Midway in the drought, God sent Elijah
to Zarephath to live with a widow and
her son who were starving.
When he arrived he asked her for
some water and a cake of bread.
1 Kings 17 14 For thus saith the LORD God of
Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither
shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the
LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
3
15 And she went and did according to the saying of
Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat
many days. 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not,
neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the
Word of the LORD, which He spake by Elijah.
Elijah spoke the words, but he was God’s prophet.
She went and did as God said do.
That is the key to all blessing
from the Lord.
4
God will do what He says, when we do as He says.
Psalm 1 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of
sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But
his delight is in the Law of the LORD; and in His
Law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall
be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall
prosper. Promise from GodAll we have to do is obey God’s Word.
5
1 Peter 2 24 Who His Own Self bare our sins in His
Own Body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,
should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes
ye were healed.
Philippians 4 19 But my God shall supply all your
need according to his riches in glory by Christ
Jesus.
John 3 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Three Promises!
6
Willingly obey every Word of God.
Isaiah 1 19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall
eat the good of the land:
Not reluctantly obedient.
Not resentfully obedient.
Not resistingly obedient.
Willingly obedient.
7
Hebrews 10 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our
faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that
promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to
provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as
the manner of some is; but exhorting (encouraging)
one another: and so much the more, as ye see the
day approaching.
There is nothing difficult about that.
Just make up your mind.
God says to be faithful to church.

Colossians 3 12-15 Put on therefore, as the elect of
God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kind-
ness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-
suffering; 13 Forbearing (bearing with) one another,
and forgiving one another, if any man have a
quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so
also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on
charity (agape), which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the Peace of God rule in your hearts, to
the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye
thankful.
9
God’s children must become merciful people;
Quick to forgive, and gentle in doing so.
We must learn to patiently wait on God,
and to be patient with one another.
We must bear with one another.
And we must love one another with agape.1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
10
We must let the peace of God rule in our hearts.
Don’t let anger or fear or doubt rule; let peace rule.
That requires faith and faithfulness.
And finally, we must be
always thankful.
Thank God in
every situation.Willing
11
God said we must put on charity.
1 Corinthians 13 4 Charity suffereth long, and is
kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not
itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself
unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily
provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in
iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all
things, believeth all things, hopeth all things,
endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: …
Agape -- the highest form of love.
12
1 Timothy 6 6-8 But godliness with contentment is
great gain. For we brought nothing into this world,
and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And
having food and raiment let us be therewith
content.
We live in a culture where to be content with a
little is considered to be undesirable.
Philippians 4 11 Not that I speak in respect of want:
for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am,
therewith to be content.
13
1 Tim 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation
and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,
which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the
love of money is the root of all evil: which while some
coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and
pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
To be unwilling to be content with God’s Provision
will lead to bad decisions and many sorrows.
14
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and
follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith,
lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also
called, and hast professed a good profession before
many witnesses.
We find what God said we should do in His Word.
Let us do as He says.
15
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the
son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell
sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was
no breath left in him. 18 And she said unto Elijah,
What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God?
art thou come unto me to call my sin to remem-
brance, and to slay my son?
The widow’s son got sick and died.
She blamed the preacher.
Elijah is living with the widow of Zarephath.
16
19 And he said unto her,
Give me thy son. And he
took him out of her
bosom, and carried him
up into a loft, where he
abode, and laid him upon
his own bed.
17
20 And he cried unto the
LORD, and said, O LORD
my God, hast Thou also
brought evil upon the
widow with whom I
sojourn, by slaying her son?
18
21 And he stretched
himself upon the child
three times, and cried unto
the LORD, and said, O
LORD my God, I pray
thee, let this child's soul
come into him again. 22 And the LORD heard
the voice of Elijah; and
the soul of the child came
into him again, and he
revived.
19
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down
out of the chamber into the house, and delivered
him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son
liveth. 24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by
this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the
Word of the LORD in thy mouth is Truth.
God had already used Elijah to save them from
starvation, but still she did not fully believe.
We must learn to fully trust
God in and for all things.
20
Trust God enough to
willingly obey Him.
