Welcome!

MissionHabitat works in partnership with God and people everywhere to build and renovate houses, so there are decent houses in which people can live and grow into all that God intended.

VisionHabitat for Humanity Island County’s goal is to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness and to make affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action throughout Island County.

History - HFHI• Carter Work Project

• Founded in 1976 by Linda & Millard Fuller in Americus, Georgia

• Built more than 350,000 houses, sheltering more than 1.75 million people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide

• Habitat is present in over 90 countries and all 50 states

Local History

• Marlene and Vic Jones began HFHIC in 1998

• 27 homes completed

• 21 homes abroad

• 60 family members and over 32 children have been served

Need in Island County

• Mortgage payment is typically under $500 compared to $1,400

• We serve 25-50% of median income

– Income between $15,000-45,000

– Depends on family size

– Average income currently served is $20,150

Family Selection

• Need - Inadequate housing and/or 50% of income

• Willingness to Partner - 500 hours “Sweat Equity” and Homeowner classes

• Ability to Repay - Steady source of income & Credit History

Simple - Modestly-sized for the family needs

Decent - Quality, Sustainable building practices

Affordable - Labor from volunteers, family sponsors,

modest house size, and non-profit loans
