Storm Ciara Update on Damage
Thank you to all parents and students for their patience over the past three days.
Storm Ciara caused significant damage to a school roof on Sunday 9th February.
The risk to students and staff was immediately assessed and as part of this, advice was taken from
specialist contractors.
The Headteacher had no option but to close the school to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Work started very early Monday morning and took three full days to get the school site safe and the
building watertight.
There will be further works undertaken at a later date in school holidays and we will keep you informed.
Thank you again for your patience and please be assured that a decision to close the school is never
taken lightly and is only ever taken for the safety of students and staff.

Mobile Phones
As you are no doubt aware, social media is an important part of our students’ lives and they use it daily
to keep in touch, arrange social events and to share information. Unfortunately, social media and the
use of technology has also become a significant component of many safeguarding issues across the
UK. This can involve the distribution of inappropriate images, cyber bullying and the sharing of violent or
disturbing content. As part of our drive to ensure the wellbeing of all our students, we implemented a
strict mobile phone policy that prohibits their use in school.
Unfortunately, we have recently seen a worrying increase in the use of social media relating to school,
which has led to some very distressing incidents involving our students. This has included sharing videos
recorded on mobile phones, and the creation of unsuitable group chats. In particular, Snapchat,
Instagram and Tik Tok have been commonly used to share worrying videos.
We will endeavour to investigate any incidents of this kind and where improper behaviour is identified,
sanctions will be set. Where a video has been created and/or shared with others a fixed term exclusion
will be applied. If a recipient of a video then chooses to forward it to others, a day in the Reflection
Room will be given. Repeated involvement in incidents of this type is likely to result in fixed term
exclusion.
Please monitor your child’s social media usage, and report any worrying activity to the relevant social
media platform. Please also remind your child that the use of mobile phones in school is not allowed.
Mobile phones should never be visible on the school site and should be switched off, stored in school
bags at all times during the school day. If seen, the mobile phone will be confiscated; parents will be
contacted and will be asked to collect it. All students who have a phone confiscated will be required to
attend a 90 minute Leadership detention on a Friday. We will continue to do all we can to safeguard our
students and protect their wellbeing.

Author of the week is C.S.Lewis
With the Half Term holidays approaching fast don’t forget to come into the library and borrow some
reads for the holiday.
This week’s author is C.S.Lewis (1898-1963). He was arguably one of the most influential writers of
his day.
He wrote over 30 books and probably his most distinguished and popular accomplishments include
The Chronicles of Narnia. To date the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies- why not
borrow one of his books and add to the number of people who read them over the years. We have
made sure we have plenty of copies but they are flying off the shelves quickly.
We do of course have many other books by different authors so you will be spoilt for choice.
Have a great but safe Half Term
