Big Block Chevrolet Engines are in the air…..
As the air becomes a bit crisp, it is time to begin planning the fall/winter projects for our rides. A friend of ours who works day in and day out in a big brown truck, delivering hot rod parts among numerous other items to some of you out there, picked up a nice ’79 Chevrolet C-10 last September from down south in Alabama. He’s been insuring that the sus-pension is up to his standards and is now dreaming of Big Block Chevrolet Engines. This big RAT motor could be replacing the tired 305 cubic inch en-gine that now inhabits the engine bay. His engine builder tells him that the big rat would be in the neighborhood of 350hp and 500 ft lbs of torque! This will be a nice addition to the power train of the C-10. The C-10 al-ready contains a 400 3 speed tranny and a 12 bolt rear out back.
He’ll just need a few other components to complete the package, like an upgraded radiator, a set of nice headers to allow the rat to breathe and a nice carb and intake combo to feed the rat a nice serving of fuel and air.
If things go well, he and I will be cruising in the rat powered C10 in the spring of 2016. More updates to follow. WMM

Top Notch Hamburgers has been a fixture in Austin since 1971. This was one of my favorite cruise-ins during my 7 years in Austin and still is a go to spot for our yearly visit during Lonestar Round Up weekend!
Top Notch features, live bands and a hot rod movie after dark. They also have some really good food! Check out some of our favorite rides from “after the Lonestar Round Up”!!!
Everything is certainly bigger in Texas! The blown hemi in this sweet lit-tle mint greet hot rod is proof! It was pure excitement to view his smokey burnout as he left Top Notch for the evening!!!!
6 www.wolfmotorsportsmagazine.com7
(top left) This sweet little Tri-5 pickup had a great stance and a set of grey 5 spokes to round out the package!
(bottom center) This was a truck of a different style and color. It was pavement scraping low, per-fect paint and chrome with a white top for contrast and a set of chrome reverse wheels wrapped in wide whites!!! Killer!!!
(top right) Check out this cool lit-tle roadster, with perfect patina and chrome wires. Austin, Texas just screams hot rods!!!! I’m going out on a limb here and state that the hot rod scene here would probably be number two in the nation just be-hind California!
If you disagree that’s fine, email me and tell me where you live and what the hot rod scene is like!!!!

Although Stret Rods are a little rare at Top Notch, they are certainly welcome!!! This one has mile deep black paint for you to enjoy!!
These two white beauties were parked up front just by the enterance to Top Notch. They were finished out quite nicely and let the onlookers know that there was something going on there that night!!!!
10 www.wolfmotorsportsmagazine.com11
While this color combination is certainly different for a Merc, you can tell that the fit and finish are second to none!!!
There is also nothing wrong with a mildly customized Bow Tie! I love the wheel and tire combination!!!
This cool ride is a prime example of what get’s my juices flowing when it comes to a mild customs.
Some folks don’t require glossy sheet metal. Nothing wrong with that at all, Suede has a huge presence around the Austin area!!

Here is a cool shot of Top Notch’s live music stage. There is at least one band sometimes two that plays during every Hot Rod Night, just before it gets dark. This night it was Don Leady and his Rockin’ Revue with special guest Jack Montesinos on guitar!!! What awsome talent in that young man and a great sounding band!!!! If you are in the Austin area at anytime throughout the summer, you must check out Hot Rod Nights at Top Notch!!!
16 www.wolfmotorsportsmagazine.com17
I don’t like the term “Rat Rod” for these hot rods, they are way too nice! This one has some cool patina and a blown 572 to help him get it down the road!! Wonder how long it take to smoke those wide whites to those awesome Artillary wheels?
How about a cool little traditional hot rod? This one was parked across the street from Top Notch in “overflow” parking!!! Folks if your gonna attend this awesome event...you have to get there early!!!

Mercury Charlie’s Hot Rods n Honey’s is always a must do on Sun-day following The Lonestar Round Up! For 7 years now, Charlie has opened his shop, provided some cool beverages and some killer tunes while allowing everyone that attends a sneak peak at the inner workings and projects in the coolest hot rod & cus-tom shop in Austin, Texas.
As many of you know Charlie was in a really bad car accident late Friday April 17th. I woke up Saturday morning prior to day two of the Round Up to a text asking if knew about Charlie!! I didn’t know what was going on, I immedately called Roxy his daughter, luckily he was alive, the ‘56 Merc was totaled, but Charlie would be on a long, long road to recov-ery!! Needless to say the show on Saturday the 18th was a very somber venue for me!
Some of Charlie’s friends ran his booth at the Round Up on Saturday and kept Hot Rod’s & Honey’s going for everyone on Sunday while Char-lie begin his long road to recovery. Sunday’s Hot Rods & Honey’s turned into a benefit for Charlie to help cover his medical expenses and to keep his awesome new shop afloat until he was able to get back into the swing of things. Spoke to Charlie not too long ago, and he’s back in the shop (moving a bit slower) but he’s doing great!!! I also saw a recent photo of him and Nadine at Top Notch enjoying his evening with his friends.
Here are some cool photos of Charlie’s new shop and the cool cars and people who came out to support Charlie during this time of need. Glad you are doing well buddy!!!! See you soon!!!! WMM

Wide WhitewallsCruisin’ Cuisine!
We here at Wolf Motorsports Magazine would like to introduce you to
Wide Whitewalls - Cruisin’ Cuisine!!!
What is Wide Whitewalls Cruisin’ Cuisine you may ask? A: Wide Whitewalls - Cruisin’ Cuisine will be the newest section of the magazine that will highlight and introduce to you the best places to eat that this country has to offer.
What else will this section of the magazine contain? A: It will show photos of the restaurant(s) that are featured during that particular month. The restaurant will normally be pretty close to the car show that is covered for that particular issue.
When will Wide Whitewalls - Cruisin’ Cuisine begin? A: WWW-CC will begin with the 6th Anniversary - June issue of Wolf Motorsports Mag-azine!
Why is this section being added to a car magazine? A: The answer to this one is simple, when we are cruising all over the US to attend car shows, we have to eat! And, we’re not sure about you all, but we are al-ways looking for the best place close to the car show where we can chow down, either before, during, or after the car show! It’s that simple! My other hobby besides everything car related is everything FOOD related!!! So, we wanted to add something that we think you will find usefull and enjoyable in your travels!!!
We here at WMM would like to hear about your favorite places, to eat and would love to share photos of them. If you would like to share please email us at: contactus@wolfmotorsportsmagazine.comMay you enjoy the best flavor profiles on your automotive journeys!!

Bench RacingBench Racing is defined in several different ways. The urban dictionary defines Bench Racing as:
1. To discuss quarter mile elapsed time of a car based on a list of modifications or horsepower estimate.2. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications done to each engine.3. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications done to each engine.
While I do agree with the Urban Dictionary’s definition of Bench Racing, Bench Racing in the context of this section of the magaine will be defined as:1. Discussion of ANYTHING automobile related between at least two individuals with the goal of passing time at a car show, sharing automotive related ideas, opinions or entertaining themselves or others.
Please feel free to share your bench race session wtih the readers by emailing:benchracing@wolfmotorsportsmagazine.com
Let’s Bench Race!!! benchracing@wolfmotorsportsmagazine.com
This weekend some friends of mine attended the Cynthiana Rod Run in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Brenda had a booth set up to sell her homemade goat milk soap. Yes, they run a goat farm. He husband Darrin had a bit of time to go out to the show field and check out the 1300+ cars/trucks that showed up. He even sent me a photograph of some “Merc caps” as he knew I was looking for some. Darrin, being a contributor to the magazine, was out snapping some photos. He will evaluate them and submit them to me based on how they turned out. He and I held a nice bench racing session yesterday evening as he gave me a full report on the show and some of the cars that turned out. I’m just hoping that his photos turned out. We’ll keep an eye out on the ole’ email to check for good quality photos to use in an upcoming issue of the magazine. Thanks goes out to Darrin for attending the show, and giving me a full blown report on his findings. WMM
