THE CONVOCATIONThe 2018 Founders day Convocation

Today on Thursday 22nd, 2018 North Carolina A&T State University Celebrated Founders Day. They celebrated by having their 2018 Founders Day Convocation.

The event was held on campus in the Harrison Auditorium. The celebration was in commemoration of the one hundred twenty-seventh year of the university. The program included a prelude, processional, posting of the mace, presentation of the colors and the national anthem. As well as a musical selection, occasion, greetings, introduction of speaker, Founders day address, moment of reflection, alumni achievement awards, alma mater, retiring colors, recessional, and postlude.

Dr. Tonya Smith Jackson was the speaker of the convocation. She is currently a program director at the national science foundation. Her speech was very inspiring and full of pride. She said a quote that went like this, “Aggies do, Aggies lead, and Aggies achieve, Aggie pride”.

A portion of the convocation acknowledged the alumni achievement award recipients. Dr. Craig A. Fletcher was the first graduate of NC A&T’s animal science program to acquire Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Marvin H. Watkins was another alumni achievement awards recipient and he is co-founder of The National Sponsored Programs Administrators Alliance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Inc. There was also plenty more recipients.

North Carolina A&T State University is an 1890 land grant institution. A&T is currently ranked a s a doctoral higher research activity university. The convocation today was to not only celebrate the one hundred twenty-seventh year of the university, but it was also to encourage faculty, staff, and students to keep striving and helping the community and university grow academically and in research.
