Welcome to the PTF Quarterly Newsletter
We hope you enjoy the Seventeenth issue of the PTF
Quarterly Newsletter. Founded in 1967 to help grow
the sport of polo with an emphasis on youth, the PTF
continues this mission through its many projects.
Polo Party & Awards Ceremony
Sponsored by the law firm Adams & Reese, the PTF and
USPA teamed up to present awards Friday April 20 at a
banquet at IPC that also doubled as a silent and live
auction fund raiser for the PTF.
PTF presented their Florida Junior and Young Player Polo
awards as follows: PTF Junior Sportsmanship: Giuliana
Bautista and Jack Whitman; PTF Junior Most Improved:
Ava Rose Hinkson and Finn Secunda; PTF Young Player
Sportsmanship: Justin Eckbo Daniels and PTF Young
Player Most Improved: Cipriano Echezarreta. All the
young players gave heartfelt thank you speeches
enthusiastically received by the audience.
PTF Chairman Dick Riemenschneider, PTF President Tony Coppola, PTF
Secretary Melissa Ganzi, Giuliana Battista, Jack Whitman, Finn Secunda,
Ava Rose Hinkson, Justin Eckbo Daniels and Cipriano Echezarreta.
PTF also presented Ginny and Steve Orthwein, Sr. the
PTF Distinguished Benefactor award for their 30+ years
of dedicated service to the PTF. The USPA also awarded
Steve Orthwein, Sr. the prestigious Hugo Dalmar award.
Steve is the only person to have won this award twice.
Ginny gave a wonderful speech thanking both
organizations for all the support the family has received
and how important polo has been to the Orthwein family.
The fund raiser was extremely successful with a sold out
crowd of 300 attendees, and grossed over $125,000. This
year on line bidding was introduced to the silent auction
and it was open 10 days before the event. This allowed
polo enthusiasts from the entire world to bid on items they
desired. It was quite successful and should be even better
next year.
Stevie Orthwein Jr., Ginny Orthwein, USPA Chairman Chip Champbell
and USPA CEO Bobby Puetz.
The PTF would like to thank the USPA for joining us in
this event and to Adams and Reese for being a title
sponsor. We would also like to thank all our donors that
made this so successful and we would especially like to
thank our event committee for their tireless help making
this a wonderful event

Fun PTF Tournaments
Due to the popularity of the PTF 50th Anniversary Family
Tournaments in 2017, the PTF is continuing to offer these
tournaments in 2018. Each team must be comprised of at least
two related players. Handicap levels are to be determined by
the host club. PTF provides trophies for the winning team and
hats for all the participants. In addition to the club entry fee,
each player must make a donation to the PTF (suggested $100
- $200 per player).

Yunghanns Charity Challenge
Twelve up and coming polo players took to the field on Monday
March 26th at the beautiful International Polo Club to battle for
the Polo Training Foundation’s Yunghanns Charity Challenge.
Justin Daniels first chukker horse was named the Purina Best
Playing Pony, while Clark Mayer was awarded the
Sportsmanship award, and Juanse Olivera won MVP.
Peter Yughanns, a graduate of the PTF Florida Junior Program,
challenged all the players to make a difference in their
community by raising funds for a charity of their choice.
“From the Yunghanns Charity Challenge, Horses Give Hope
Education Foundation is challenging all of the young polo
players to raise funds for charities. Our aim is to encourage
social awareness and charitable responsibility.
Peter Yunghanns presenting to the Yunghann Charity Challenge Players.
Yunghanns is the founder of the Horses Give Hope Education
Foundation and believes that “charity is the heart or conscience
which gives a benefit void of clear reward or obligation.”
As always, these games are not possible without the endless
support of our sponsors and volunteers. Thank you to IPC, Gus
Whitelaw, Cale Newman, Perry Palmer, Mario Chiara and to
our sponsors: Purina, GJ Racing, HGHEF, and Yaloak Polo
