WHY WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION?

• Reliable

• Efficient

• Low maintenance cost

• Can be used for short range or long range

SOLAR POWER SATELLITE (SPS)

SPS have proposed to collect solar energy in space and beam it down to the earth.

As there is no air in space the satellites would receive somewhat more intense sunlight,unaffected by weather.

Solar radiation can be more efficiently collected in space.

It is roughly three times stronger than on the surface of the earth and it can be collected 24 hours per day since there are no clouds or night in high earth orbit.

BASIC STEPS OF SPS

* •Capture solar energy in space and convert it to electricity.

* •Transform the electricity to radio frequency energy and transmit it to the earth.•Receive the radio frequency energy on earth and convert it back to the electricity.

* •Provide the electricity to the utility grid.

HOW SPS WORKS?

ADVANTAGES

• Unlimited energy resource

• Zero fuel cost

• Zero CO2 emission

• Solar radiation can be more efficiently collected

• Energy delivered anywhere in the world

DISADVANTAGES

• Require a network of hundreads of satellites

• Possible health hazards

• Launching cost is highly expensive

• Geosynchronous satellites would take a large sections of interference with communication satellites.

CONCLUSION

• SPS is still more expensive than ground base solar power and other energy resources.yet even now,a small sps system can be economically justified to provide unavailable emergency power for natural disaster situations,urban blackouts etc.

• For wireless power transmission using SPS to become reality we require,

• Government support

• Cheaper launch price

• Private involvement.
