The salt mine

History of TownWieliczka is a town in Poland in the Cracow metropolitan area. Wieliczka is a small town. About 22 000 people lives in this city.The town was founded in 1290 by duke Przemysław II.

The biggest attraction The biggest attraction in Wieliczka is the salt mine. One of the world's oldest operating salt mine , which has been in operation since prehistoric times. Now mine is visiting only for sightseeing. Mine has underground corridors with 2 thousand chambers and Crystal Caves.

Underground tourist trail Underground tourist trail was made in XVII century. About a million tourists a year visit about 3 km route consisting of 20 chambers.

Mikołaj Kopernik chamber One of the famous chamber is Mikołaj Kopernik Chamber.The chamber was founded before the year 1785. In this chamber is located the salt sculpture showing Mikołaj Kopernik.

Museum of Cracow salt minesThe museum of Cracow salt mines is one of the biggest mining museums of Europe The museum was made by Alfons Długosz, of the artist and the professor.

Saint Kinga ChapelIn the ST Kinga Chapel there are ST Kinga relics. This temple is the largest underground temple in the world!
