Classwork

Classwork is expected to be completed neatly and should reflect your child’s best understanding of a particular concept.

We believe that students should work at their own pace, but we do expect students to finish their classwork at school.

HomeworkYour child will write their homework

assignments in their agenda book each day. If assignments are not completed the night they are assigned, they will be finished during Study Hall or “working lunch” the following day.

Homework assignments are for reinforcing skills and will be graded. However, the grade is for you to see how well your child understood the concept, not to go into the grade book. We expect all homework to be completed. The exception to this rule would be classwork that is incomplete and becomes homework.

If homework takes your child more than 50 minutes to complete, please let us know.

Changes this year…• Our AKS is new – it matches the

national “Common Core Curriculum”• The CRCT has changed – it is a hybrid

between the old CRCT and the new PARCC (next year it will only be the PARCC).

• Persuasive writing is now “Opinion Writing”

Your child will bring home weekly papers in their Friday Folder each Friday. Please check your child’s Friday Folder for the following:

Please send a written excuse with your child on the day that he/she returns to school.

Please remember that if a student will be absent for a few days, a list of make-up assignments will be available when your child returns.

Snacks, water, and restroom breaks

Birthday TreatsIf you would like to bring in a special

snack for your child’s birthday, it needs to be served in the cafeteria during our lunch time. You may pass it out after our 10 minutes of silence is over.

If you send in invitations to be passed out, you must include everyone in the class. If you are not inviting everyone in the class, the invitations must be mailed or given out outside of school hours.

Book Orders

During the year we order books from clubs which provide good literature at affordable prices. If you choose to order books, please write your check to the club from which you are ordering. If you would rather, you may send in cash and we will send the book club a check.

TransportationIf your child is going to ride a

different bus home, we will need a signed note from you stating the following:

• What bus your child normally rides• Who your child is riding home with• A phone number where you can be reached.

We cannot accept transportation changes through email or

phone call.
