WHAT IS A WEBCAM?

Simply put: a camera used on the

World Wide Web.

Most new tablets, netbooks and

notebook (laptop) computers have a

web cam and microphone built-in.

For desktop computers, you can

purchase a separate webcam like

the one pictured on this slide.

A webcam can be used to:1) Take single pictures of the person in front of it.

2) Take video of the person in front of it.

3) Work with communication software such as

Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live

Messenger, AIM.

A webcam can be used to:4) See who’s at the front door.

5) Keeping an eye on the baby (or babysitter).

6) Security – checking your house when you’re

away.

webcam?

Most of us our visual. A webcam adds “life” to

conversations and, perhaps, allows us to see people

we care about but who live a great distance.

webcams?Yes! Webcams now come in HD (High Definition)

Pixel size is important as is frames per second

(30fps)

Those webcams with glass lens (rather than plastic)

give a better image
