What is Evangelism?

T

To Evangelize

Announce or proclaim Good News!

Gospel = Good News

The Gospel

(a) It is the Gospel of the Kingdom

The GospelMatthew 4:23a

Jesus traveled throughout Galilee teaching in the synagogues,

preaching everywhere the Good News about the Kingdom.

The Gospel

(a) It is the Gospel of the Kingdom

(b) It is the Gospel of God

The Gospel

Mark 1:14

Later on, after John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to Galilee

to preach God's Good News.

The Gospel

(i) The Good News about God...

(ii) The Good News from God...

The Gospel

(c) It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Gospel

Mark 1:1

Here begins the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.

The Gospel

(i) Not only did Jesus bring...

(ii) He also embodied it.

The GospelJohn 14:9

Jesus replied, "Philip, don't you even yet know who I am, even after all the time I have been with you? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why

are you asking to see him?

The Gospel

(d) It is a Gospel for all nations.

The Gospel

Mark 13:10

And the Good News must first be preached to every nation.

The Gospel

(e) It is a Gospel that must be personally received.

The GospelI Corinthians 15:1-2

Now let me remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good

News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then and still do now, for your faith is built on this wonderful

message.

The Gospel

And it is this Good News that saves you if you firmly believe it -

unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in

the first place.

The Gospel

John 1:12But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave

the right to become children of God.

The Gospel

Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of this

Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving

everyone who believes - Jews first and also Gentiles.

The Gospel

Why is a personal response to the Gospel necessary?

The Gospel Romans 3:12

All have turned away from God; all have gone wrong. No one does good, not even one.

Romans 3:23For all have sinned; all fall short of God's

glorious standard.

The Gospel

Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our

Lord.

The Gospel Romans 10:13-14

"Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (14) But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him

unless someone tells them?

To Proclaim

To Proclaim

John 15:18Jesus said, "When the world hates you,

remember it hated me before it hated you.”

I John 3:13So don't be surprised, dear brothers and

sisters, if the world hates you.

To Proclaim Acts 5:40b-42

"They called in the apostles and had them flogged. Then they ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and they let

them go.

To Proclaim

(41) The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer

dishonor for the name of Jesus.

To Proclaim

(42) And every day, in the Temple and in their homes, they continued to teach and preach

this message: "The Messiah you are looking for is Jesus." .

The Message/Proclamation

I Corinthians 2:4And my message and my preaching were very plain.

I did not use wise and persuasive speeches, but the

Holy Spirit was powerful among you.

The Message/Proclamation

(A) Commission

(C) Gospel Formula

(B) Declaring

The Message/Proclamation

2 Corinthians 4:5a“We don't go around preaching about

ourselves; we preach Christ Jesus, the Lord.”

The Message/Proclamation

I Corinthians 15:3-6I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been

passed on to me-that Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.

The Message/Proclamation

(4) He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the

Scriptures said.

(5) He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles.

The Message/Proclamation

(6) After that, he was seen by more than five hundred of his followers at

one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died by now.

The Message/Proclamation

Definition: Effective evangelism is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the

Results up to God.
