• Human– Deforestation

– Urbanisation

• Physical – Heavy rainfall

– Long periods of rainfall

– Snow Melting

– Relief

• Turn to p112 in your text book.

Why are there so many more floods now?

1. Climate Change– The world is warming and scientist are now

confident that the changes in weather are due to global warming.

2. Growing population. – We all need somewhere to live and more

recently more homes have been built in marginal areas near rivers.

– More and more impermeable surfaces as more ‘buildings’ develop. E.g. driveways
