Curriculum

• Eureka Math- hands-on work with worksheets that is aligned to Common Core standards.

Very similar to Engage New York In Kindergarten the focus is on number

recognition, the meaning of numbers, one-to-one correspondence, identifying shapes, kinders will be adding and subtracting….

Houghton Mifflin and Orton Gillingham • Letter recognition, phonemic awareness,

decoding strategies, sight word recognition • Houghton Mifflin is delivered in small groups

with leveled reading books • Orton Gillingham phonics is whole group

Zoophonics • This is a supplementary program that

connects animals to each letter of the alphabet. Each letter has a whole body movement to reinforce the sound.

Homework

• Homework will be sent home every Monday in a folder.

• Every week your child will have a reading log, and math

• In addition you will have a monthly calendar homework page

• I do check their homework!

Homework continued

• The homework folder and envelope should be returned on the following Friday.

• In addition please read, read, read to your child. There is a weekly reading log. Take every opportunity to point out print! At breakfast, at the store, driving…..

Cooking Center

• Every Friday we will have a cooking center! We need parents to sign up to bring the ingredients for that week. I will let you know as soon as I plan what ingredients we will need!

Personality Bag

• Every Thursday the Personality Bag will go home with one child. They are to fill it with items that tell who they are. What is their favorite smell, color, food, etc.. They can bring a favorite toy but please do not fill it all with toys.

The bag is then shared the following Thursday.

Sammy’s Bag

• Also on Thursday’s we will pick a student to take home Sammy our reading buddy.

Sammy comes with a few books, bag, journal and instructions!

Field Trips

• We will have at least one field trip to the Pumpkin Patch and chaperones will definitely be welcomed! The date is still unknown.

• No siblings

Birthdays

• I would love to celebrate your child’s birthday. Spring Grove’s rule is to celebrate once a

month on a designated day. I will let you know in my newsletter who is having a birthday that month and when the date is.

Clothing

• Please send an extra set of clothing to school, labeled and in a baggie (don’t forget the socks)!

Label everything!!

Specials

• We have Computers once a week on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:00.

• We will have reading buddies but that is still to be determined

• On Mondays we have I Care Cat • We sing with all the Kinders and TK’s Fridays at

1:30 • We have the Guessing Jar every Friday during

Important Dates

• Kindergarten Fall Festival meeting is in room 24 (Mrs. Painter’s classroom) on September 24th at 2:20

• Picture Day is September 11 • Fall Festival is on October 25th from 4-7pm • Parent-Teacher conferences are on September

30 – October 3 (Minimum days) • No school on October 4th (teacher work day)

• First day of the week I will send home a newsletter
