Statewide initiative in collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Provides employability skills training and paid work experience opportunities for customers with disabilities during the summer months when students are out of school

Customers have the opportunity to earn money, gain valuable work experience, and develop work readiness skills

Staff provided an overview of Summer Earn and Learn program and work experience activities

Parents attended with most customers

Customers completed required new hire paperwork to prepare for work experience

Orientations conducted on multiple days, times and locations to accommodate customers

VR staff referred 269 customers and 196 VR customers attended an orientation

WSNCT partnered with Collin College to offer a three (3) day Employability Skills Training workshop to provide work readiness activities.

June 6–8 and June 27-29, 2017 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Sessions were conducted at:

• Collin College (McKinney and Plano locations)

• Workforce Centers (Greenville, Denton, Weatherford, Stephenville, Waxahachie and Terrell)

Teamwork in the Workplace

Workplace Responsibility

Workplace Safety

Career Discovery

174 Students attended

Employability Skills Training

Greenville Workforce Center

Staff matched VR customers to participating employer worksites for a minimum of 5 weeks of work experience

Students received a wage of $8.00 an hour

Typical work week consisted of 20 hours/week with varied days, shifts and hours

Students were paid bi-weekly with reloadable debit cards

A total of 161 VR customers were placed for an average of 5.2 weeks worked.
