SPOTLIGHT ON…”BUTCH”
Many of us have heard of “Butch” but have never met him. Briefly, he is theperson behind the scenes who prints our newsletters, tickets, publications, etc.
He has done a wonderful job for WOIHJS for many years and deserves to berecognized.
“Butch” is really Alois Carl Neuhaus, who is the proprietor of ACN Graphics—a small graphics and printing company located in Wall Township. He has livedmost of his life on the Jersey Shore. He and his wife, Mary Grace, are very
involved with their seven children and eight grandchildren. He is active in civiccommunity affairs, supports the local arts and loves antiquing, American history, mysteries, and “heart-healthy” cooking and baking. In the early morning, you
can find him walking his dog, “Jersey Girl” on the Belmar beach or in the BelmarMarina.
He has pursued fine art for over 50 years. This interest has been rewarding andrelaxing. He is an accomplished artist who has used oils, acrylics, pastels andoil pastels, and colored ink. He is an award-winning plein air painter, showing
his work throughout Monmouth County. “Butch” is currently a member of theFreehold Art Society and Belmar Arts Council.
Now when you hear the name “Butch”, you will realize what a talented andinteresting person is doing our behind the scenes work! Thank you for all youdo for WOIHJS!
IRISH HISTORY by Kate Mulvey
In 1983 I went to Ireland with three girlfriends for holiday. Before we left we did
a lot of research on customs and places so we would be prepared when wearrived. We planned on staying in the West. One custom that existed back thenwas that in many small towns women were not to be seated at the bar but to sit
in the lounge or snug area. Recently, my Mom found a letter that I had writtenupon my return. "Mom and Dad, Well, everyone asks ‘How was Ireland?’ and I
just can't explain it. It is such a special place that just one trip touches you in away you can't imagine. I have been using the word magical in most of my
descriptions but I think lovely touch of madness sums it up. I know I took a partof it back with me and also left some part of me there". I have been luckyenough to return to Ireland with my parents and share some grand moments
with them. If you have not been to Ireland, I encourage you to go. Summerand fall make for lovely travelling. There are many people and agencies that runplanned tours with airfare, travel, food and castle tours included; but if you
are adventurous and brave, rent a car and go where the wind sends you!
