1. Main component of national EPI plans Routine immunization activities. Supplementary immunization activities.

2. Basic principles include:o Equipment:

Use of disposable / AD syringes. Proper collection of used syringes; “Safety Boxes” Proper disposal of used syringes; “Burning /

incineration”o Manpower:

Training of health workers.

1. Development of a regional toolbox including a curriculum and IEC material for training of health workers on injection safety.

2. Training of trainers in all Member States.

3. Training of peripheral health workers in all Member States.

4. Countries planning to conduct mass campaigns will conduct a survey of the safety of injection and prepare a special plan for insuring safety of injection.

5. Campaign evaluation should include a quantified assessment of injection safety.

6. Revised national plans on safety of routine and supplementary immunizations will be developed based on injection safety surveys.

7. All countries will document satisfactory injection safety in routine and supplementary immunization services.
