THE LAND GIRLS
Who were the land girls?
• They are girls that did all the farming work in world war 2.
Why did they do it?
• They did all the farming because all the men were fighting in the war.
What did they do?
• They looked after chickens and chicks and collected all the eggs.
• They milked the cows to get milk.• They grew vegetables like potatoes,
carrots, peas and beans
What else did they do?
• They looked after the pigs and made bacon and pork chops.
• They also looked after the lambs and sheep to make lamb chops.
What was it like?
• They got up very early.• They had to work in the rain and the snow!• They wore working clothes.• It was very hard work.
Summary
• The land girls worked hard so that everyone had enough to eat!
• The Land Girls were heroes as well!
