Born in Nelson, New Zealand 1969, Charles Olsen moved to England in 1981. He completed his BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Middlesex University, London, in 1994. He has exhibited widely including the Saatchi Gallery in London and galleries in Paris, Madrid, and Wellington. In 2007 he won second prize in the first ever Saatchi Showdown with his painting ‘La Sundari’.
This book is a facsimile of one of the artist́s early handmade sketchbooks. The watercolours are all painted directly into the book with no editing out. Here they are mostly painted in pairs and often related to large oil paintings he was working on at the time.
