Welsh Baccalaureate – Year 10Who influences our lives?

What is the National Assembly for Wales?The National Assembly for Wales is made up of 60 Assembly Members from across Wales. They are elected by the people of Wales to represent them and their communities, make laws for Wales and to ensure the Welsh Government is doing its job properly.

Unit 01 – What are young people’s views about

politics?

Who influences our lives?

Aims:

To understand who has influence on our lives and how do different people

affect our lives.

Resources:

Resource 01:‘Famous people’ cards.

Resource 02:‘Thinking pyramid’ worksheets.

Task 01:

You will need to split the class into groups.

Share the ‘Famous People’ cards out amongst the groups. One set of cards

for each group.

Once you have done this, ask the students to explain who of all the people

on the cards is the most influential and who is the least influential.

Note on the ‘thinking pyramid’ worksheet – the least influential on the

bottom and the most influential on the top.

Resource 03: Spiderchart worksheet.

Task 02:

From the previous task we have two groups of people, the politicians and

the famous people.

Of these people, who can they vote for?

For whom else can they vote? eg. School councillors

Class discussion – Class to think about their own lives and who influences

them the most.

Individuals to note answers on the spider chart worksheet – they can work

on their own or in pairs.

Note who is the most influential and ask them to expand on this by noting

why they are influential, what the person’s special features are and how

these contribute to the fact that they influence their lives?
