.5 miles east of
the intersection with U.S. route 52. This cemetery is located next to the Alexander
and Spencer cemeteries, each enclosed in its own fence.
RANKIN CEMETERY 2
The Rankin family cemetery is located on a hill above the home of Mrs. Glenn
Marshall. To reach this cemetery take state route 100 south to state route 637.
Follow route 637 for approximately .25 miles to an unnumbered gravel road on
the right which winds to the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain is
the home of Mrs. Marshall. From the house follow the farm road to the top of the
hill, turn right and follow the path to a farm gate. The cemetery is just beyond
the gate.
RAPER CEMETERY
The Raper cemetery is located on a hill on the southbound side of U.S. 52 at the
intersection with state route 619.

RASH CEMETERY
The Rash family cemetery is located next to the Groseclose Chapel, on the
south side of state route 612.
READ CEMETERY
The Read cemetery is located on the north side of State Route 693, very near
the intersection with State Route 751, in Carroll County, very near the Wythe
County line. This cemetery is located directly behind the Marshall cemetery.
RICHARDSON CEMETERY
The Richardson cemetery is situated southwest of Fort Chiswell. At a point about
0.55 miles northeast of St. Paul`s Pentecostal Holiness Church a private road
leads south from Route 94. The cemetery is located on the crest of a hill about
half a mile from Route 94. A narrow, rutted road leads down to a pasture-gate,
and the cemetery is atop the hill opposite the gate.
RICKEY CEMETERY
The cemetery known as the Rickey Cemetery (sometimes also called the Miller
Cemetery) is located east of Max Meadows. It can be reached by going east
on Route 1004 (which soon joins with 610) 1.0 mile from the junction of 1004 and
121 in the center of Max Meadows. At the point 1.0 miles east of that junction a
farm road leads north from 610 past several farm buildings and up to an old,
abandoned house. The cemetery is located in a small clump of trees on the
crest of the hill north of the old house.
RIGGINS CEMETERY
The Riggins family cemetery is located in the Barren Springs community on the
south side of Route 608 about 100 yards west of the Route 100 intersection.
ROBINSON FAMILY CEMETERY
The Robinson family cemetery is located on a hill just west of State Route 605
(Dunford Road) near the home of Mrs. Ben Dunford. To reach this cemetery,
follow State Route 605 south almost to the intersection with State Route 606 (Blair
Road). At this point, you will be near the Dunford home. Follow the farm road,
which is located on the west side of the road for approximately .25 miles up the
hill. Proceed into the woods to a fence. You will need to go over the fence and
proceed slightly north. The cemetery is located in a grove of trees close to the
fence.

ROSE CEMETERY
The Rose cemetery is located in a field above the home of Mary Akers Rose, 149
Doe Run of Max Meadows. To reach this cemetery, turn left on Archer Road
from U.S. Route 52. Follow Archer Road to the intersection with Rome Road. Turn
right onto Rome Road. Follow Rome Road to the intersection with Doe Run.
Follow Doe Run for a very short distance. On the right hand side of the road are
two mail boxes. At the second (red) mail box, follow the gravel drive to a
cinderblock house. Behind the house is a path into a field. The single grave is
located in the right hand portion of the field.
SAFERIGHT CEMETERY
The Saferight family cemetery is located near the Barren Springs community on
a dirt road just off Route 622 near the intersection of Route 622/100.
SANDERS CEMETERY
The Sanders Cemetery is located at a ben in Route 619, about 1 mile northeast
of Route 52 in the Galena section of the county.
SANDERS CEMETERY 2
This Sanders cemetery, commonly known as the Sanders Mines cemetery, is
located off a dirt road approximately .5 miles north of state route 619.
To reach this cemetery take a left off U.S. 52 (south) onto route 619, and a left at
the iron cattle gate onto the dirt road. The cemetery is located at the edge of
the woods.
SARGON CEMETERY
The Sargon cemetery is located on the east side of state route 631
approximately 1.75 miles south of state route 94.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 631 to a gravel drive on the east side
of the road just north of Cranberry Lane. Follow this road into the field and over
two hills. Once you reach the top of the second hill you can see the single grave
marker on your right.
SAYERS CEMETERY
The Sayers family cemetery is located on a hill above the intersection of state
routes 618 and 609. This location is approximately one mile west of the
intersection of routes 618 and 100. The cemetery overlooks the New River.
SAYERS CEMETERY 2
The grave of Colonel Robert Sayers is located on a hill across from the Crockett
(Cove) cemetery. To reach this cemetery, take state route 603 (Cove Road)
north from Wytheville to state route 600. Follow state route 600 for approximately
1 mile to the Crockett (Cove) cemetery. Colonel Sayers grave is visible on the hill
across the road.

SEMONES CEMETERY
The Semones cemetery is located in thick underbrush near the unnumbered
gravel road leading to Bertha. To reach this cemetery follow state route 621
from state route 100 to the intersection with state route 608. Turn right on state
route 608 and proceed to the first road on the left. Follow this unnumbered road
for approximately .25 miles. At this point take the first gravel road on the left.
Follow this road for approximately .75 miles. The cemetery is on the right hand
side of the road in thick underbrush just before you reach the farm gate.
SHAFFER CEMETERY
The Shaffer cemetery is located on the north side of state route 634
approximately .5 miles from the south side service road which parallels I-81.
SHELTON CEMETERY
The Shelton cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route 664
approximately 3.5 miles west of U.S. route 52. To reach this cemetery follow route
664 crossing two bridges over Reed Creek. The cemetery is located across from
the home of Ann Summer.
SHELTON CEMETERY 2
The Shelton cemetery is located behind a barn on the north side of state route
664 approximately 3.25 miles west of U.S. route 52. To reach this cemetery, follow
route 664 to a farm site in a curve, on the north side of the road. Follow the drive
to the large barn to the left of the house.
SHELTON CEMETERY 3
This Shelton cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route 644
approximately 3.5 miles west of the intersection with U.S. route 52. To reach this
cemetery follow route 644 crossing two bridges over Reed Creek. This cemetery
is located across from the home of Ann Summer.
This cemetery is approximately 30 yards to the west of the Creed Shelton
Cemetery identified as: Shelton.
SHUCK CEMETERY
The Shuck cemetery is located near the Barren Springs community on a dirt road
0.1 miles north of state route 608 almost exactly on the Wythe/Pulaski County
line.
SHUPE FAMILY CEMETERY
The Shupe family cemetery is located on the north side of Iron Mountain about
20 feet above the west side of U.S. route 21 near the U.S. 21/Forestry Road 14
intersection.

SIMMERMAN CEMETERY
The Simmerman cemetery, also known as the Cedar Hill cemetery is located on
a rise in an open field approximately .25 miles east of the gravel plant which is
located on state route 649. To reach this cemetery follow the south side service
road which parallels I-81 north, for approximately 4 miles to a gravel road which
travels up a hill to the field.
SIMMERMAN CEMETERY 2
The Simmerman cemetery is located in a field on the north side of state route
619 near the intersection with state route 634. To reach this cemetery, take route
619 west from Austinville, to route 634. Follow this road to a group of three new
houses on the right hand side of the road. Behind the third house is a farm gate
allowing access to the field.
SIMMERMAN CEMETERY 3
The Simmerman cemetery is located on a hill on the western side of the
Grandview Farm. This farm is owned by Dr. James Laningham.
To reach this cemetery, follow the north side service road from Wytheville to
Steer Drive. Follow this road north to a large white house. From the house follow
the farm road for approximately .5 miles to a gate on the north side of the road.
Go up the hill to the next farm gate. Follow this farm road to two farm gates. Go
through the right side gate and into the field. The cemetery is on a hill about 100
yards beyond this gate.
SIMS CEMETERY
The Sims cemetery is located on the south side of state route 644 (Powder Mill
Road), approximately .25 miles west of state route 601. It is located on the edge
of a field behind the abandoned Johnny Sims house.
SMITH CEMETERY
The Smith cemetery is located on the north side of State Route 607 just east of
Boom Furnace. On north side of the road is a sign for the cemetery. Follow the
path up the hill to the cemetery.
SNOW CEMETERY
The Snow cemetery is located in a field about 150 yards from the southwest side
of state route 607 approximately 1.5 miles east of the intersection with state
route 100.
SNOW CEMETERY 2
The Snow family cemetery is located on the northwest side of state route 608
approximately 1.5 miles from the intersection with state route 100. The cemetery
is located in a field behind the home of Mrs. Annie Snow.

SPARKS CEMETERY
The Sparks family cemetery is located behind the home of Mr. “Bennie” Sparks.
To reach this cemetery, take the last left hand road off state route 94 before
entering Carroll County (state route 743). Once on state route 743, take the next
left on to state route 764. Follow this road under the old railroad trestle. The
Sparks home is the first home on the left past the trestle.
SPENCER CEMETERY
The Spencer cemetery, also referred to as the Archer cemetery is located on
the south side of state route 607, behind the home of Roy Davis in the
Rackettown community.
SPENCER CEMETERY 2
The Spencer cemetery is located in a field .5 miles off the south side of state
route 607 approximately 2.5 miles east of the intersection with U.S. route 52. This
cemetery is located next to the Rankin and Alexander cemeteries, each
enclosed in its own fence.
SPRINKLE CEMETERY
The Sprinkle cemetery is located approximately 150 yards behind the
abandoned Sprinkle`s Tavern. This decaying structure is located at the end of a
private dirt road approximately 1 mile northeast of the Virginia State Police
Headquarters. To reach this cemetery, take I-81 north to exit 24; on the east side
of the Virginia State Police Headquarters there are two gravel roads. The one
closest to the exit should be taken. Follow this road to the first curve. At this point
take right to an old gate; follow the dirt road for approximately .75 miles to the
tavern which is on the left hand side of the road.
SPRINKLE CEMETERY 2
The Sprinkle cemetery is located in a pasture on the north side of state route 683,
approximately .5 miles south of U.S. 11, in Smyth County. To reach this cemetery
follow U.S. 11 to the General Shale Brick plant, turn left on to route 683. The
cemetery is located in a farm yard.
STALEY CEMETERY
The Staley cemetery (also known as the Aker cemetery) is located on the crest
of a hill on the north side of U.S. 11 near the intersection with state route 676
(Lake Mount Airy Road).
STEFFEY CEMETERY
The Steffey cemetery is located on a hill on the north side of state route 677
approximately .25 miles from the intersection with state route 749.

STEFFEY CEMETERY 2
The Steffey cemetery is located on a hill just south of the intersection of state
route 679 and 615, about 1 mile west of the Wythe/Smyth county line.
STEPHENS CEMETERY
The Stephens family cemetery, also known as the Hurst cemetery, is located on
the outskirts of the Jett farm. To reach this cemetery, take state route 100 south
to the intersection with state route 607. Turn east on 607 and follow the road for
approximately .25 miles. Before you cross the second bridge over Little Reed
Island Creek, look to the right for the entrance to the Jett farm. Follow the farm
road for approximately .25 miles to the cemetery gate.
STRINGTOWN CEMETERY
The cemetery here known as “Stringtown” is located a short distance east of
Bethel Church, on the south side of and immediately adjacent to Pepper`s Ferry
Road.
SUITER CEMETERY
The Suiter family cemetery is located on the northbound side of U.S. 52
approximately 1/8 of a mile north of State Route 717 and 1/8 of a mile south of
State Route 686. The cemetery can be reached by following a path up into the
woods.
SUTPHIN CEMETERY
The Sutphin cemetery is a small, private graveyard located in the eastern end of
Wythe County, south of Fort Chiswell. To reach it, go south from Fort Chiswell on
Route 52 to the intersection (on the left only) with Route 627. Proceed on 627 for
0.4 miles, and then turn right on Route 698. About half a mile from this
intersection Route 731 angles off to the right of 698. The cemetery is on a hill
crest behind a house about 0.3 miles from the intersection of Route 731 and 698.
SUTPHIN CEMETERY 2
The Sutphin cemetery is located at the top of a hill on the north side of state
route 608, approximately 1 mile east of the intersection with state route 100.

SWECKER CEMETERIES
There are three Swecker family cemeteries located in the Barren Springs
community. They are identified as Swecker 1; 2; and 3. All are located along or
near Route 621. The first to be reached after leaving Route 100 is Swecker 3. It is
located approximately 0.5 miles from Route 100 on a hill overlooking Route 621
at the end of a long, rocky driveway. A white fence is located at the entrance.
Swecker 2 is the next site along Route 621. It is located near property owned by
Lona Davis. The Davis home is located on a hill, overlooking the road, at the
end of a long driveway. A large orange gate is located at the entrance to the
driveway. Swecker 1 is located on the south side of Route 621 and is
immediately next to the Marshall Cemetery.
TAYLOR FAMILY CEMETERY
The Taylor family cemetery is located on the north side of state route 640, .6 of a
mile west of the intersection with state route 94. The cemetery is located up a
gravel drive and is not clearly visible from the road.
This cemetery is located next to the Coleman cemetery, each enclosed in its
own fence.
TEDDER CEMETERY
The Tedder cemetery is located on the north side of state route 607
approximately 1 mile east of the intersection with U.S. route 52.
TEPLIN CEMETERY
The Teplin cemetery is located behind the Boxwood Inn Bed and Breakfast on
Main Street of Wytheville, between 5th and 7th Streets.
THOMAS CEMETERY
The Thomas family cemetery is located on a hill overlooking a field
approximately 1.5 miles east of state route 631 (Walton Furnace Road), at a
point approximately 1 mile south of state route 94. To reach this cemetery follow
state route 631 to the second hill; on the left side of the road there are two
trailers. Follow the road past the trailers to an old wooden farm gate. The
cemetery is located on the crest of a hill approximately .5 miles from the gate.
THOMAS CEMETERY 2
The Thomas family cemetery is located on a hill above the old abandoned
Thomas home. To reach this cemetery follow state route 631 (Walton Furnace
Road) south from state route 94 for approximately 2.5 miles to a gravel road on
the east side of the road designated as Cranberry Lane. Follow Cranberry Lane
for approximately .5 miles to a farm gate. After you pass this gate you will
proceed through a Christmas tree farm to a second farm gate. Follow the road
from this point for approximately .25 miles to the Thomas house. The cemetery is
located on a hill directly above the house.

TIPTON CEMETERY
The Tipton cemetery is located in a field almost directly behind the Boom
Furnace. To reach this cemetery, follow state route 608 east across the Pulaski
County line to the old Boom Furnace. Proceed into the field. The cemetery is
about .25 miles behind the furnace at the edge of the tree line.
TONCRAY CEMETERY
The Toncray cemetery is located on the south side frontage road which parallels
I-81 north. It is located on the edge of the road next to the Mark IV Honda
dealership.
TRIGG CEMETERY
The Trigg cemetery is located in Austinville on the north side of Route 619 about
half a mile west of the intersection of Routes 619 and 636. It is in a grove of trees
directly across the road from the historical marker about the lead mines.
UMBERGER CEMETERY
The Umberger Cemetery is located in a pasture on the eastern end of the Fisher
farm off State Route 642 near the Huddle Community.
VAUGHT CEMETERY
The Vaught cemetery is located in a grove on the west side of Cripple Creek on
State Route 749 approximately 0.1 mile south of the intersection of State Routes
749 and 614 in the Cedar Springs Community on a farm owned by G.E. Moore
in 1986.
VIARS CEMETERY
The Viars family cemetery is located off an unnumbered gravel road
approximately .5 miles north of state route 621.
To reach this cemetery follow state route 608 to the fork in the road with state
route 621. Turn left onto route 621, and follow this road to the top of the hill. At
this point, turn left onto the unnumbered gravel road. Follow this road for
approximately .5 miles to a white house which is located in a curve where the
road bears to the right. The cemetery is located behind the house.
WALTERS CEMETERY
The Walters cemetery is located in a field behind the home of Wilson Alley on
Holly Lane in Ivanhoe. To reach this cemetery follow state route 94 to state route
764 (Shady River Drive). Follow this road under the New River Trail bridge to Holly
Lane. The cemetery is approximately 800 yards from this intersection, on the left
side of the road.

WALTERS CEMETERY 2
The Michael Walters cemetery is located in a wooded area, very near Pine
Ridge. To reach this cemetery, follow Glade Road (State Route 664) to Walters
Road (State Route 662). Proceed on Walters Road to end of the road at a farm
gate. Proceed into the field to a second gate. Proceed south to an electric
fence line. Approximately 400 yards from the fence you will see an irrigation
pond. The cemetery is just beyond the pond in a wooded area.
WALTON CEMETERY
The George Walton cemetery is located on a hill above state route 630
approximately .25 miles west of the intersection with U.S. route 52.
WARD CEMETERY
The Ward family cemetery is located in a wooded area on the west side of state
route 772, just before you reach the Carroll/Wythe county line.
WARD CEMETERY 2
The Ward cemetery, also referred to as Black Lick cemetery is located in a field
approximately .5 miles east of state route 680.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 680 north from I-81 for approximately
1.25 miles. At this point you will see an orange gate on the right hand side of the
road. Follow a straight route into the field to the top of the first rise. Once you
reach the top you can see the cemetery directly below you.
WARD CEMETERY 3
The Ward cemetery is located in a field at the end of Sheeptown Road south of
Austinville. To reach this cemetery, follow Loafers Rest Road south from Austinville
to Stoots Mountain Road. Turn left onto Stoots Mountain Road and proceed for
approximately one mile to the intersection with Sheeptown Road. Turn left onto
Sheeptown Road. Follow this road to the end of state maintenance. At this
point, you are at 516 Sheeptown Road. The cemetery is in the field just beyond
the parking area.
WARDEN CEMETERY
The Warden cemetery is located on the edge of a field near the home of
Beulah Spraker on the north side of state route 94 approximately .25 miles from
the intersection with state route 640.
This cemetery is located in thick underbrush.
WATSON CEMETERY
This cemetery is located behind the home owned (in 1983) by Graham Watson.
(Its name for the purposes of this listing is derived from that fact).
It is on the north side of Route 610 at a point 2.1 miles east of the junction of
Routes 1004 (which soon joins 610) and 121 in the center of Max Meadows.

WATTS CEMETERY
The Watts cemetery is located behind a barn on the west side of state route 631
approximately .25 miles south of the intersection of state routes 631 (Walton
Furnace Road) and 630 (Sanders Mines Road).
WHALEN FAMILY CEMETERY
The Whalen family cemetery is located on the west side of Random Road in the
Speedwell Community. To reach this cemetery, follow Cedar Springs Road west
from Speedwell to Dry Road. Follow Dry Road for approximately .75 miles to
Random Road. Follow Random Road (a gravel road) to first trailer. The cemetery
is on rise to the west of the trailer.
WHEELER CEMETERY
The Wheeler cemetery is located on a hill at the end of an unnumbered road
directly opposite state route 637, very near the Carroll County line.
To reach this cemetery, take state route 100 south to the intersection of routes
100 and 637, and turn left on an unnumbered gravel road. Follow this road past
the old High Rocks Mill to the dead end. The cemetery is located above the end
of the road and overlooks a limestone quarry.
WHITE CEMETERY
The White cemetery is located in a clearing about 75 yards west of the end of
state route 700, approximately 1.5 miles east of U.S. route 52.
WHITE CEMETERY 2
The White family cemetery is located in a wooded area off state route 745, near
Ivanhoe. To reach this cemetery follow state route 644 west to state route 745.
Before reaching Mount Caramel Church, look for a narrow rutted road on the
left. Follow this road to a blue house. This cemetery is located in a wooded area
to the left of the house. This cemetery is surrounded by trees and underbrush.
WHITETOP CEMETERY
The Whitetop cemetery is located on the west side of state route 636
approximately .75 miles south of the intersection with state route 69.
The cemetery is not visible from the road. Approximately .2 of a mile from the
Carroll County line a dirt road leads into the woods. This is the road needs to be
followed to the front section of the cemetery. A few sections of this cemetery
are clear, but the majority of the graves is in the woods and covered by thick
vegetation.
WILLIAMS CEMETERY
The Williams cemetery is located on the north side of state route 741,
approximately .3 miles from the intersection with state route 94. The cemetery is
directly across the road from the Red Bluff A.M.E. Church cemetery.

The Williams cemetery is located in the woods on the east side of state route 730
approximately .10 of a mile from the intersection with state route 94 in Ivanhoe.
The cemetery is located behind the home of Tommy Dalton.
WILLIAMS CEMETERY 3
The Williams cemetery is located on the Ewing (Pud) Blair farm on the west side
of state route 631 approximately 2 miles south of state route 94.
To reach this cemetery, follow state route 631 to the home of Ewing Blair, a large
white farm house on the west side of the road.
Follow the farm road past the house into the field. You will need to go through
two farm gates in the field to a clump of trees on the edge of the woods. At this
point you can see the cemetery.
WILLS CEMETERY
The Wills cemetery is located on a hill at the terminus of High Rock Road. To
reach this cemetery, follow High Rock Road from state route 100. This road ends
at a large white frame house. From the house proceed up the hill to the
cemetery. When you reach the cemetery, you will be able to see both the
quarry and the bridge on the route 100 that crosses Little Reed Island Creek. This
cemetery is very near the Wheeler cemetery.
WILSON CEMETERY
The Wilson cemetery is located approximately 300 feet south of a cemetery
identified as Danner 1. This cemetery is located in a field on the south side of
state route 632 approximately .5 miles from the intersection with state route 634,
and 1.1 miles east of the intersection with state route 736.
WRIGHT CEMETERY
The Wright cemetery is located in a field south of the terminus of state route 768
(Guava Lane). To reach this cemetery, follow state route 642 (Pope Road) to
Guava Lane. At the end of the state maintained road, turn left at a farm gate.
Follow this farm road to a wooden gate on the south side of the road. Go
through the gate and into the field. Head south into the field for approximately
.25 miles to another farm gate. Proceed through the gate to the next field. This
cemetery is approximately .25 miles from this gate.
